A Lovely Site in a good location

Lower Wensleydale is a lovely site and it was a lovely walk into Leyburn. We were disappointed though with the one shower block for the whole site. There didn't seem enough showers and I found the water was just look-warm. The wardens were very friendly and helpful. We had a nice pitch in a sunny position but found some campers a little noisy. Apart from this we had a lovely time.

Can't wait to visit again

Had a friendly welcome by the staff who recommended a nice sunny pitch.  The site was lovely and very relaxing.  Toilet/shower facilities were clean and tidy.  Fantastic location, plenty of things to do.  Looking forward to visit the site again.

Great base for the Dales, but the site feels tired.

This is an ideal site to explore the Dales, without towing up the narrow route to Hawes CC site, this give location gives many options for trips etc. Important to say the Wardens were very helpful and the facilities were clean.  The access was well described, so no problems there, but a mandatory no access for caravans before 12.00 would avoid some clashes.  This is not CC owned, but perhaps they should state neither are the pitches or facilities up to the usual CC standard.  Some pitches are laughably tight as 'Awning Pitches', we were able to move after a night and bag a better pitch as others left.  The trees were probably a great idea when the quarry was first landscaped, but now much of the site is gloomy and feels perpetually damp, and no, it was not a particularly wet week.  No wonder the duck roam about so happily! The toilet block is very old and tired, it is in need of a complete refit …. Or the wrecking ball !, but certainly the wardens do the best they can. Despite the above, we still relaxed well and loved the Dales.

Lovely peaceful five days

On arrival the Wardens were very friendly, efficient and welcoming. I had managed to leave a day off when I booked on line but they quickly sorted it out. The pitch was clean and tidy and the ground was in good condition despite the rain. Very pretty, relaxing site which is well kept. The facilities were very clean and tidy but please note caravan club you need to spend some money on updating them. Probably not ideal for teenagers but we would recommend the site and will definitely return.

Nice Site, please send the wardens on a customer service course

We stayed here in August 2015 - this is a pretty site with the ducks and rabbits wandering around and making lots of children smile. The wardens could have been a lot more friendly and were not helpful in the least, which left us with a bleak feeling right from the start of our stay. Don't approach from the north past the show fields, there is no signage to warn you about how narrow this road is and your sat nav will try to take you this route. Apparently it tells you this in the handbook (thank you wardens for getting really snotty and sarcastic about this but as explained, we had booked last minute and did not have our book with us). In hindsight you could have told us on the phone when we asked if there were any access issues. Why not put a sign up at the top of the lane advising people?  The pitches without awnings are very tight and God help you if you park your motorhome more than a couple of inches away from the peg. There is a walk along the main road into Leyburn but I would suggest using a car if you have young children. No other apparent walks direct from the site but a lovely area to explore in the car. Quite a lot of gunfire at night from the nearby ranges. Facilities were clean but very dated with plaster falling from the walls in the showers and taps difficult to turn on. Won't be returning!

Lovely stay

A lovely site with plenty of trees and ducks. Well maintained and toilet block spotless. Would definitely go again. 5 min drive (if that) from Leyburn.

wonderful for wildlife

Ducks to visit you in the morning. Moorhens, coots, rabbit and a peacock. Helpful friendly staff. Convenient location. Pity about the Ministry of Defence hooligans playing wargames overhead at taxpayers expense.

Delightfully quirky

A beautiful sight. A variety of pitches to suit everyone. Friendly, helpful and efficient wardens. Ducks were very amusing . The inn at Spennithorne is well worth a visit.

Quirky and different

We love this site, because its built in an old quarry the pitches are all at different levels across the site so you end up with secluded little spaces rather than one big field. For instance, if you had a group of 4 tents then there would be an area just for you so you wont be upsetting your neighbors who will be on a different level secluded by trees. The ducks are a major feature as-well, waddling around the site with their chicks before the resident peacock comes along and scares them off. There is a pub near by but they don't serve meals. beers good though. there are plenty of take aways and eating options in the village just a short drive or 30 mins walk away. The access in is tight but there are pull ins if you meet anyone coming.
