We stayed for two nights en route from Essex to Scotland.
Lovely secluded glades separate the areas. Lots of trees which blocked sun but beautiful and picturesque site with running river through the site - our dog loved it.
Spotlessly clean facilities and we never queued for toilets or showers.
A great stop over site. Would definitely recommend.
Our very helpful neighbour kindly helped us out with a water pump as ours didn't work.... Thank you!
woodland heaven
I disagree with some recent reviews. This is a beautiful site. It is like being in the middle of a forest, with most pitches separated into little woodland glades. There were only four other caravans where we were and we couldn't see anyone else till we drove or walked out of the site. It was hard to believe there were so many other campers, it was so peaceful. Yes, we did have a bit of a walk to the toilets but it was a very pretty stroll. I would say, if you don't like trees, don't come here! But if you enjoy a pleasant, shady walk along the river to the nearest pub, through wonderful countryside then this is for you!

Disappointing site
This large site is built into the side of a hill and therefore it is not flat. Unless you know the geography of the place it is rather complicated to find a suitable pitch. The lower part of the site is in woodland and quite oppresive and little sunshine gets through. The upper reaches are more open but are situated a fair distance from the toilet blocks. A lot of pitches are surrounded by nettles and ferns and little has been done to smarten the place up,(probably National Trust policy). However the wardens are extemely friendly and helpful and the facilities are up to a high standard. On the whole we were disappointed with this site and, regretably, we will not be returning.

Over rated
We stayed at Kendal recently and we have to say that we were under whelmed. Whilst the woodland is lovely, it's narrow lanes and crowded pitches were a real pain. The road leading out were far too narrow and you find yourself risking a collision either with the woods or another vehicle. Very enclosed and fussy. Noises at the week ends also. We won't be going back. Sorry
Lovely site
We arrived on Saturday and were welcomed by the friendly wardens. Booking in was fast and easy and we were given a map and advice on pitches. The site was extremely busy, in fact it was due to be full that night, so we drove round trying to find a pitch with a good amount of daylight but most of these had gone. Eventually on our second drive round we spotted a lovely isolated pitch in a little group of 5 pitches. The setting is beautiful but in my opinion just a bit too overgrown. Some of the pitches were in darkness all day! Water and waste was right beside our little corner so extremely handy for refilling and emptying. The toilet block was quite a walk away but this didn't bother us, except the day it poured! The toilets were spotless and the showers were fantastic. The shop was well stocked and the cream tea offer was amazing!
The wardens gave my son his explorer book and sent us off on a trail. When finished he returned to get his prize and a pat of the gorgeous resident border terrier! The wardens made my son so welcome but we still come away feeling that other members give him disapproving looks for daring to play which is a shame, these 7 year olds could one day be the lifeblood of your club!
Kendal Club site is perfectly positioned for exploring or just relaxing and watching the world go by, with some more coppicing it could be the perfect site. We will definitely return.
Nice site, just a few drawbacks
This is a lovely site, with pitches scattered in woodland clearings. It is convenient for Sizergh Castle, the excellent Strickland Arms, Kendal and the southern lakes.
On the whole it was very peaceful, the low score for peace and quiet is because of a number of yapping dogs and the way the wardens got the strimmer and leaf blower out every time the sun shone.
My only other reservations are that, from most pitches, it is a very long walk to the (superbly clean) toilet blocks (also a bit short of WC provision in the gents in block A); the surface of the access road is very poor and threatens to throw everything out of the lockers; and finally, it is plagued by sets of staggered speed bumps - we had to drive over 5 sets to leave the site, at least 2 of them triggering the ATC and, on one occasion, stalling my 180BHP diesel engine even though I was proceeding VERY slowly.
Back Again
Just returned from our 4th trip to this site this year already. We have been visiting here for best part of 30 years and remains our favourite of all the cc sites.
This year the wardens are better than ever, and we've already booked for September!
A couple of points though, it is such a shame the cc have decided to change its name from the original Low Park Wood to plain Kendal, it doesn't do it justice, and I so wish they had seasonal pitches as Id be first in the queue!
Yes it is very wooded but that just adds to the magic of the place.
Admittedly quite a few are hard to get into especially if you have no motor mover, and many would benefit from levelling out with extra hardcore as they fall away quite badly and even the hardest of rock pegs get bent badly, it will never prevent us from remaining regulars though!
see you again in 7 weeks
Funny how tastes change!
Many years ago when we were working this site was our go to site when visiting the lakes, usually at Easter and for a weeks holiday in Autumn. Loved it. Our dog had plenty of room on the numerous dog walks to run free and many a time we've walked to Sedgemoor or Kendal along the river Kent. The quirkiness of the pitching arrangements also held appeal with nooks and crannies to place oneself.
All these things still exist but on a one night stop recently we found that nearly all of the pitches had too much greenery around it and particularly overhanging them. As it has been known to rain on the odd occasion in the Lakes one finds a constant dripping to be annoying. Why isn't this stuff cleared from overhead? In addition the proliferation of trees gave a claustrophobic feel to the site. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing trees and shrubs on CC sites but this site had too many, for us anyway. I'm sure full sunshine would find it difficult to break through certain areas of the site. In addition a lot of pitches are not flat and are awkwardly placed.
All the usual amenities are catered for and of course the Lakes are sublime but like all CC sites in the Lakes you are sited on the edge and have to travel to get into the heart of them. I'm sure many members will find no fault with the site as we once did but we'll be stopping elsewhere, probably on a CL, next time we want a quick stopover when travelling on the M6.
Visit to Lake District
This site was handy for visiting the Lake District. I'm not keen on hard-standing pitches though as it is harder to peg down the awning and requires steel awning pegs. However, the wardens were very helpful and could recommend some nice walks around the site with leaflets and maps available from reception. It had a lovely forest feel about it and the trees can help provide shade in hot weather. A very pretty site.
Perfect peace.
We can't rate this site highly enough, both the staff and the site were excellent. After arriving on the back of a recovery truck the staff found a good pitch for the driver to drop us off at and were there ready to help us set up and sort everything out with recommendations for a very reasonable gent who came out and fixed our van with no fuss. The facilities were good although we can't really say how good it is for families as we don't have kids. I must add that it is on a hillside which is not obvious on the maps but we loved our little shady spot under the trees. We will be returning at some point in the future.
