Stayed here overnight before we caught the ferry to Isle of Wight the facilities were immaculate and the warden were very friendly and helpful. The site was busy but was not noisy and did not feel cramped or packed in.
Just to begin, the images of the site are all out of date, the lovely grass areas shown have now been converted at huge expense to hard standings. Apparently spent £5 million on the site but not yet managed to update the pics.
Booked the site as we have stayed before on the lovely grass area on the lower part of the site which the images still show on this web site, but these are now hard standings and the grass area at the top of the site is the worst I've seen on a CC site.
Grass uncut, looks like no one can be bothered with the grass area.
Lots of areas with worn out grass with bare patches but seems no one bothers to repair them.
I suspect this will be referred to as politically correct 're wilding' which we all know by celeb gardieers doesn't have any benefit, so the grass area just looks tatty and unkempt.
If you are booking on the hardstanding then the site looks very nice.
Noise from the formula one track ( main rd and roundabout) can be very bad, cars and motor bikes being raced around the roundabout until the early hours doing constant skids and dougnuts.
Shame the industrial estate huge gas tanks exposed in the centre of the grass area cant be disguised with fencing.
Great access to Winchester if you can drive and park, but walk is long and as far as I could tell on the pavement of a busy main rd. Maybe I missed a better route.
I wont be using the site again as there is a small private site in Alresford which I believe is cheaper and where the grass is green and cut and 5 mins walk into the centre of the town.
Positives
Good facilities that were always clean and tidy, water nice and hot in showers.
Pitches well spaced out.
Site is kept clean and tidy.
Bus stop very near.
Good position for visiting Winchester and surrounding area.
Plenty of dog poo bins.
Negatives which bothered me but may not be a problem for other people.
Only two cubicles in men’s toilets.
Next to the A31 which is very busy and noisy day and night.
Near to a firing range, I have a very nervous dog who is terrified of gun shot type noise so this was a nightmare for me.
On site dog walk is small and I never did find anywhere that was OK to walk my dogs off site.
The junction coming off the roundabout into the site is tricky as you don’t have right of way and you have to cross a main road.
The sign for the site is not very prominent.
Choose your shower cubicle carefully as it is a communal drain and the water from neighbouring showers comes across your floor.
Partition between shower area and drying area is very narrow so you have to be careful not to get your clothes etc wet.
First visit to this site and very impressed. The facilities are excellent. We had a good choice of pitches and the whole site was very clean & tidy. Easy bus route into Winchester which is a lovely place to visit, lots to see there.
We will return to this site.
Stayed here for 2 weeks last weekend on way back from Hertfordshire. Easy to find from M3 although you must beware of the B road coming across you when you exit off the roundabout to go into the lane as it’s a slightly odd layout as it’s not ‘on’ the roundabout. Lovely spacious site we opted for a grass pitch & we lucky enough not to have anyone around us but rest of the site was rather busy.
Great new shower blocks although a couple of small negatives..there are only 2 washing up sinks & these are located in same room as washing machines which I thought was just a bit unusual but not really an issue. Also the showers, as lovely & new as they are, unlike the old CAMC shower blocks where the shower dividers had tiled up stands on the floor these just have big gaps between the dividers and the floor which means you will get splashed with dirty water from the neighbouring showers which is a bit annoying if your drying.
But a good large site which we use again.
Stayed here and found very good and friendly staff, stayed again four week’s later and the staff were very unfriendly, maybe because the first stay they were not busy, but the second stay they were very busy. Site very clean. Close to city to the city.
First time at this site and found it very good. £4m just spent oin it so it should be good. Pitches a good size, but not much opportunity to find a pitch with a bit of prvacay. Wind breaks ar not allowed to be set up on grass fringes ajoining gravelled area of pitches. Flat level pitches. Small "adequate" dog walk. No pubs or restaurants within walking distance so you need a car. Limited stock in the shop, but Tesco is on the near side of Winchester. Site manager was helpful and informative, as was the other site staff.
Lovely site. New toilet blocks are so modern with a lovely but not so sure needed mural as you walk in. Showers lovely and powerful. Walked in to Winchester for the Saturday market with two Shih tzu in a buggy. If your satnav tells you to go through a lovely park- don’t as there’s too many steps on way out. On way back to site there’s a steep hill at the start of your journey so if you’re not fit.. get the bus back. Walk took about 45 minutes each way. Nice walk. Market ok. Sat in a park at the entrance of the city to have some lunch.
