A great short break

A lovely site next to Longleat Safari Park. The staff were very welcoming and helpful and friendly. The facilities were lovely and clean though some of the ceiling tiles in our wash block were stained. Not a big deal really. It was great to hear the animals next door especially the sea lions. Perfectly located for exploring the surrounding area and in a quiet out of the way location. Perfect. I just want to make one point. We went to the reccomended Horse an Groom pub and were very disappointed. The staff unfriendly to the point of rudeness ignoring our arrival completely. I thought we had strayed into Rosyston Vasey. The pub on the main road was a much better bet. Not a site issue of course. Overall a fantastic site one of the best we have stayed at

Nice well run site

Well sign posted albeit, I can understand why there are restricted arrival/departure times. The road in and out could be a bit of an issue if times not adhered to.A welcoming smile awaits you on arrival by the staff. The site was spotless as were the facilities. Any information required on places to eat are answered by the staff running the site at the reception area. Horse and groom up the road is worth a visit, we did two nights running. Apple and pear cider, delicious and I dont really drink! Next door to Longleat Safari Park and takes 3 minutes to the park. No need for a car to get you there, nor bikes as its on the level. Never tried the WIFI as read previous reviews which stated that it was expensive and the signal was poor. I would add to this, that the signal is pretty much non existent. But we were told by staff that there was going to be fibre optic installed this year, but no time span given. As for the lions roaring, we never heard them at all in the three nights we stayed, but we did hear the Sea lions. Everyday !! All in all it was a pleasant stay and chippie on Friday evening at 6pm was tasty too. Asda about 3 miles away in Frome if needed and has a fuel station too. I recommend this site due to it being looked after and well run.

One of the best

Well signposted. Friendly welcome and staff always friendly no matter where you saw them. Site well maintained and clean. Large pitches. Shop very limited and expensive. Nice to hear the animal sounds towards the end of our week stay.

Longleat Park

Visited 06/04-09/04/2016 Site kept perfect, pitches good size, very clean and friendly wardens. We had no noise issue but could have been where we pitched. I see on previous reviews that you were previously able to use Longleat facilities with out entry fee. As we only had a few days there we purchased a ticket for 2 days and was mostly covered by this. However after trying the Horse and Groom (which was just fine), we wanted to try elsewhere and being restricted to walking or riding our bikes, (we have a large motor-home) our longleat guide suggested we walk through Longleat out through the main gate, walk to the Bath Arms which again was good. A discount can be used if you have a ticket for Longleat. We then, around 9.00pm walked back through Longleat it was quite beautiful. We were told if security stops us just to say we are staying in the camp site. The walk was easier then the Horse and Groom, distant wise about the same. I recommend this site and thought Longleat no better or worse in their prices. Yes I thought it was a bit mean re the fish food, but on par with most attractions now.

A backwards step??

Just returned from a 9 day stay at this site over the Easter period. To keep it to the point:

The Good - A well maintained site. Huge Pitches. Nice Park for children.

The Bad - Lots of unwelcome noise from Longleat Safari Park. Lots of mud due to previous inclement weather.

The Ugly - Previously you were able to walk in and out of the grounds. For us this was great as the children could play in the open park areas and you could use facilities like the coffee shop. This has now been stopped and entry is only allowed if you pay for a day pass. We did pay for the one day but to be fair once you have done the safari and the house there is not a lot much else to see, certainly not worth paying the £200+ price for a 5 day pass for example.

I spoke to a lot of people over the period of the stay and they all seemed to share this consensus. It seems a shame as previously it seemed like a bustling (in a good way) site but consequently ,even over the Easter period, seemed half empty. I wonder (through no fault of the Caravan Club) if the changes to Longleat Estate's rules and the inaccessibility of close walks will/are starting to have an adverse effect? Hope this helps!

Beautiful site in lovely location

The surrounding area is the best thing about this site. If you want lots of lovely scenery and you like long walks it will be ideal for you. Wardens very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Site is beautifully laid out and very well kept and clean. Ask at reception for a map of local walks and have a drink in an old pub called the Horse and Groom which is lovely. There is an on site fish and chip van which arrives some evenings but we didn't try it, but had a lovely Chinese from a takeaway in nearby Frome, where there is also an asda store. Great location for exploring we went to Stonehenge, Salisbury plain and Bath for days out. Only disappointment is that dogs are not allowed in the area surrounding longleat safari park.

A Really nice site

We stayed here for 3 nights over the Easter break. The site was really lovely - clean, spacious and friendly. We really enjoyed being there. The children absolutely loved it! Upon arrival a very friendly young lad advised us not to park up near the Safari Park end of the site due to the morning noise of the recycling bins being emptied - we really appreciate his advise! Longleat Safari Park itself was a bit of an expensive disappointment. It felt very commercial and they took every opportunity to eek out that extra bit of money from you (e.g. £1 fish pots to feed the seals!). It would have been really lovely to visit the grounds in the evening but you needed a day pass and it closed at 6pm (which felt a little early when the sun was shining!). Nearby Stourbridge (National Trust) was a lovely day out. We would love to visit the site again, but have been a little put off by the Safari Park not being as good as we had hoped.

Superb Site

We visited the site over the Easter break for 7 nights. This is an excellent site with great facilities. Really great for kids and of course visiting Longleaf itself, although as many has already stated, Longleat is very expensive so would be great there was someway of the Caravan Club getting a discount of some sort - although it should be noted that you can get discount vouchers for food and at the shop which come in handy. The wardens were excellent and very helpful. The site was always clean even with the rain we had for the first couple of days. The play park, outdoor chess and an area to kick a football were brilliant. The games room is a massive bonus and my children loved it. Shame that some older children who were generally unpleasant in the children play park too, decided to poke holes in the ceiling with the pool cues, damage the walls with the mural on and break a picture - unfortunately there are always the few who spoil it for the many. One hopes that the culprits have been identified and had their membership removed. Visiting Longleat is easy and we made the most of the location by having a two day ticket. Walking in made the process really easy and after we drove round the safari park, we drove back to the site, parked our car and walked back in, saving us from the very busy roads at leaving time. Overall, we loved this site and will be going back next year with other family members.

A gem of a site

Arrived Easter Monday was surprised site was not full being that children were on Easter holiday. Maybe the cost of site and Safari Park fees may have had something to do with it. Site location and the wardens make it a gem of a place to be. Used to be able to walk into the some of the park locations for coffee or a snack,but not anymore without a day pass. I'm sure the park is missing out there. In and out of the site was no problem but could be a bit difficult if you meet a late leaver, so take it easy. Even though my wife and I are in our 70s we still went on everything in the park. So good for all just enjoy it's so convenient. Happy Days.

Great site

We enjoyed our stay at the site - great for visiting Stonehenge and Bath. The facilities were perfect, as found in most Club Sites we have used. The wardens were really helpful, especially as my husband lost his wedding ring on site. After leaving our details, we received a phone call a few days later and the ring has been returned. Many thanks to all wardens involved and the honest people who found the ring. We will definitely stay here again. We were disappointed at the cost to enter Longleat Safari Park and felt that the caravan site should be allowed access into the grounds or a better entry package. We wanted to walk around the gardens in the evening but we're not allowed access. It appeared that the Club Site and the safari Park are very separate areas with marked fences separating them. You can book tickets online with a 15% discount. However, it was diificult to book online due to lack of an internet signal and found it to be very costly for a family of 4. A better idea would be for the club site office to have a discount voucher which you hand in to the safari park.
