Lovely peaceful site

This site is in the middle of the country side away from everywhere. The staff were lovely and the servicing facilities are fine, the site has well spaced pitches and an adjacent dog walk. Just be aware that if you want to go anywhere or get anything you will need to drive.

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC

What an amazing site. We only met Sue, the relief warden, what a lovely, friendly lady!!!! The site itself was so well laid out over three areas. We were in the furthest area over the little bridge. Beautiful!! Half the caravans backed onto a little stream. Would highly recommend!!! With regards to the other reviews that mention problems with dogs. Whilst we were staying there everyone had their dogs on leads, however, some sites you visit you do come across dogs that are loose.. Sadly some people don’t adhere to signage, even when it is stated clearly that dogs should stay on leads!! As a dog owner with a rescue dog that has got a lot of emotional issues due to having been previously attacked by a dog and severely beaten by his last owner, the last thing we want is a rogue dog, no matter how nice and well behaved the owner says it is, approach us. I think you will always get the odd loose dog regardless.

Good site

We enjoyed our stay at this site. Everywhere was well kept and the surroundings were very attractive. There is good spacing of vans and the layout with the different areas was good. There is a nice permitted path alongside the site for strolling or dog walking. The relief wardens Sue and Mick were really brilliant. They were so helpful and cheerful and couldn't have been better. Sue always had time for a good chat . Mick was always busy keeping everywhere in great order. It's a good day out to enjoy the coast from here. So not for you if that's what you want. But Craster and Beadnell are worth a visit. There are 2 excellent National Trust properties within a few miles. Wallington and Cragside are both a good day out with lots to see.Hadrian's wall and visitor centre at Housestead is an hour away but worth a visit. Rothbury is a lovely place with free parking and a riverside setting. The Rothbury family butchers do excellent sausages and pies. Squirrels and birds can be seen at the site. Only downside were the people with yapping dogs who spoilt the peace and quiet from time to time.

Really good site, but can sympathise with others' criticisms...

We enjoyed our week here, and were in a spacious part of the site, and the wardens seemed very efficient. Good location for some stunning walks, particularly the Simonside Hills, and two National Trust properties. But I can sympathise with the two reviewers who complained about loose dogs. Unfortunately a few years ago, the Club bosses in their ivory tower, ordered the wardens to remove the signage asking people to keep their dogs on leads, so as not to upset owners, and effectively left the wardens with one arm tied behind their back. You can't trust everyone to do the right thing, otherwise there would be no need for police...

Rest and relaxation.

First time visit to this site. Also new smaller van. The peace and quiet was just what i was seeking. Good spacing in the area where i was pitched. Will be back as this is a little gem of a site.

Out of the way

The welcome to the site was ok but only ok. The grass needed a good mow. Dogs allowed to run free off leads (not all), this isn't the staffs fault just inconsiderate members who have no regard for others. No proper facilities for motorhomes to empty waste. The site is a long way out and you do need a car to visit the sights. No walks around unless you got in your car first.

Back to basics but with some grumbles…

We’ve just returned from a couple of nights here. The weather was terrible but not unexpected and we were a little concerned about how boggy they ground was going to get (no hard standing so all grass/field and some pitches need a long drive over grass to access). Luckily when we left we had no problem getting the Motorhome off site. I can see that it could quickly become a problem following long wet spells so we’d probably avoid later in the year. There are no ‘facilities’ here but we don’t mind that and there is no drive over dump area for motor homes but they do provide a hose to connect to the grey tank outlet which worked well. Site in the middle of not very much which could be lovely and peaceful with lots of birds. There were a number of flies but as it’s near water and farmland can only be expected. Some dog owners however let the site down. There were quite a few dogs not kept on leads and allowed to roam among pitches and foul where they liked. Owners regularly walked their dogs along tree lined areas within the site. I can only assume that the ‘dog walk’ area was too inconvenient for them.

Peaceful site

We've stayed here twice this year. It's a lovely peaceful site that is well kept but on both occasions although the grass was cut it wasn't anywhere near short enough. The position of site is good although it's a good 20 miles drive to the coast. The countryside is beautiful but you do need to drive to walks. A car is essential to get around. Abit too much driving we found. The like this site as it has no toilet block and keeps the families away. Sometimes peace and quiet is all you need.

A good place to stay

We spent the last week of August at this site and I would agree with other reviewers that it is a good place to stay for visiting the loverly Northumberland countryside and attractions. The wardens were welcoming and the site was kept very clean. My only reservation is the lack of facilities. The lack of a toilet block etc would put off some member with younger families in my view. Also, given the fact that it is six miles from the nearest shop, I would have thought there might at least be some necessities available from reception, apart from toilet cleaner. The lack of WiFi was a bonus for me, but other, more connected members might not share my view!
