Fabulous site with perfect wardens

Melrose is a fabulous site with the most helpful and friendly wardens. Its position a very short stroll from the high street, and opposite the rugby club, is ideal. It is also a short walk to the River Tweed and Chain Bridge, which are "must see" sights. From both my recent visit to race the Devil's Foot half-marathon (actually 14 miles) from Lauder to the campsite entrance via (at the end) the summit of Eildon Hill - a rather steep climb, and from cycling locally the days before the race, and also a previous visit a few years ago, I've experienced it is a brilliant base for both trail running and road cycling on quiet roads. The combination of shops, especially the Co-op at the campsite entrance, so close, easy very local interesting walks, and the opportunities for running and cycling from the site make it a perfect site for anyone who is remotely active. Without at any time a necessity to drive off the site. Another of this site's huge assets is the very helpful and friendly approach of the wardens: Janet and her husband. (Also the relief warden when I telephoned an spoke with her in advance.) I highly recommend every aspect of this site - like Scotland as a destination - small but perfectly formed.
