Low Wensleydale

This is a lovely site, calm and peaceful with some pitches in the open and others in charming nooks. The ducks and rabbits added a lovely touch. We had a nice welcome from the wardens, who were always pleasant and helpful. The facilities were clean and in good working order. Leyburn is just a 15/20 minute walk away, and there is a great traditional pub only 300m from the site.  We really enjoyed our stay.

Lower Wensleydale addict

Returning in our motorhome for the second time in two months  (this time for the Leyburn 1940's weekend) we love Lower Wensleydale more than ever. Yes, the entry road is narrow - that's why the departure/arrival times are staggered. And the site is in an old quarry - that's why the pitches occur in different areas on different levels. But it has a wonderful feeling of calmness. Wake up to ducks and rabbits around the pitch, with the resident peacock strolling past. Take a walk to Leyburn to step back in time and take afternoon tea at one of the many cafés. Country walks abound - do check out the Harmby waterfall just 300 metres from the site. But our main accolade goes to the wardens and assistant wardens of the site. What delightful, and helpful people. They turned an enjoyable visit into a perfect one. Full marks to them, and to Lower Wensleydale site. We will definitely be back!

Overall, a good site

This was our first time at this site and we booked specifically for the 1940s weekend. Well placed for Leyburn and Yorkshire Dales. As per other comments, the approach is narrow so difficult if you meet another vehicle. Overall, a nice quiet site, we preferred the top level as we found it nice and open and more level pitches. Facilities a little dated but very clean. Site staff extremely helpful and pleasant. Only fly in the ointment were the minority of inconsiderate dog owners. One let a large dog leave a nice morning "present" next to the caravan next door to us - how bad is that! There should be a limit on the length of lead and any extendable leads should have to be locked to a normal lead length on site as some owners let their dogs run onto other pitches whilst walking past. We are not dog haters, quite the opposite as we used to have one, it's the minority of inconsiderate dog owners that are the problem.

Boot Camp

This has got to be the club site we have stayed on . It is not a very pretty site and the Toilet Block could do with updating. The staff are total Jobsworths and seem to delight in being as petty as possible A liitle comonsense would not go astray. By coincience we heard of someone there at the same time who thought exactly the same as us Rules are rules but these wardens are pathetic would not stop again

Excellent Stay

The Marshalls were extremely friendly and helpful.  The facilities were spotless and we had a lovely break/holiday The site is only a short walk from Leyburn with all its lovely attractions

Yorkshire charm!

We stay on this site every year for the vintage weekend. The staff are, without exception, friendly , helpful and knowledgeable about the local wildlife on the site. The toilet block is rather dated but there is lashings of hot water and they are immaculately clean! The peace and quiet at night is exceptional. The position of the site is great for walking into Leyburn. We always enjoy our stay here and would recommend it. I'm not sure how families with younger children would find the lack of 'play space' and facilities for children though.

Vintage weekend

We stayed on this site with friends in order to attend the vintage weekend in Leyburn.  We were able to walk in daily which was great having such easy access to village amenities.  The site was spacious and well tended.  I found the shower blocks a little dated and the cubicles small.  They closed each day, late morning for cleaning; my husbands timing was out every single day, which was amusing to us but not to him!!! Dog walking was a little difficult; once off the site it was roads without footpaths which was not ideal.  All in all we had a nice stay.

Happy days

We really enjoyed this site and the wardens deserve a special mention for their friendly approach, helpfulness and work to keep the place clean and tidy. The walk into Leyburn takes an easy 20 minutes and the town delivers all you could want in both shopping and eating.  There is plenty of “rambling” options straight from the site to other towns and villages, alternatively the local bus service will take you to Richmond, Bedale, Hawes etc……..if you can work out the timetable that is! The site was pretty quiet, even during a railway special “diesel” weekend, when more than the normal number of trains ran.  Most of the pitches are flat (some in the wooded area less so) and looked like they had recently had new hardcore spread on them.  As others have said, the approach road is narrow so it’s important for users of the site to stick to the arrival/departure times to reduce the likelihood to meeting someone coming the other way. We think this is a great site and will definitely return in future.

Excellent for tranquility

Our first time on Caravan club site and was not disappointed. The site was clean ,well kept and ideal for walking.Plenty of wildlife in the shape of ducks which greeted you each morning. The wardens were very polite , helpful  and knowledgeable of the surrounding areas       The showers , site  and toilets were clean and tidy , and the shop had basics , paper, milk and walking maps at a small price.        The approach road is very narrow with no passing places making it awkward when towing a caravan.        My wife and I are both pensioners who enjoy a quiet sites with plenty of walking in the surrounding areas. This was ideal for us and we will  return in the near future.        My only negative point was some of the plots for awnings were small and the internal roads were on the narrow side.

Wonderful welcome

We have just returned from a weekend at this site and I felt I had to leave a review about the Wardens . It was refreshing to have such a warm welcome by Wardens and we were offered advice and suggestions on good plots etc. We also noted that the Wardens did spend time walking around the site and they were all very friendly and approachable. We look forward to returning to this gem of a site soon.
