Last visited this site in 2007, its changed a little since then !
Very easy to find and plenty of room for arriving units to get you off the main road.
Wardens were very friendly and we were quickly booked in and off looking for a pitch.
The site is easy to navigate with plenty of pitches to choose from however....
We initially pitched on 133 and started setting up but soon noticed that this block of hardstanding's (120 - 135) were very close to each other and we did feel like we were sitting in a goldfish bowl as people walked past, and the only place to park your car was in front of the caravan which made even more tight.
Before we fully set up (Awning and water etc) we had a walk around the site and found a much more quieter spot (104) so moved and got settled.
It was only then around 6am the following morning that the road noise started from passing cars, HGV's and tractors.
So pitches 104 - 116 back onto the main road and even though they area screened by trees you cannot fail to hear the passing traffic.
The rest of the site is well set out, Glamping pods and family tents are on a separate field as is the enclosed spacious dog walk.
There is a gate that gives a short 10 min walk in to the village with plenty of pubs and places to eat, the Tuesday market is also a good visit but gets busy.
All in all a pleasant stay.
Good location
Stayed for 6 nights, thought it was expensive. Booked a serviced pitch with awning which meant I'd need all my water butts etc. Was given a serviced pitch with full facilities, TV point, water, drainage I could have saved a lot of trouble if I'd known the pitch had full services. The awning area was gravelled on top of hard packed gravel which made it very difficult to hammer in awning pegs. The site is close to the town which has most stuff you want, be warned, last orders for food on a Sunday is around 6pm. Toilet block is very clean and not over busy. Unfortunately, like most sites, the usual barking dogs were very irritating with owners oblivious of their animals disturbing the peace. Fast food vans visit on different days in the evenings. Due to the dry conditions, barbeques were banned which I imagine ruined a lot of holidayers stay!
Choose your pitch carefully due to traffic noise
The site was clean and the pitches spaced out nicely, not in row after row. However, at one end of the site where we had our limited service pitch choice it was near the road and the traffic noise spoilt the relaxing experience.
The location very good and easy to walk into the town which had a variety of shops, cafes and pubs.
Disappointing Attitude
My wife, dogs and myself have been visiting Moreton campsite for seven years, often multiple times a year. As a Motorhome owner the ability to walk into town is very important to us, Moreton has become one of our favourite sites.
I would imagine like most visitors we need to travel over a hundred miles to visit the site, as we are all aware this year more than most the traffic is very unpredictable making planning an arrival time difficult. Not wanting to spend all day stuck in traffic we got up early and arrived mid-morning, we went to the local garden centre and had a wonderful breakfast and bought some great meat from the in-house butcher. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
The car park was getting busy at the garden centre, so not wishing to overstay our welcome we set off to the site at 12.40 Hrs. When we arrived there was a large sign placed in the entrance saying no arrivals until 13.00 Hrs fair enough I thought we are 15 minutes early and were not the first to arrive. How wrong was I !
The Warden greeting explained I was 15 minutes early, when my wife explained I had a long drive and had not wanted to over stay my welcome at the garden Centre, He abruptly interrupted me and said we should have stayed there.
As it turned out we were not alone with the disgraceful time keeping as the whole entrance filled up with guests also wishing to check in at 12.50. At 13.00 we were allowed to check in.
Firstly I would like to say I understand there must be rules but surely there must be some common sense? And surely after a long drive when people are tired and possibly stressed from the holiday traffic there could be some latitude? If that is not possible surely the wardens should show some empathy.
I have been a member for many years and have never encountered this issue before and I sure like most of us, yes I occasionally turn up early.
When we visit the sites we are on holiday that seems to get forgotten occasionally.
On the positive side Moreton was as good as ever the site is very clean and the new pitches are much better. I hope the improvements continue.
Excellent Site and Staff
Previous review seems to have errored. I gave Peace and Quiet a 4 star rating but it's come out as 1 star on the site.
Excellent Site & Staff
Having booked the site I then read some reviews and to be honest had second thoughts, but went anyway!
My experience was superior in every way to the negative reviews I found.
Road noise - yes it's there but if you want easy access to a site off the highway there has to be a nearby road. Traffic noise is not something the site staff can do much about. This was our second visit in 12 months and the noise was noticeably down this year.
Bird noise - yes we also had pigeons fighting or mating on our 'van roof. But the site is between the village and the countryside so nature is to be expected. I can't see what the staff could do about this as I'm sure members would not welcome a shooting party. I thought it might be rude to toss bird seed on my neighbour's roof every night - so didn't.
Pitches - ours' was fine. We had a good look around and the others were pretty good too. I couldn't fault the pitches or their maintenance.
Site staff - I didn't meet them all (Suz, Morgan, Lesley, Mike, Ian and Vikki) but everybody I came into contact with was delightfully warm, welcoming and happy to be of assistance - all with good humour. I could not and would not fault the staff at Moreton in Marsh. They were excellent.
Facilities - all were at their usual high standard (and that was despite one member's foul failure to remedy his 'leavings' around a toilet bowl!). As members we've got to be more responsible for own cleanliness and give the hard working staff a bit of a break. I'm certain that individual would not have left their 'van, motorhome or home toilet in such a dreadful state (and yes I did take the toilet brush to it).
Despite the best efforts of the local highways authority to thwart movement around the roads network (Stow on the Wold especially) the location was brilliant for all the things and places we wanted to do and see around that neck of the Cotswolds woods. We'll be back for sure.
Lovely site
Stayed here for 2 nights. It’s a lovely site and laid out so you can have a nice pitch in little bay areas. Great dog field and walks across the fields to the village. The village doesn’t have much in shops but lots of lovely tearooms and restaurants. We drove to Stow and got parked in our motorhome fairly easily. This has to be one of the cleanest sites ever, ever the bins were spotless. Staff were very friendly and helpful
Nice site but a bit noisy at times
We stayed here for 4 nights, having just travelled up from Devon. Our usual routine is, as I am the only driver, is that once arrived hubby goes in to pay fees etc. He returned to say we'd been charged for a serviced pitch, which I would not have booked for, but he didn't query it! So a more expensive stay than planned! We arrived just before 2pm so no queue to get in but not many great pitches left either. We ended up at the top corner on Red 34, huge pitch as you'd expect, handy for shower block etc. This roadway was basically a dead end so we weren't disturbed by cars/vans going up and down. However, it was also the entrance to the area for dogs so quite a few yappy muts going to and fro to disturb the peace. Overall the site is nice but seemed a bit neglected in places with untidy grass and weeds, quite a lot of nettles next to our pitch. It's a 10 minute walk in to Moreton which is a delightful place, with plenty of good bars and coffee shops. We took the train to Oxford for a day out which was brilliant plus there is a bus which picks up outside the Corn Exchange and goes to Bourton on the Water, even on a Sunday.
We had a lovely holiday, well worth a visit.
First stay at Moreton-in-Marsh
We had a lovely short break at this site. Arrival was very organised. We arrived around 12.45 p.m. and there were about five outfits waiting but the two wardens were very organised asking us to wait in our motorhome until asked to go to reception to book in and at 1 pm they would tell us to move forward into the site. To avoid traffic backing up on the main road they did say we would be able to move onto the site slightly earlier if this occurred. They were very welcoming and friendly. There were a lot of pitches to choose from and we selected pitch 128 along the back of the site as we wanted to be in the sunshine and away from the busy road. It is true that some pitches have been updated but ours hadn't and it was fine.
It is a large site and, although busy with a few children around as it was school holiday time, it was quiet and there was a lovely atmosphere. Our lionesses winning the Euros final that weekend helped!
We don't usually take our motorhome off site so this site being very close to Moreton-in-Marsh suited us. You can either walk out of the back of the site along the Monarch's Way footpath or walk along the main road. We also walked to Batsford Arboretum along the footpath and spent a nice afternoon there and did a larger circular walk also involving the Heart of England Way footpath to Longborough, Bourton on the Hill and Blockley. Blockley is a lovely village in a picturesque setting and there is a lovely community cafe and shop. The food was excellent.
All in all a lovely site and a relaxing weekend in the sunshine.
Out of control children and cramped pitches!
This site is like two totally different sites all in one. One side is cramped and you're packed in like sardines and the other side is what you'd expect a club site to be like. Initially we pitched on the cramped side and felt so, so uncomfortable! Felt like we couldn't move or do anything because we'd inconvenience the other people in our are, we moved pitches the following day and what a difference it made! No road noise and the usual, club-standard size pitches. It looks as though they're half way through renovating the site, perhaps when they start on the other side they could get rid of a few pitches so you feel like you can actually breathe without your neighbour knowing about it.
Facilities were good and always very clean.
I think the club made a mistake with the 'experience freedom' area. The yurts/safari tents are right next to the play area and take up a lot of space which I guess used to be the playing field?
Children were often in the dog walk, ruining the experience for my dog as she's a little nervous and doesn't appreciate children charging up to her when we're on a field for dogs! Not to mention our last dog walk being ruined by some children walking their dog offlead in the dog area, allowing him to charge around the field chasing every dog it sees, even nipping my nervous dog on the tail a few times. I did tell the children to put him on a lead and they were cheeky saying that it says "Dogs are free to roam"... Yes they are but not when you've zero control over them and allow them to harass other dogs! Their dog did this to several other dogs when we were there too. Yes I know this isn't the club's fault, mainly their parents but again, these people were from the 'experience freedom' pods and maybe have no idea how you're actually supposed to behave when caravanning?! Maybe the dog walk should be policed better by the wardens as it totally ruined our experience.
Sadly we won't be returning to this site, maybe we'll try Burford if we ever fancy the Cotswolds again. Really saddening visit.
