A gem of a site

Just back from our second visit to this site vowing to make many more. A large site but thanks to it's location and good planning you feel secluded wherever you pitch. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the site is ideally located for exploring the area. The information area is remarkably well organised and even features ideas and projects to keep the young ones occupied. Cream teas available from reception are very good value (we even bought some to bring home) and there's even the added bonus of an excellent fish & chip van on Friday night. All in all a great visit and we'll certainly be back

Helpful Wardens

Got stuck on Motorway for six hours behind an exploding LPG tanker. Phoned the site and warden extremely helpful and sympathetic. Used the late arrivals point. Not easy to find the right track in the mist and dark and not able to see the arrows at the bottom of the information board and so went the wrong way initially.

Good location for South Lakes

We have stayed here many times, including when it was Low Park Wood. We have seen a change in the site since it has been named Kendal. The wardens are good, but are very officious and lack the personal touch that we always received from Maureen and Phil. We used to like the fact that the different areas of the site had names such as Hazel Bay and The Glade - it made it easier to remember where your favourite pitches were - but these have been removed now. Many of the trees have been cut down, which is a bonus in some respects as some pitches now get more sun, but it has also detracted from the site. The road leading to the site is very narrow and therefore a 12 noon arrivals policy is in place. On numerous occasions now though, we have seen people arrive much earlier than this and be given a pitch, which is annoying for those of us who play by the rules. Another bone of contention is that people take forever to return to reception to inform them of their pitch number. This means that when you arrive, it looks like pitches are free when in fact they are not and you can end up in some tight cul-de-sacs if you're not careful - wardens should ask people to return to reception ASAP after finding a pitch. The site is ideally located for exploring Kendal and the South Lakes and there are some lovely walks straight from the site. The play area isn't great, but we tend to walk to the park in Sedgwick as it's usually deserted. It is a quiet site, but there is some road noise from the dual carriageway. Asda is very close by if you go through Sedgwick and out towards Kendal. There is also a Morrisons in Kendal where on a weekday kids eat free and you get 2 adult meals for £9 - not a la carte by any stretch but adequate! The toilets are clean and the site has never been so busy that we haven't been able to get a shower when we want. I wouldn't pay the extra for a serviced pitch as I think the non-serviced ones offer more space. The last time we went the wardens had allocated us a pitch, but we politely declined as there are a number of pitches that we know we like! Overall, the site is lovely and is in a very good location for Kendal, Cartmel, Grange and even Ambleside, Windermere and Grasmere.

convenient, peaceful location

We stayed a few days on this site on our way North to Scotland. We chose it because it is very convenient from the M6. The site is close to the river in a wood with undulating roadways and level gravel pitches set in small groups. It is quiet and picturesque with interesting local walks. We cycled to the nearby national trust property at Sizergh which was an excellent visit. The wardens were welcoming and we enjoyed our stay so much that we returned a week later to break our journey home.

Kendal Haven

This is the first official caravan club site we have stayed at, let me start by saying this is a lovely site! The wardens are fantastic! Very welcoming and helpful. The site is quite big and this is where it lies with the only problem, there are only 2 toilets block, which means a little walk if you are near the top end of the site. (Something to consider if you have young ones) The site is very nice and quite, unfortunately for us it rained every day we were there but still a nice area to explore. You must visit the local pub which the meals are fantastic! Great site, lovely and helpful wardens

Beautiful location

I arrived here in heavy rain for a five night stay, the wardens were very pleasant and helpful. The site was beautiful even in the bad weather. I drove around the site until I found a nice quiet pitch, but as I was going back to reception to tell them which pitch I was on I became disoriented, which wasn't helped by the heavy rain! There were no signs for reception and I met a man who was also lost. Anyway I eventually found it by just wandering but unfortunately I was soaked to the skin by then! So I think a few signs would be very helpful for anyone visiting the site for the first time. The weather got better soon after that and I found lots of nice walks. The walk to kendal along the riverside was lovely (about 4 mile) where the K centre allows dogs. The local farm shop and pub are only about 20 minutes away. I came across the entrance to Sizergh castle which has a sign saying that the national trust welcomes dogs, however after I had walked up the long road to get there, dogs are not allowed in the castle or the gardens! All in all a very pleasant stay at kendal and I will probably return at some point.

Favourite Site

We have stayed here at the Easter break year on year and we will be booking again. Lovely kept site , spotlessly clean toilets and amenities, set in a disused gun powder works /quarry, it has everything you would want from the amazing walks along the river to a walk to the pub or a car 5 minute journey to Kendal. The kids love it here, and always make friends , make dens and so on, we don't see them as they are always out playing! The one down side to this site is the access via a narrow road, but if you time it right and after 12 noon you wont have issues. The chippy van is good too and is quite reasonable for prices - Booking again as soon as I can!

Quiet Site

This was a beautiful quiet site, nice to walk round in the evening but hilly in places. The road to the site is narrow and in need of repair. The wardens were very friendly and the information helpful. Had a lovely day on Lake Windermere with a train ride and visit to Motor museum and in one price about £22 each was out all day. The site has lovely small areas but do be careful if you want sun as it is surrounded by trees. a very peaceful site for a well earned rest.

Arrival at site is via a single track road which does have passing points but there are a couple of blind bends where someone would have to reverse to a passing point. We met a member departing around 1 pm and it was tight even at the passing place, therefore be conciderate and make sure you depart before noon! The warders are lovely people and very friendly, the toilet blocks are immaculate but an extra loo in the mens would not go amiss on a morning during peak demand. The site routes may be intimidating to a novice caravaner as there are lots of overhanging trees and the roads are narrow. Take the warders advice and nip out of your vehicle to check out available pitches as some cul-de-sacs would be a nightmare to turn around in or worse reversing back onto the main access road. The site is mainly under tree canopies and can be rather dark in places but there are clearings which are nice and bright. The nearest pub is 20 minutes walk away and is very dog friendly as well as extending the set price lunch menu to an evening for CC members.
