Great place to visit Newcastle area

We have stayed on this site a number of times and have always found it clean and tidy, wardens fantastic and really help full. The site has some steep slopes in places, however the sea views and view of St Marys lighthouse is worth it. Easy access to local attractions as well as Newcastle makes this a great place to visit. We were there out of school holidays when I imagine it will be busier. We loved it!

annual autumn break

We have been staying here for approximately 10 years and every time we are blown away by the views. There is no shortage of things to do and places to visit within a short distance of the site, the coastal path is right outside the site and you can walk for miles in both directions. Public transport takes you into Newcastle and many more surrounding places of interest. This site is always immaculately kept and the flowers outside reception are a credit to the Wardens. During our stay the Tour of Britain cycling race passed within a mile of the site and the Annual Great North Run is within easy reach. It would be difficult to make any adverse comments about the site and the area, and we will return next year.

Wonderful site

What a wonderful 4 night stay we are having. The pitches are sloping but not a problem and the views are amazing out to sea and towards the lighthouse. Super meal at The Kings Arms. Did some lovely walks towards Tynemouth and up to Blyth. We will certainly be back. Thanks

Not the usual caravan club set up or lay out,a lot of the pitches are sloping so chocks are needed. We were here for the August Bank holiday and could only get in for one night, so it was very busy . I was surprised at how small the toilet and shower block was but was adequate but not to the usual caravan club standard. Enjoyable stay, fantastic views and will return.

A good view

Yes a good view, but so do many club sites! Access was easy, the instructions to go onto the cycle path are a bit perturbing but how else can it be described! There is not a width limit! The pitches are well marked and hard standing but some are quite tilted and you will certainly need ramps on some of them. The showers are small and not many, but we never had to queue. We were with a motor home but fortunately friends picked us up and many superb beaches and castles are within an easy drive. If you need to to keep up with supplies there are several supermarkets with parking passed on the approach to the site after leaving the A19.

A view like no other

We arrived at Old Hartley from the Caravan Club site in Edinburgh. The wardens were very welcoming and gave us a site map showing which pitches were vacant, which we found a brilliant idea. We sited ourselves at the bottom of the site, which was furthest from the toilet block, but gave a superb sea view. There is a public footpath outside the site close to where we were, but it was no bother for us. The bus stops to take you to Newcastle or Blyth is only about 400m from the site entrance. The local Fish and Chip shop is about 800m and has a restaurant as well as a takeaway counter. The Cod & Chips is freshly cooked and really good value for money. We had a walk from the site to the lighthouse about 1200m away (local parking available) and saw a few seals on the rocks. We would thoroughly recommend this site.

What a gem

Lovely small quirky site. All has been said before about the small showers, but hey what?! We had a pitch at the bottom overlooking the sea and lighthouse and yes it did overlook the public footpath used by dog walkers and joggers but we really enjoyed our 'site with a view'. Used our National Trust membership 3 times, thoroughly enjoying each day and my dream came true after seeing lots of puffins on a trip up the Farne Islands. Food at the pub next to the site and the one in the next village was excellent and very reasonably priced. We will certainly return. Thank you wardens.

A lazy uncomplicated week on the east coast

Arrived at the site and the site wardens were exceptionally helpful and positive and they certainly worked hard. We found the site layout easy and quickly got settled with great views over the north sea and the nearby light house from inside and outside the van. You could watch the many small boats and also the many planes which turned low just north of the site. We went in to Tyneside / North Shields where there were a variety of eating places / went to the Tyneside market - but go to a metro station and get the train in - much easier than trying to get a parking place. Down the footpath from the site is a path to the sandy beach and if you walk northwards on the coast for 20 mins you come to miles of open and very nice sandy beach. Plenty of scope for cycling / walking / sea fishing. We got to know quite a few folk on the site due to its nice layout. Really enjoyed the experience and one of those sites we will go back to. Never went into Newcastle / never went across the Tyne - never did lots of things as we really chilled out here. Some nice old pubs nearby - but we never used them this time as the weather was great to sit out.

Great views

Stayed with our 2 grandchildren for 2 nights in August. Scenery and weather great but there are no facilities for kids on site. No awnings are allowed so the nightly charge of £29.00 is a bit steep.

Only 30mins away for us so excellent 2 night weekend getaway. We know the area well but enjoy this coastline so much we never tire of it. Not sure why it has Whitley Bay as its address as its a few miles up the coast in Seaton Sluice, here there are a choice of pubs, best of which is the Kings Arms. Pub next to site (Delaval Arms) is a bit tired inside but people are always friendly and we had a nice lunch. Yes, the site does slope but its not too much of an issue and means that good views are available from most pitches. The only problems it caused me was when the wheels came off my wastemaster and I had to chase them down the site, sure it made those watching chuckle!
