We visited this site last weekend for 2 nights. Although it is under the trees we had no complaints about the pitch (thought there would be lots of midges but didnt notice any). The facilities were very clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. It is a great site for dogs as there is a river and woods by the site (our springer loved it). There is also a nice easy walk by the river (about 3 - 4 miles) into Kendal, we then got a taxi back at a very reasonable rate which was recommended by the site staff. We will go here again
To be honest, we only booked into this site because it was close to the M6 and a good stopover on our way back to Scotland - but what a surprise! It's a wee gem! Immaculately clean with friendly helpful wardens and a handy on site shop for morning papers and other essentials. Pitches are in small enclosures dotted throughout the woods. There are wonderful dog walks direct from the site - details and maps available in the shop. Fish and chip van visits on Fridays - not to be missed - best fish supper in ages! Definitely will be returning - next time for a longer stay.
This site has been our favourite for the past 15 years - one that we visit at least twice a year. We returned home a couple of days ago and feel we have to make a comment about - dogs. We are not against dogs, we have had a dog for the past 40 years, but why do people take six dogs with them on a site. We saw families with 6 dogs 5 dogs 4 dogs and the norm was 3 dogs. There was even someone there with a ferret on a lead. Why dont the caravan club charge for taking more than two dogs on sites to contribute towards the cleaning up of dog mess on the dog walks. All these dogs are urinating all over the verges which is not healthy for little ones. I repeat we are not against dogs but allowing families to take upto 6 dogs is rediculous, let alone a ferret - what next we ask!!
We stayed here for two nights and loved it so much we have booked for another visit. The site is in the woods and has a lovely peaceful feel to it. Nice walks along the river and up to Sizergh Castle. Staff were friendly and helpful. Thie toilets and showers were spotlessly clean and the site is very well kept. Great site for us and our dog.
All caravan club sites we have visited have been nice, but I must say the wardens here at Kendal were the most helpful and friendly we have known. Would definitely visit again.
We don't live far from the Kendal Club Site. So it's great for a quick getaway. On arrival we were met by friendly helpful staff. Our children played for hours by the river and found the Gun powder ruins fascinating. The toilet blocks were immaculate.
This site is quite large but due to its layout you do not get the sense of being in a large camping community. The layout is of groups of pitches in copses around the National Trust Wood area. This also means that you do not get a lot of traffic past your pitch as there are various routes around the site.
The pitches themselves are well serviced but are probably the smallest I have come across (for awning pitches anyway). We have a T5 & Vango Kela and this really pushes the width limits of this site. It fits, (just!) but if you are late you may get one of the smaller awning pitches which could be a problem.
The site facilities are excellent and well kept and the environment is just stunning, lots of trees and birds and a real feel of being close to nature.
The road in is single track with passing places. As a result departures and arrivals are strictly managed to avoid large units passing. Everybody is required to leave by 12 on day of departure, no exceptions.
Nearby there is a good Farm Shop and the Strickland Arms pub both about 20 mins walk away and both worth going to.
We've been before and will return. This is a nice site
Having just returned home I feel I must write this if to do nothing else other than to thank the two lady wardens who helped us relocate when my wife was feeling a little closed in on our original pitch. We were thinking of moving to another site but they persuaded us to stay and found us a much better open pitch next day.
Their helpfulness and cheerfulness went well above the call of duty, congratulations to you all, and many thanks for an enjoyable stay.
This is one of our favourite CC sites. We spent two days here last week taking our little Topaz out for its final run before we get our new van next week.
Our pitch was in one of the areas at the back with direct access to a footpath through the woods. The coppicing that has taken place has made it lighter without spoiling the overall feel of being in the middle of the wood. Lots of walks from here, across the river and along the bank, or along the path on the near side of the river at the far end of the site until you reach the 'private' sign; wardens told us we could still go through the gate and continue if wished.
The best walk we had was along the path at the corner of our area, up the hill and through the clearing with wild flowers, out of the woods and left through the field to the farm shop. You can return via the farm walk, past the hens and round edge of fields to come out near the site entrance.
Spotlessly clean and extremely friendly and helpful wardens, a perfect mini break
lovely and peaceful site, loads of walks, the dogs loved it swimming in the shallow river nearby, the wardens are very friendly and helpful, and the little shop is very well stocked, and they do a great cream tea. All the pubs around are very dog friendly, our favourite pub was the Wheatsheaf in the little hamlet of Brigsteer, just 4 miles from the site, the Stricklands pub is also very nice, just a short walk from the site, and members get a 10% discount, we will be revisiting as its a great site and easy motoring to the lakes.
