A few days with friends

It is a very busy site with many european visitors using it overnight and often arrive from early morning until late evening. The staff work exceptionally hard to ensure the site is maintained in pristine condition although they are challenged by the elderly facilities. We appreciate the club may have a problem with leasing the site etc but members deserve similar standards ie number of facilities at all sites and this one is below that standard. The wardens and deputies are excellent, their manner with each visitor is welcoming, informative and caring, you really feel valued and it added to our really enjoyable stay. We will certainly visit again as the area has many aspects to enjoy as has been recorded elsewhere. You need to be cautious when leaving the site as the when accessing the island on the Alresford Road, traffic is fast and the access from Winchester creates a blind element for drivers. It is safe but you need to be cautious. Well done the staff for working so hard to ensure we get a first rate welcome and stay on this lovely site.

Location, location, location

This site is well positioned for a multitude of places. It is quick and easy to get into Winchester by the Park and ride service and once there you have a good choice of what to do. We went on a guided tour of Winchester college, which was very interesting. Another day we drove to Stonehenge, which was fascinating. The site itself was level and pleasant, but the shower block on the upper site really needs an update! I recommend this site, especially to couples, as there are no play facilities for children. It is also good for anyone wanting an overnight stay before or after catching ferries from Portsmouth.

Lovely spot

We really enjoyed our 2 nights here, we chose a pitch on the bottom section of the site. The toilet block is a little tired but very clean. The disabled toilet was fantastic lots of space and all necessary facilities needed in there. We are hoping to return later in the year when it will hopefully be quieter and we will be able to get out and about more.

Just the right site

We stayed for three nights whilst visiting friends in Winchester. This was our first visit as we have stayed at Rookesbury in the past due to the unfavourable comments re: toilet block at Morn Hill. We shouldn't have taken any notice. The facilities could do with a revamp at some point but are clean with plenty of hot water. We have seen worse on our travels with the caravan club. We weren't troubled by road noise as chose a pitch on the lower field as the site was not full. Please don't be put off by some negative comments, it is a beautiful site well managed with hard working wardens. Perhaps not ideal for children as there is no play area. Also the dog walk is a bit restricted. All in all a very relaxing three days. Thank you.

Night Stop

Staff Great, Location Great, the Site Looks & Feels Great too, but the traffic noise was horrendous until midnight, then stared again at around 06.30hrs. If you can, request a pitch as far away from the Main Road as possible.

Lovely weekend

Arrived rather apprehensively having read the reviews, but really didn't need to worry. Chose a pitch on the lower tier opposite the toilet block which was peaceful with great views. Toilet blocks may be dated but totally clean and we did not have to wait for a shower either morning. Wardens very friendly and helpful. Fish and chip van visits on Fridays and the warden delivered pizzas to the site when they collected for themselves, very good and piping hot. The site was quiet on the Friday night but much busier on the Saturday. Take your bikes, as lovely pubs are just over 1.5 miles away. Winchester is well worth a visit. We will be back.

Perfect pitch!

Warm welcome, lovely grass pitches, beautiful sunset, very handy for University open day visits! Would benefit from a larger recycling bin for empty glass bottles! (A beer crate is just not sufficient). Will return.

stopover

We used this site for two one night stopovers at the beginning and end of our holiday. We have only stayed on the top area so can't comment on the bottom field, but imagine it's the same. Friendly wardens, nice site and clean facilities albeit a little dated. Watching all relevant lanes for approaching traffic when trying to access the road to the campsite and pulling out with the van on tow when leaving can be a little daunting so if possible check it out on google earth before setting off.

Good stop over

Spent just the one night here before boarding the ferry to Spain. Perfect site very clean and well kept and only 30 mins from ferry port. The 2 lady's on reception were great especially when I accidently hit the fence with the back of my van. They came running out and have me a hand. Lovely people to talk to

Great site for accessing surrounding locations

Booked this site at short notice so did not research it as I would have normally. We had no need to worry, the site is easy to find and staff at reception helpful, allowing us to drive around and select our own pitch. Yes the shower block on the lower site is a bit dated, but it's clean and well maintained, perfectly functionable. The site is close to the main road so there is some traffic noise but nothing major.  Winchester is a short drive, or easily reached by cycle if you're that way inclined. Overall, a very nice site that affords great access to all venues in the region.
