Serenity

Or almost. A lovely peaceful site nestling in the shadow of Ben Lawers. It is close to the main A road but remember this is the Highlands and traffic is almost none existent at night, practically the only nocturnal sounds being the gentle rippling of the River Lochay and the occasional hoot of an owl. In the day time you may be lucky enough to spot a red kite too. If I were being critical the toilet block is not quite as modern as some sites I've stayed at but every bit as clean. Watch out for the midges too, the site shop sells citronella candles and Avon Skin So Soft (as recommended by HM Special Forces). Despite that, I'd certainly return if only for the experience of avoiding ecclesiastically white sheep, a very contented looking highland cow and red deer on the roads, all of which were encountered on our last trip.

Great little site

My wife and I stayed here with our daughter for 3 nights as part of our grand tour of Scotland. Fantastic little site with lovely walks off site. Nice little gift shop and a travelling himilayan market in the village hall which was brilliant. We ate at the Dochert Falls Inn good food not bad value. The menu isn't the usual you would find in a pub but well worth a visit. Staff and facilities upto usual high club standards. We did the land rover mountain safari which was a great few hours and overall really liked this site and will return in the future.

peaceful haven

Recently spent a couple of nights on this well presented site. Staff were friendly and helpful. Only small issue was with toilets which were not locked and my wife would prefer the security on the outside door especially with entrance being at rear of building. The toilet blocks were clean, tidy and showers were hot. If you have a dog and not especially fit recommend you pitch near the exit of the park as all walking is off site. Plenty of walking opportunities with the Falls at the other end of Killin and coffee shops to rest on route. Definately worth a repeat visit.

Wee gem in the glen

What a location, on the outskirts of the town, great scenery, the hotels, bars close by are all good for a drink & a meal from our experience. Lots of outdoor activities in the area either a walk or short drive away. Great base for exploring the surrounding countryside. We will be back - faultless stay for our 3 nights there.

Touring Scotland

Loved this site. Booked it as a short stopover for a couple of nights on our way thru Scotland and so glad we did. Peaceful well looked after site. Very clean shower and toilet block with a laundry where the washer and drier both worked! Very helpful in the office and some wonderful scenery around. A little gem. Would definitely stay here again.

Site was pretty well kept pitches and clean although quite pricey.  Staff friendly and helpful when we had to leave a day early due to a family issue. Not much to do locally if weather is poor which unfortunately it was when we were there.

Good site but quite pricey

This is the third time that we've stayed at Maragowan and we enjoyed the couple of days, not doing much but walking through the village to the Falls of Dochart Inn, having lunch and a beer or three and returning 'the back way'. The site is spotless and well maintained, the toilet block is excellent and the wardens are friendly and helpful. It's great for dogs as there are extensive walks adjacent to the site, and there is a small play area for children. I'd agree with another reviewer that I'd worry a bit about the river if I had young children. Reception stocks some emergency/last minute items and there is an information room adjoining it with lots of leaflets. There are many places to eat in the village but most of them are a bit of a trek for dinner, apart from the hotel opposite the site which does reasonable meals. I think my only gripe is that the site is quite pricey. We've stayed on sites which were cheaper and which have had proper shops, bars and restaurants and have also been clean and well spaced out. Apart from this I'd recommend the site.
