This was our second stay at Morn Hill as we found it a perfect location for exploring the New Forest and surrounding area.
First thing to note though is lack of childrens facilities, this means that children including our own grandkids, end up playing around the caravans.....sorry for any noise they caused!!
Secondly as others have mentioned, the showers are getting a little old and would definitely benefit from a refurb (higher shower heads a must!!)
Otherwise, this is a beautifully well maintained site, and very little noise from the nearby A31 (there was more noise from planes using the nearby Southampton Airport!!). I will certainly be back for more family adventures to Paultons Park, Winchester and other wonderful locations.
Unusual circumstances
We stayed forv3 weeks because our daughter gave birth to twins 2 months early in Basingstoke and we live in Devon and my wife needed to be on hand
Not our usual type of sites but 'busy' and open on four levels
We started on the top level which is basically like staying in a big field but got to move to the best pitch on the site for the last 10 nights which was great bearing in mind that of the 3 weeks I spent over half the time on my own my wife flitting back and forth for a few days here and there and so I wanted to ensure I had good satellite cover to watch cricket, golf etc which we don't normally worry about
No wifi, toilet blocks with two showers each serving probably 75 units per block, very dated and could be noisy if near the road
Yet overall we had a very good time in difficult circumstances mainly through the magnificent help of the wardens and the area around the site, lots of great walks, buses in and around Winchester, lovely villages and country pubs so whilst a bit of a transitional site for people getting ferries from Portsmouth and Southampton and people moving on off all the time the 3 weeks passed quite quickly and enjoyably
The club needs to update this site ASAP but thanks for the help will use it again when visiting the kids
2 sites in 1
We stayed as a base to begin walking the South Downs Way, ideal location, easy walk into Winchester from site.
Site staff were lovely, always cheery and eager to help, we saw one warden direct a caravan driver to reverse onto a peg who clearly needed a lot of guidance.
Site is in 2 parts, top part clearly feels almost like a transit site for people only staying for short breaks but the lower tiered site has a lovely calm, relaxed holiday feel to it. Site is kept very clean but flat upper site could do with the loo block being updated. Pitches all level and easy to access.
Would definitely visit this site again to spend a weekend exploring Winchester itself.
our stay at morn hill
wardens very helpful toilets old and need upgrade some members need toilet training
Handy for the Motorbike Grand Prix
Very well laid out and kept site. Ideally situated for South Coast visits and Winchester. Unfortunately toilets and showers let it down probably should have been updated 10 years ago. Our pitch was as far from the A31 as possible but was still troubled by the sound of the traffic including lots of roaring motorbikes. The bus service into Winchester and Alton were very good with the bus stops close to site. Better signage on approach to site would help.
rules confused
used this site for taking daughter to cruise terminal and a short stay for us .arrived early(no idiots on m25) and explained saying all was well and that we will wait outside on arrive area.this was met with we are full your not supposed to be here before 12midday although we pointed out that the club site book states 10am,to this l was told sharply that l must have an old book (mine is for 2015/16 ?).then l was told that we could make tea and did so .l got out 2 tripod stools and straight away the warden came straight over and said we were camping now that l had got tripods out and we were all supposed to stay in our car and not turn on gas ,and we were being done a favour, and told three times that the fire brigade doesn't like it.taking the stools back to the front box l was then told not to walk away from her and l was being rude doing so,ltried to explain l haven't heard of all these bitty rules and was putting the tripods back as l wasn't allowed them.l was then told that she the warden could always chose to keep me waiting till 12 midday before letting me in .this was the WORST and most embarrassing welcome l have had in more the 10 years as a member. in the end she allowed us in at 10 past 10.if this is the club welcome l can expect for being early by 30 mins according to the book then what do l get if l do something wrong stocks perhaps so all other members on site can throw their leftovers at me perhaps.really bad impression and very disappointed apart from that the toilets need upgrade and the site is next to what sounds like a motorbike racing track . not a good site
Dated Toilet Facilities, and No Wifi
We spent three days here, to break up out journey to Devon, and found the toilet accommodation to be small and dated. So much so to used our caravan shower. Disappointed that the site did not have wifi. Staff were helpful and friendly.
A difficult site to find, first time, we missed it and have a 8 mile run to the next roundabout to turn around, access to the site is also a hairy!
Martini54
ideal for IOW
a bit noisy as it is near to a busy rd
ideal for access to Winchester the bus stop is a 10min walk max. bus takes only 10min to get to Winchester. Would visit again
one night stop
We have just used Morn Hill as a stop over to the IOW- Southlands. Easy to find just use the local sign posts. Some of the site is overgrown but we managed to find a nice pitch. Our main concern is that the shower blocks need a major re vamp. The tiles in the mens shower block were broken and everything looked dated, but it was clean.
Sadly we will not be returning until improvements have been made, which is a shame as we really wanted to visit Winchester.
stop over stay
stayed here again for a couple of nights before crossing to Isle of Wight - nice site - toilets dated but very clean
Only took us 35 minutes to Southampton docks at 9:15 on a Tuesday morning so great for that.
Went on "The Doughnut" on lower site - lots of room between vans
We shall be back when moving around the area again.
