A peaceful retreat in beautiful Herefordshire

We spent 4 nights at the Moorhampton Club Campsite quite by chance. Ours was a last-minute booking which turned out to be just what we needed. After a protracted and very wet spring, what we needed was peaceful countryside and a chance to unwind and enjoy our temporary surroundings. This quaint site built where a railway station once stood, is tastefully arranged and surrounded by beautiful rural countryside. The showers and toilets are spotlessly clean and there is always plenty of hot water. For us it isn’t important that this facility isn’t totally modern. It serves its purpose well and is efficiently maintained. We enjoy being outdoors as much as possible and cycling in the surrounding area was really enjoyable, with a variety of villages and several places to refresh with a hot drink and cake! The architecture also is very interesting and carefully preserved. There is also horse-riding in Clyro if you are interested. It was a joy to see many very tall, old trees which is so rare in our country nowadays. Naturally the bird life and variety is plentiful with bird song frequently greeting us along the way. The wardens were always pleasant, helpful, informative and hard working. Weobley (4 miles north) has a very successful Indian restaurant from which we had one of the best curries’ ever! Also, the Salutation Arms provided a very satisfying evening meal from an extensive menu. All of these things made our first excursion of the year in our touring caravan a real treat, we even had sunshine for a couple of days, though we couldn’t shake off a chilly N/E wind, it didn’t spoil anything! We will be returning to this site in the future.
