Oh dear

Maragowan is a lovely site in beautiful surroundings. The wardens are friendly and helpful, and keep the site and facilities in excellent condition. All the attributes which we have come to enjoy and expect when staying at club sites.

First time visitor

We stayed at this site in the second week of June & found it very relaxing place. The pitches backing onto the river are great as you have plenty of grass area around you and can walk down the bank (watch out the bank is steep in places and water is very deep) to the river. The road is a bit noisy at times but it is quite at night. As usual the wardens kept the place very tidy & are friendly. During our stay the midges had not really made any appearance so did not bother us to much. Early morning sighting across the river of a stag munching on the grass was worth getting up for sadly only saw it the once... The walks around are very accessible, the walk to Loch Tay is just outside the site over the bridge following the road to the cemetery and then the old railway track, you can follow this route along the banks of the loch and into Killin and right to Dochart Falls. If you which to bike then there are plenty of routes to follow an off road track is marked just past Dochart Falls on the A827 out of Killin on your left Ardmore forest. This route again follows the old railway track up into the forest and back round about 4-5 miles other than this use route 7 signs along quite roads. We will visit again

Alas, no fish!!!

We stayed here for 3 nights in early May. This was our first visit, so we had no preconceptions. The site is lovely, and is situated in a beautiful part of Scotland. There are plenty of opportunities for walking and cycling. I also tried the free fishing on the river Lochay, but failed on both fly and spinners. However, it was a pleasant place to spend a few hours in the early evening, with the added bonus of plenty of local wildlife to watch. The wardens were also friendly and helpful, and maintained the busy site very well. We will definitely return.

Relax by the river

Having travelled to here from Morvich(a walkers site, with lots of coming and going ), Maragowan was busy in a different way. The site was almost full and most folk were enjoying the sun. It made for a relaxed atmosphere as no one was in a hurry to go anywhere!

The site is long and thin with plenty of grass areas around the pitches. The amenities block coped admirably to say the site was full, helped by the fact there are several service points well placed at each end of the site. The only downside is that the A road alongside can be a little noisy at times - lots of logging lorries when we were there and tractors start work early.

Killin itself is an easy walk along the road. The Co-op can supply most needs. There are plenty of places to eat - one pub is just across the road. Walk as far as the craft shop by the Dochart Falls bridge and you will be rewarded with 10% discount on production of your CC card

Feeling more energetic? Plenty of walks, short or long. Fishing, from the site, or hire a canoe and paddle down the river

Another comfortable visit

We had a brief stay over and as usual enjoyed our comfortable experience. The toilet block is very clean and the site is ideally located to visit this most beautiful area and quaint town.

First time visit but will return

Easy to find site but some of the roads on the way there an be fun! Great wardens and usual easy check in - well stocked reception. We were warned that the furthest away pitches had TV reception problems and parked in the middle - which on 2 different systems still had problems with one picking up no signal at all(Omni aerial). Great views and scenery - loads of birdsong(loud birdsong at 4.30am) - slight niggle about daytime traffic noise as site is beside the main road through Killin but not enough to put off and dies away at night. Well laid out with great facilities - though a good number of pitches were out of action due to electrical issues. Village is a great wee place to wander round with Coop and couple other stores and the famous if slightly overrated chip van and its variable opening, Falls of Dochart are drop dead gorgeous. Will definitely go again.

Our latest long weekend at Maragowan.

As usual had a lovely three days at this site, Wardens were as friendly as ever and always get a nice warm welcome when we arrive, facilities spotless as ever, beautiful setting. Only one niggle and this is not at the site but the club insisting we park on the peg, i feel this is a little regimental. Other clubs dont enforce this rule and there dosnt seem to be a problem, not blaming the wardens. Again a fantastic site will be there again soon.

Good for Children, not for relaxing.

This is a good site for families, it was noisy with lots of children, most were allowed to run free and must have been encouraged to shout a lot. There was also a busy road right next to the site. This is not the place to head if you want to relax. We also had a warden striding out our pitch and a strange comment on the way out as we used the service point telling us there was another service point we could have used? All a bit strange and left us feeling a little uncomfortable. We will be avoiding this one in future. killin is a beautiful place, well worth a drive through.

Lovely site, shame about the weather!

A really pleasant location, handy for lots of interesting places and easy to walk into Killin with its shops and amazing waterfalls. The site was well run by its friendly and helpful wardens, facilities were every bit as clean as you would expect. The only downside was the road, which runs close to much of the site and could be noisy at times.  Shame we had a lot of rain, but it kept the falls full. I have no idea about facilities for children, so I tried not to rate them, but the system forced a response.

Great site, location, lack of play things for under 8s

The facilities are good ,the showers look a tad grubby although clean the flooring looks black in places. the site could do with more play facilities for the under 8 year olds, only a tired play van , swings a suspended bridge would be good take look at yellow craigs play park for ideas. The council play park is along the road, but more needed on site for the wee ones. Hamish
