2019 stay at site

our first time stay at this site, for the simply reason that we were told that there were good cycle routes, we were well pleased, various routes took us to Lochearnhead, old railway and forest ways, the very quiet roads down Glen Lochay and the road to Auchlyne, good animal and bird life around, Red Deer, Red Squirrels, bird life to many to mention. Site was good with very friendly staff with good knowledge of the area, good places to eat out at, but can recommend the little chip van at the village hall, overall a great stay.

A little gem in a great location.

We had the pleasure of staying at Maragowan in Killin for 2 nights mid June and despite the inclement weather, we were absolutely delighted with the site and it's facilities. Great riverside pitches, spotlessly clean facilities and a laundry - always helpful when touring. The site is well placed to walk into the village which has decent pubs, an excellent Co-Op and a couple of good shops (hard wear, outdoor persutes etc). Having dogs, the dog walking is also excellent and easy. Thank you for a highly recommended stay.

Great Site

Stayed for a week June, unfortunately weather wasn’t too great but thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Hard standing pitch, toilets etc we couldn’t fault. Hope to return again next season and hopefully better weather.

Another pleasant stay in Killin

I stayed for a couple of nights at the end of May. The weather was terrible most of the time, but this is a lovely location whatever the weather, especially beside the river. The campsite was fairly busy, but the pitches are quite well spaced out, and there are large central grassy areas, so it didn't feel claustrophobic. It is mostly quiet, although there can be traffic noise from the adjacent road. All the usual Club facilities on site, well maintained and cleaned, with friendly and helpful wardens. There are some lovely walks in the immediate area, on the flat and up into the hills. Killin has a very good choice of places to eat and drink, including a few hotels and a "mobile" catering van (which does nice fish and chips, but doesn't look as if it has moved in years!). There is also a Co-op for groceries etc.

Great stop over ( we need to come back)

We had a 1 night stop over during our recent journey to the Highlands. the site is located in the lovely village of Killan and being next to the river and very close to the loch, allow for lovely walks. (Don't forget your midge hat). the site is open plan, very well maintained and the showers despite needing to be updated were very clean. Will defo be back for a longer stay. Worth getting up early for a walk to stumble across the local deer

Peaceful but close to amenities

We had travelled through some stunning scenery from Argyll and Bute to reach here, and then, just before the site, were the Falls of Dochart to pass by! An amazing site with breathtaking scenery from all angles. The wardens were very friendly and gave advice freely. The shower block was a little tired but spotless.

Great location and campsite

Staff were very freindly and helpful. Toilets showing there age now and could be upgraded. Staff kept them very clean. The only downside were fellow campers who constantly walked through your pitch to take a shortcut to where they wanted to go. Extremily annoying and no respect for the people pitched on there pitch that they paid good money for to enjoy.

6 Nights 8 May 2019

This was stop 5 on our multi-stop tour from Lincolnshire to Scotland (and back) with 6 nights here after a 2 hour drive from Bunree. The site sprawls along the banks of the river Lochay at the end of the village with snow-topped mountains making a dramatic backdrop. At times they are shrouded in mist creating a magical ever changing scene and in the evenings deer can be seen roaming along the other side of the river. During our stay we visited the Falls of Dochart Inn which was an absolutely charming place. We tried Shutters Restaurant and the Capercaillie for food with both offering good value. After an evening walk we called at the Coach House across from the site which is a very welcoming pub with real ale and great live entertainment at weekends. Also tried the Courie Inn which had decent beer but seemed to be the place where locals meet up to loudly shout and swear at each other over a drink. OK for a pint but didn't fancy trying to eat in that atmosphere. On the Sunday we had a lovely traditional roast lunch at the Bridge Of Lochay Hotel (recommend by the wardens) which gives 10% discount for club members. All of the above places that we visited in Killin provide free WiFi for their customers. Travelling further afield we visited Callander which was a nice place to look around and nearby Aberfoyle which has the Scottish Wool Center with large cafe and a pleasant river outlook. Things to entertain kids here too. At the far end of the loch is Aberfeldy with a few shops and Kenmore where we enjoyed a picnic on the loch side. Very nice. A very big thank you to the wardens for their help in extending our stay from the original 2 nights, we had asked several times if we could extend but it wasn't possible. Brent came over to our pitch on our last morning as we were winding the legs up to let us know of a cancellation. Ann made the booking changes and also ammended our arrival date at the next site on our round trip. Along with Ian and Barbara they make a great team who look after this site and it's visitors very well. Summary: A site which offers a peaceful stay in a pretty riverside location. The large central grass areas make it feel open and spacious. Definitely worth another visit. Next stop: Berwick Seaview
