A fantastic week

We stayed for a week on the 11th of May, it was our first visit to the site and we had been allocated a pitch on the second row from the beach, giving an unspoiled view across the Loch. We were greeted by friendly staff on arrival and then guided to our pitch by the warden who was also very helpful. Being able to drive through the pitch from the back made setting up a doddle. The staff were kind enough to allow me to inspect a fault that had developed on my car on the way in the late arrivals bay. It saved me a trip to the garage and enabled me to rectify the fault. There are plenty of walks from site, up and down the disused railway line that runs through the site, around the nearby airfield and along the large beach which you walk straight onto. The site is clean but is large and spread out. The central ablutions and Elsan were very clean, though it is a fair walk if you are staying on one of the extremeties of the site. I would recommend anyone who is of limited mobility to request a pitch closer to these facilities. On the otherhand, bins, water and grey waste were all easily accessible from our pitch. The 10a supply was not an issue during our stay, the only time it tripped being down to a faulty appliance in someone elses outfit. There is a shop on site for the basics and a caravan and camping shop a short distance up the road in Benderloch. Oban is in the opposite direction and has several supermarkets and has all the facilities you would require from a trip to town. It is also a picturesque town and well worth a visit for the local attractions and tourist shops. The week we stayed at North Ledaig was also blessed with some fantastic weather which also contributed to a thouroughly enjoyable week. We will return.

First Trip - And It Was Memorable

For years my wife and I threatened to get a wee campervan and tour Scotland. Well, recently we got a van and set about doing what we'd threatened. As complete novices we decided to try a night away first - to try out the van and see what was what. We decided not to go too far from home and settled on Oban. My wife organised the booking and was extremely impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of the office staff. With the booking secured we headed up. Upon arrival I too was impressed with the office staff. Exceptionally hospitable and very, very welcoming. When we said this was our very first trip they changed our pitch to one down at the front, on the lochshore - the views were stunning. That wee touch alone meant alot to us. The facilities on-site are phenomenal. The toilet block is pristine. But the views!!! We went in to Oban which is barely 10 minutes along the road and enjoyed all the shopping and facilities it affords - I've been there umpteen times and it always pleases. Back to the site and we settled in for our first night in the van. All went well until around 5am when a beeping sound roused us from our comfortable slumber. Much moving and faffing about traced the noise to an inverter that was going mental. It turned out we were unknowingly draining the vehicle battery and would need a jump-start to get it going! We crawled back under the covers and caught up on our sleep and later on that morning I headed up to the office to seek help. En-route I met one of the rangers and explained my plight. Within minutes another ranger arrived with jump-leads and got us fired-up - with a wee explanation of how to set our switches correctly! As a first excursion it had everything. But, the overriding memory was the friendliness of the staff. Sure, the views are out of this world, but the people made it; and we'll always be grateful to them for making it so memorable.

Beach Views

Upon arrival, we were shown our pitch was situated on the beach and the views were stunning, The toilets and showers were good and very clean and the bus service to Oban which was outside the site was very efficient and value for money.

Disappointing

This campsite is a large, insecure and open commercial site with an area set aside for C&MC members. The prospect of the view is what initially attracted us but the site is bland and the view of sea and a distant island (Mull) soon is not enough. The bus service to Oban, with a stop outside the site is very good. We were disappointed to find the electrical supply is only 10 amps and that it cannot be re-set without the attendance of the warden between the hours of 8am to 8pm. Outside these hours you would go without. One therefore is always concerned about power usage which does not go with a relaxing stay. They also only take cash or Debit card payment. Neither of these issues are mentioned in their write ups, anywhere and we first learned about them when booking in on site. Given the tariffs I feel this site is poor value for money despite the location.

Stunning! Just stunning!

What a beautiful site in a beautiful part of the world. Great staff who couldn’t be more helpful, great layout for families with young kids, good flat area with plenty of grass for the kids to play. Has to be the best sure we have visited so far and we just can’t keep away.

DO NOT EXPECT CLUB STANDARDS!

This is a HUGE site with row upon row of empty caravans, many in a poor state - somewhat reminiscent of a large static site - it is very open and has good views. There is NO SECURITY BARRIER so anyone can access this site at any time of the day or night. Not for us thank you - we will stick to Official Club Sites...

very happy family

We stayed at this site over a weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. My wife is in a wheelchair and was really impressed with disabled facilities, the obvious thought and care that was put in to the design and build was second to none. we arrived after the office had closed and were shown to our plot by the very helpful steward, Garry. when I went to the office in the morning the ladies couldn't have been any friendlier and since it was my first time staying ta this site they were a great source of information about what there was in the local area to see and do. lastly the dog walk on site was fantastic, it runs for miles in either direction away from the park and has recently been upgraded to make it a tarmac path which was great for the wheelchair, throe in to this the more than adequate kids play park and lovely beach we had a great time and will definitely be using this site again.

Mature Couple

Helpful wardens and a stunning location, but very large, the site itself functional rather than attractive and very many unoccupied caravans and motor homes.

Very disappointing

We arrived at the site early in the morning knowing that we would have to wait until 12pm before being allowed on our pitch, we were 'greeted' by 2 wardens getting ready for opening the shop and reception, I say greeted, the actual words were "We're not open yet, have you booked?" We said we had and were told in no uncertain terms that we were too early, which we knew, and to go on the late arrival area. They did let us on our pitch earlier than we should have been after a lengthy discussion about our awning and annex, the annex inner tent had to be lifted every other day to protect the grass, which we did. We didn't think this site was up to normal CMC standards, the toilet blocks were clean but 2 toilet blocks for the amount of caravans and motorhomes that are on the site isn't enough. There are non members and caravan and camping club on the site as well as CMC. The play area wasn't very good at all, it was very rundown and could do with renovating. The location is good as it was easy to get to many of the places we wanted to visit. During our stay at 1.30am a car drove onto the site revving the engine and blowing the horn, we mentioned it to one of the wardens the next day and was told that it happens sometimes and they have reported it to the police but they dont do much if anything about it. This happened a couple of times while we were there and I think that one way to stop it would be to have barriers on the entrance/exit as most sites we've used previously have, also this would make the site more secure. We were also told that they have trouble with motorbikes driving along the beach. No mention of that in the handbook! Definitely not one of the best sites we've been on and if we want to go up to that area of Scotland again we won't be staying there.

Scottish tour

We have just spent 3 nights at North Ledaig. The views from this site are amazing! Whilst the facilities are dated they are well maintained and very clean. This is a very big site but worth the visit given its location. The bus service is great, we used the service on 2 days and provides easy access to Oban for shopping or ferries. The bus drivers are very helpful. We will most certainly make a return visit to this site.
