looked forward to this site but seriously let down with site improvements, lack of compassion from staff and 5:30am departures

Had been looking forward to this site for a while so we had booked in for 2 nights at the end of a midlands tour for some peace and quiet. Sadly we didn’t get that. Woke up the first morning to the noise of a caravan packing up at 5:30am, had thought that it was standard on all sites that vehicle movements were not allowed before 7:30, guess that is not the case here. Went into the town for a morning break to get away from the concrete saws cutting up the roads around the site which we were told would be happening at a different location to where we had pitched only to be told on return that the noise would be happening all day and closer to where we were, not very truthful to be honest and a little let down by the on site staff, they don’t seem to care about the happiness of their visitors and just shrugged their shoulders. Just seems a strange time to plan the work in during a ‘busy’ spell, surely this could of been dealt with out of peak period? Plus wouldn’t it be better to put a better system in place to warn of site works online, such as a pop-up notice to warn of the noise when you book rather than a small non-descriptive grey text box hidden amongst the normal blurb, kind of feels that the club just wants you to book the site, take your money and not be bothered about the actual experience.

Valentine's break

Stayed for four nights over Valentine's Day leading up to the school half term when the site was fully booked and very busy. Really friendly wardens always help to make a good stay. Nice flat pitches although very narrow but still private. Good TV and WiFi. Good clean facilities. Easy walk into Moreton in Marsh which has plenty of shops and places to eat. Also very central for all the stunning places in the Cotswolds. Tried the tasty Pizzas from the visiting Pizza van, well worth the money.

Mixed Blessings!

We have been visiting this site since the early 80's and it has undergone significant development over that time. The site is in a great location and therefore incredibly popular; easy, level walk into the town with lots to visit in the immediate area, especially if you are a NT member. Wardens very friendly and hardworking - thank you. During busy periods, the long, narrow pitches can give the impression of being hemmed in but when it empties out, the site takes on a completely different feel. The 'elephant in the room' for me are the newly installed and very ugly glamping pods on what was a great dog exercise area - once again encroaching on the available space. In response to a previous review, the club say that they want to provide accommodation for friends and family of the site users. Does this mean we are now the Caravan, Motorhome and Glamping Club? For me, the money would have been better spent on upgrading the pitches on the site and filling in the pot holes on the service roads - just my opinion.Despite this, it is a lovely site and we will no doubt be back.

Week-end break

Very busy the weekend we stayed but many leaving Sunday morning. Good location for visiting surrounding area, easy walk to town and buses to other towns if needed. Pleasant walk on field footpaths to Batsford Arboretum with café/shop. Wardens friendly and facilities blocks kept clean. I feel as other have said the site is looking somewhat worn/well used and in need of some work. Pitches are in need of re defining and new chippings in some parts of the site. Some road noise on some pitches at times. Didn't use play area or dog walk but both looked OK.

Peaceful weekend

Stayed at this sire end of March staff are amazing and so pleasant, I will agree the site needs a little TLC but otherwise fab. Location couldn't be better and with 4 dogs it is great to walk around the roads with paths on the side of the roads. The only downside for us is that they have cut the dog walk in half to place those electric generators sorry pods which in my view look awful. I struggle to see the benefit of them when most people have dogs which direction are you going C&M Club. You may get the townies staying there but you will lose your loyal dog lovers bad view in my view.

Site was looking a bit tired after the winter

Stayed for a long weekend in late March. I was initially very impressed with the welcome, all the staff where very pleasant. The site is quite cramped and was obviously laid out many years ago before the advent of larger vans and motorhomes. The pitch (van and awning) was very tight for space and the hardstanding was in desperate need of weeding and raking over. The overall impression of the site is that it needs a bit of a spruce up. As others have said, maybe some of the budget spent on the Glamping could have been diverted to updating the pitches and putting in some fully serviced ones? The location of the site is superb and I do believe it was once a "jewel in the crown" of the club. I would go back but not in the school holidays as I would imagine there would be a fair amount of racket as there are a lot of pitches in a very small area. They may comply with H&S but dont offer too much in the way of privacy.

Central location

Stayed fro 4 nights , a good central location for this area and lots to see ,a bus stop outside the gate and a selection of shops in the town , the site could do with a spring clean ,but with it opening all year and always very well booked it's difficult for the club to keep on top of it , the pitchs are just an adequate size but those with a caravan and awning would need to park the car across the front of the pitch, a good site dog walk and all fenced so you can let your dog off lead , TV signal through a dish is not a problem , a visit to Batsford Arburetum in a M/H is no problem as there is plenty of parking , don't be put off by the negative posts ,try it for yourself

Could be so much better

The Moreton in Marsh Club site is a fairly regular short stay site for us as its only 50 miles from where we live. On this occasion the visit was to test out our new motorhome. We like the site because not only is it convenient to home but because of the easy walking access to the rather nice Cotswold town of the same name. It was interesting to see the new Pods which have been added to the site. All nicely done and not at the expense of taking away existing pitches. In money terms it must have been a serious investment. Whilst personally I have no objection to this sort of development one must question whether some of that money might have been better spent on improving this site. Quite a lot of the pitches at Moreton in Marsh are way below the standard of the best Club sites elsewhere in the network. Not only are many of the small the pitch delineation at the edges are obscured by half mud, half grass with a few stone trodden in. I fear that an extra dressing of stones, as advertised in the information hut, is not really going to address the issue. This site needs a serious redevelopment so that all pitches meet the same standard as other club sites. What also surprises me is that this very popular site does not have any services pitches. On the plus side one of the motorhome service points (why not both?) was about to be converted to an open grill which is excellent news. Other work to be completed at the same time is the resurfacing and filling in of potholes on some of the site roads.

Comment from the Club

Many thanks for your review and we really appreciate your feedback. As mentioned the site is currently undergoing a range of improvements; road repairs are being undertaken shortly and improvements to service points, a new dog wash / bike wash and chemical empty point is being installed currently. We haven’t added pitches to take away from the pitch sizes and these conform to Health and Safety regulations when pitched as per our guidelines for the site. We regularly top up chipping to maintain the quality of pitches and apologise to anyone if there have been issues with these during recent visits. For the most part, we receive warm reviews about the site, staff, and member experiences and do hope anyone booking for the coming season will fully enjoy their experience and benefit from the enhancements.

One of the key driving forces behind our Experience Freedom product and Glamping pods at Moreton-In-Marsh was to enable members’ family and friends without an outfit of their own to accompany them during their trips and holidays. The sites selected for these developments have been carefully considered with members in mind and feedback has been great, members love being able to share the enjoyment of touring with their family and friends. Of course these are also popular with those that need or would like to experience a different way of staying with us and introducing new guests to our sites.

Pleasant surprise

We were a bit wary when we booked as there had been some negative reviews but were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Yes there are some pitches that need work, from having a wander around the site though these appear to be mainly those on the right hand side as you enter. These pitches also seem a bit smaller than the other side of the site but if you aren't using your awning they are absolutely fine. Facilities were kept clean by the wardens but not by other caravanners unfortunately! There is some road noise but then again the site is very accessible so you expect that. 10 minute walk into the village which is quite busy but there are lots of places to eat and wet your whistle. It is a big site but divided up quite well. Lots of bird life as well (saw our first ever woodpecker) and as dusk falls the rabbits arrive. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and relaxed.

19 to 21 March

This was our second visit to Moreton, the first being 2 years ago in peak season and at that time we were not impressed as we felt that there was too many pitches for the size of the site. As we were looking for a short break and really liked the location we decided to give it another try. Firstly I have to say that we have a small motorhome and as we were only there for 2 nights we only used the wind out awning and not the full awning. On the positive side: We found the facilities very good, and although a few years old were well maintained and spotless. The wardens were very helpful and friendly. There appeared to be more space this time, the site was busy but not full. The dog walk on site was very good. The location is excellent if like us you don’t cook in the motorhome and like to eat out. We didn’t notice any exceptional pot holes. The walks in the area are excellent. On the negative side: All the pitches appear small and certainly the one we were on could not accommodate our motor home and full awning without using some of the grass, although there were plenty of caravans and motorhomes with full awnings up. We think in peak season it will still feel cramped due to the number of pitches in relation to the size of the site. In summary if you go in the quieter times you will have a better chance of picking a pitch that suits your needs. We still think in peak season the site will feel very crowded. We will return again in the quieter months.
