The Gem of Northumberland

We've stayed at Old Hartley lots of times during the past decade, twice this year, and only wish that it remained open all year, as we would return a few more times. This is a site where there is no need to go very far for a day out, as the site position is perfect for relaxation with it's panoramic views of the sea and coastline very hard to beat. The imediate area has all you could ever wish for. Some of the best beaches in the Britain. Plenty of choice of where to eat and drink, plus one of the best chippies we've ever experienced. We'll be back next year.

helpful warden

fantastic site brilliant views warden could not do enough when I found flat battery on car, every thing kept clean and well maintained shower and toilet block spotless this coast line up to Berwick is spectacular,bamburgh castle beach is one of the best. best regards keith fletcher nottinghamshire

Don't Forget Your Chocks:

Lovely views from virtually all pitches due to the sloping site, however - this means you'll need to take your chocks and levellers. Great walking from the site, sandy beaches just a couple of miles down the road and easy access to shopping and takeaways... Just watch out for the speed trap van lurking for the unwary. Highly recommend a visit to Cragside.

Splendid Location

Stunning views, lived up to the handbook's claims. Toilet facilities on the tight side but otherwise immaculate. No facilities for children. Some enjoyable offeroad cycling. Highly recommended.

Great for events in Newcastle

This was our second stay at Old Hartley. This time it was as a base for us to attend two Rugby World Cup games at St. James Park, Newcastle. We were surrounded by avid New Zealand & Scottish supporters in their hired motorhomes, which was fun! The site does feel a bit cramped at times but the general slope means that most people will get some sort of coastal view. Again the wardens were most helpful and, even though they were the “relief” wardens, they were still knowledgeable about the area. All the facilities were what you would expect of a Caravan Club “main” site. The local bus service was as efficient as before and Haymarket in the city centre was reached in under an hour. There are two providers and, if buying a day return, you must use the same one. i.e. the tickets aren’t interchangeable between bus companies. When we previously visited we didn’t realise that the NCN 1 cycle route ran right past the site entrance. This then gives access to a mainly traffic free route northwards towards Blyth in amongst the dunes and Whitley Bay & beyond to the south.

One of the Best

We initially only booked this site because we were going to Newcastle for the World Cup Rugby and it was handy for public transport. But we were absolutely stunned by the awesome views, the lovely coastal walks and the friendliness of not only the wardens but also everyone we met during our stay on and off the site. One of the best sites we have ever been on. Can thoroughly recommend it and hopefully we will be back.

One of the best

There is nothing we can fault about this site. Once you have set up just enjoy the views, it's one the best sites we have used, the wardens keep it spotless and are very pleasant and helpful, we are going to be going lots times to this very special site.

Our first visit

A lovely site, the facilities are very good and clean, the wardens were helpful and we had a good time. Easy to catch the bus into Newcastle and to the NT Seaton Deleval Hall. The pitches were a bit small and most were on the sloping side, however the views made up for all this. Would come again.

September stay

Lovely site with fantastic views. Wardens very helpful and friendly. Pitch can be small and level blocks needed on our pitch. Did appreciate the heating on in the toilet block. Beach either side of the site and higher up the coast wonderful. We will be back.

Touring Scotland,stopover on the way home

As ever a very clean,ordered caravan club site with the facilities you would expect of the caravan club Great views out to the lighthouse and pleasant wardens,my only niggle,and a very small niggle, Was we arrived without booking as we had toured Scotland and where looking for an overnight before heading home, The warden was very helpful but said we could not pick which pitch we wanted as we had not pre booked,and wasn't fair to other members As a member for a couple of years I was of the understanding all club sites are first come first served,(and have had some not so great pitches in the past as a result,pre-booked) We ended up with a good pitch but imho I think once there you should be able to pitch wherever you like. Don't let this put you off though,just an observation
