Very smart site in good location BUT!

This is an excellent site in terms of facilities and location - the amenity block is to die for! But there is a problem - the so called hard standings are not club standard. For the first time in 34 years of caravanning we had to take down our awning at 10 o'clock at night when the wind (which was not that strong) got into the awning. All the pegs had been loosened - this despite my best efforts in using all manner of pegs from standard tent pegs to the heaviest duty available. The reason is that the hard standings are no more than gravel spread over sand. So whilst a super site do not attempt to use an awning if there is any chance of a bit of wind - quite likely as this is a site situated 15 minutes walk from a beach.

Fab fab fab

Well, fab site, the pitches are set apart, but very close back to back. Still the hedge gives some privacy. Parking up is tight, leaving too. Overall we have had less space at Club sites. We booked the massive private room, a bath, shower, loo and basin. Worth the extra, gives some drying room too :) This is yours, and yours alone, its not shared. You can leave stuff in there without worry. It is behind a front door that auto closes, and then you have other doors. that also close immediately. Even if people follow you in they cannot get into your room. Our card gave access to two rooms. The full bathroom and a shower room, same as the first but no bath. Its a £10 for a key card. You get use to having to take a card everywhere. Stops beach goers using the site. Loos fab, new spotless, well cleaned. Cassette loo section spotless also. Wash ups ok come with bowls. Dog walk has a graveled path and plenty of poo bins. Great play ground and foot ball pitch, plus extra space also. Pitch well drained, the ground being sand is soft. The hard pitch needs super long gravel pegs to make any difference, normal gravel pegs had no effect. Almost feel the hard standing pitches need recompacting? Wind our week was from the south, persistent. You need to go prepared with storm ties, the site is exposed. We were very lucky with the weather, but the site dries quickly. Very handy for the beach 10mins, the castle 15mins, the shop 5mins. Harlech has a nice sweet shop, a great anything you need shop, the Indian we didn't try, but the Restaurant The Plas, is a must. Up passed the castle, turn on to the highstreet and its opposite the cafe and shops set back in the square. Here you get great food and if early enough a table with fab views :) We did the Steam railway up to Snowdon, booked ahead before the holiday, same for the Deep mine, both fab. Portmerion we booked ahead for ease, the ticket was valid for 31days after your chosen start date. Harlech and Criccketh castles, Barmouth for crabbing(watch your tides), amusements, bumper cars and fish and chips. Criccketh was £1 parking :) Most parking machines and the site washing/dryers only accept the new £1 coin. A great break, we'd come back but there are other places to go. Cannot fault this site, the people, staff or the facilities. Get what you pay for, as it is a bit pricey, but then you can pay£2 night and stay in a cow field, or stay here in total comfort, your call. Roads can be narrow, so care required when towing. Nice touch with the goodie bags for the kids on leaving.

We'll be back!

Had a five night stay here and apart from one day of torrential rain we were blessed with good weather. Fantastic site. Staff all so friendly and helpful. Loo block spotless...although I did treat myself and paid extra for the private loo and shower, well worth the money...saved me money in prunes! Lol. Yes the pitches are close but no different to Riverside where we had stayed before a few nights before. We are only in a small van conversion with no awning so do understand if you are in a big unit it may seem tight. The wifi may be intermittent but it's free! Can't complain at that. The site is close to the beautiful beach in one direction and along the road towards the town there is a food store. Harlech castle is great and the railway station is a short walk enabling us to go to Porthmadog and get the steam train, also took train to Barmouth. If we had stayed longer would have journeyed further on the train, it was ideal...will leave that until next time. Had an absolutely fab time and will certainly return.

Great site, great location.

This site is brilliant. The play area is superb, the shower block is superb. The location is superb, equi-distant between the castle and the beautiful beach. Yes, maybe the pitches are quite close together. Re wifi: why go on holiday and be clued to a phone or tablet? The wifi was certainly adequate for our requirements, I think I would prefer the toilet waste disposal to be outside in the fresh air rather than in a windowless room, though again this room was spotless and well designed. The staff were all very friendly and very helpful. I'll be back.

Our 3 night stay

Stayed on Min Y Don for a 3 night stay to meet with friends. First impressions were ok, fairly warm welcome. Pitches are very close together and access roads very narrow and for a large rig like ours made for a lot of shunting back and forth to get onto the pitch. Pitches are good, flat and well serviced, but the closeness of others was not comfortable. Harlech is a nice place beaches are magnificent and local amenities are sufficient. Would we stay here again, NO Pitch prices are expensive. Wifi very poor to non existent, and far to many do,s and dont,s and having to complete a form to get the Wifi code is a joke. Key card to empty toilet can, totally unnecessary WHY ? I appreciate its a business but staff need to loosen up.

A pleasant stay

We stayed at Min Y Don for 4 nights in May 2017. This is a large site with a fair walk through a static caravan site from the main road. The welcome was friendly but I sensed a business like atmosphere on arrival. The facilities were very good with pristine toilet block - it was quiet during our stay and there are shutters within the block to expand the facility when busier - also enabling cleaning without affecting customer access. One tip.....the showers switch themselves off after about 25 seconds so standing leaning against the pressure button keeps them running continuously! I got the impression that a fair number of pitches had been squeezed into a limited area and if the site had been full then I wouldn't have been so comfortable with neighbours being quite so close. Harlech is a small town and eateries are very limited. We tried the Castle Cottage which was very expensive but the Castle restaurant does Tapas evenings which we would thoroughly recommend. All in all we had a comfortable stay with wonderful distant mountainous views, with free Wi Fi and a small supermarket 10 minutes walk away but were perhaps were a little disappointed overall.

August bank holiday.

My husband, I and my son have just returned from a bank holiday weekend on this site and I honestly couldn't praise it enough, it was spotlessly clean the toilet and shower facilities were spotless. Good dog walking area, lovely playground for children the staff were all helpful and friendly. The site is just a short walk from a dog friendly beach, Harlech castle can be seen from the site and Harlech itself is picturesque. We loved it and will definitely return (the glorious sunny weather helped too).

Brilliant Site, Shame About The Weather

My wife and I stayed here for a long weekend, Friday 19th to Tuesday 23rd August 2016. We know Harlech very well as my parents live there. We had planned for a big family get together with days out on the beach and BBQ's with the grand-kids. Sadly our stay coincided with very stormy weather. The Min-Y-Don site however is incredible. The staff at reception were friendly and helpful. Being old hands at trailer tenting in France we are complete newcomers to caravanning. This site is well on par with some of the more luxurious French glamping sites. It's well laid out and the touring pitches are fully serviced with individual power hook-ups, tap and grey water drainage. The pitches are hardstanding with grassed surround. Awnings must not be pitched on the grass though and vehicle parked on the grass. We were on pitch 19 which is next to the main roadway and as such was very exposed to the torrential rain and wind which was gusting at over 55mph on Friday and Saturday. As a result we had to take our awning down as the wind was dragging our rock pegs out despite double pegging! Most people who were in the lee of the facility block or hedges fared better though. The facility block itself was a revelation for us. It's very big with huge shower cubicles, powerful hot showers and there's underfloor heating. None of the draughty brick outhouses with weedy showers we'd come to expect from British camp-sites before we'd stayed on before exploring France. It was spotlessly clean too (but I do wish everyone would learn how to use the provided toilet brush before leaving the toilet cubicle though. According to my wife the problem was even worse in the ladies YUK!) The toilet cubicles are also very big and some had washing facilities inside if you don't want to share the communal washing area. We didn't use the laundry or washing up facilities but they appeared very well equipped. The chemical disposal point was almost clinical with stainless steel drainage unit, powerful spray for rinsing out and hand washing facilities. Access to the entire facility block is controlled by the single access card you receive on arrival. Just remember not to leave this in your pocket when you decide to go for an unannounced walk to the nearby mini supermarket when the other half was planning to go for a shower. My only disappointment was on my morning of departure. After suffering four days of monsoon conditions the sun finally made an appearance on our last day. We thought it would be nice to stay and spend a few extra hours with the kids on the beach. Sadly though despite there being numerous empty pitches all around us nothing could be found to accommodate us, so we had to leave. Altogether though, a wonderful site with luxurious facilities in a beautiful area. We will definitely return.

Great Ice Cream!

Lovely clean site with excellent staff.  Excellent facilities that were always clean and tidy. Despite the poor weather the surrounding area is wonderful with a steady walk into the town and up to the castle. The castle cafe and nearby ice cream shop are excellent.  Did some good walking, both along the beech and in the surrounding area, it's reasonably flat so you can go further, apparently! probably wouldn't go back, but would recommend it.

Dissapointed

Telephoned this site before booking was informed there was a school gym available close by.Turned up on site to be told school having gas refit so wouldnt be able to use. This site has a small gym with equipment you can get by on but unable to use. When asked the  reason i was told about £3,500 which is what the statics pay extra yearly.  If id had known this i wouldnt have booked this site in the first place.Very dissapointed and not what id have expected for £450.00 for a 10 night stay, never again.
