Toilets

Having just left the Maragowan site at Killin I felt I had to leave a review after reading some of the negative comments. We had just visited a privately owned site which was much more expensive and it was a building site. The showers were luke warm and went off after 10 seconds, unbelievable! The showers at this site were clean, very hot, powerful and did not go off until you turned them off yourself. They were super. I believe the flooring is concrete because of the possibility of flooding. We found them to be clean every day and will certainly stay again.

Up there with the best

We started our trip this year at this site and returned a week later to end our tour it is a lovely quiet place with walks to Lock Tay and into the village the site is tidy and the facilities clean the wardens are friendly and helpful if needed, we thoroughly enjoyed both our stays and will be returning

Very Tired Facilities

Stayed for two nights as part of our tour of Scotland - Facilities are well worn and in need of refurbishment. Having paid for a pitch with awning I actually found a pitch with out awning that I preferred so we setup thinking nothing of it as this was a cheaper pitch. The staff member insisted that I move to a different pitch. The site was not full and there was plenty of choice. The local village is a pleasant walk away along with a couple of decent pubs and cafes. The Falls of Dochart are worth a visit. Good dog walking close to the site

Poor facilities

Visited whilst touring Scotland in May, roadworks outside site entrance didn’t help poor state of repair access. Facilities were extremely poor with flooring needing a jet wash or steam clean as areas difficult to mop were black. Weather didn’t help with overall impression. Worst site we visited on this tour. Not up to usual club standard.

Disappointing site

Arriving on a busy day, there were queues back on the road although this was not a problem as everybody was parked in the arrivals area as they should. However this didn’t seem to satisfy the officious warden who strutted around hurling instructions at people waiting, treating us as if we were idiots. His time would have been better spent helping speed up the booking in process. The site was scruffy and the grass uncut, apart from around the wardens area, which was cut immaculately. The CEP at the toilet block was disgusting, it stank and was filthy. It didn’t help that the waste water hose was creased and cracked, pouring water everywhere. Although the toilet area is old and needs refurbishment, there is no excuse for it being dirty. To be polite, the wardens were not the most energetic we have encountered.

Lovely and peaceful by the river.

We have stayed on this site many times over the years, it is well positioned for Killin, shops and restaurants, and is very peaceful if you get a pitch besides the river, by the road not so peaceful, BUT the toilets are now well past their best, with the floors being particularly bad, they look dirty and green, they are not dirty, think it must be a chemical reaction with floor material, whatever the cause they are very unpleasant, even a quick coat with a waterproof paint would help. Not nice. Good to see that the site drainage on some flood prone pitches has been sorted out. Please sort out the toilet block floors.

Excellent Site

We stayed here in April 2022 and it was our second visit to the site. The site is well laid out and most of the pitches are flat. Bring a large hammer / mallet for your awning pegs the ground on the pitches is hard. The facilities are the only thing that let down the site. They are in working order and are clean but are now of an age that they look tired and in need of upgrading. The site is located on the outskirts of the village of Killin and it is a short walk into the centre where there is a reasonable sized Co-Op and some shops to browse. There are a few places to eat and the food was good, recommend the Falls of Dochart Inn and The Killin Hotel. There are a lot of nice walks in the area which can be found in various books or apps.

NO HOT WATER

We arrived after a night of wild camping and the only reason we book into a club site is to use the showers and perhaps get a bit of local knowledge. On arrival I asked where a particular waterfall was, the reply, we’re all new this season and have no idea. The next part of our conversation was there’s no hot water so we’ve locked off the showers. Brilliant….. I know these things happen but surely a site warden could have called ahead to warn us. If we’d known we wouldn’t have made the journey. So FULL PRICE for no local knowledge or hot water.

The only reason I gave 4 blobs for good for families is that that’s what I assume it’s good for as there were plenty of kids.

PLEASANT / QUIET

Upon arrival staff explained everything we needed to know about the site , we were then instructed to pick a pitch , before doing so staff member advised us which ones to avoid due to some being water logged due to heavy rain , we chose a pitch close to facilities . The site and facilities were clean and i would say the floor in the facilities could do with a good steam clean , other than that it is ok . There is plenty to do near the site and we went to the Capercaillie Restraunt for Lunch which we can highly recommend as the food was amazing and the staff were very polite . This is a great site for relaxing or if you are into hill walking or cycling or even general site seeing , Perth , Sterling , Aberfeldy , Pitlochry are all within short drive away and there are plenty Lochs nearby . We will recommend and return to this site .

Great location and site

This is probably one of my top 5 sites on the network. Great location and beautiful area to explore, on this visit we walked up Sròn a'Chlachain and Creag Buidhe and kayaked from the campsite to Loch Tay which is stunning. Unfortunately there is toxic green algae on the loch this year and this is signposted in reception. There are quite a few shops, cafes and restaurants a short walk from the campsite. We had a good time at the capercaillie. The toilet block was dated but functional. All pitches looked on par size wise and were level, with the more convetted ones along the river. The site was half full when we arrived and we were able to pick our pitch. The wardens were friendly and helpful, and checkin was quick and painless, with no fuss.
