This is a beautiful site and ideal as a base for viewing the rest of the Lake Ditrict. Well maintained with warm friendly staff it's Ideal for dogs for walks both within the site and surrounding areas, also great letting them swim in the River Kent.
A truly amazing site
Although we only stayed for 1 night I was amazed by the size of the site although you would think there where only a few people using the site because it was spread out in a forest ,the only downside I found was the childrens playground left a bit to be desired otherwise everything else on the site was excellent and would certainly be using this site again just for the peace and quiet
A proper site
This is what camping is all about. Plenty of pitches all tucked away in little groups in a hardwood forest. Privacy assured. Good facilities, pitches on hard gravel. Plenty of walks direct from site with a farm trail to Sizeberg Farm shop. There is a local bus service to Kendal not far away. The access road could do with some repairs. Excellent information room with take away details. Fish & Chip on Fridays.
The perfect site
We have just spent our first time at this site and will certainly be returning. It is clean, well kept with friendly and helpful staff. It is ideally positioned to visit most of the Lakes. The pitches are all surrounded by trees giving a feeling of privacy and space even when full. The local farm shop serves good food and is well stocked with provisions and gifts. This is an ideal site if you enjoy walking or cycling and is perfect for dogs.
Top class site
The wardens on take great pride in this site. It is kept immaculately clean from shower blocks to roadways. They are, and rightly so, very proud of this site. There is a well stocked shop and newspapers are delivered daily. There are lots of good walks from the site so, if you are a walker, no car is required to get to the walks. It is a short car ride into Kendal which is about 4 miles away. The site is within a wood and this can make it a bit noisy on the caravan roof when it rains. It is a tranquil site with lots of wildlife, not much for children to do, there is a play area but not much in it. Best eating place we think is the Two Sisters Café within the Plumgarths farm shop complex on the road to Kendal. Well worth a try.
Lovely site
Only had one night here on return home from Scotland but will definitely go back. Lovely woodland setting. Very peaceful.
Lovely Kendal
We love Kendal, but this was our first time there for a winter weekend. We arrived around 7 as it was getting dark and the site was very full, so there were almost no free pitches suitable for our large, heavy caravan with no motor mover and the turning circle of a tanker. Wardens amazingly helpful and got us sorted on a coned off large pitch. Had fish and chips from the chip van (very good, although we were ready for them after pitchgate). Did a fabulous walk on Saturday around the Kentmere Horseshoe in glorious sunshine, you just can't beat the Lakes. Facilities were great, location is stunning, we will just need to maintain a state of zen calm when siting "the beast" in the dark. Get there early if you can!
Just as good on our return visit
This was our second visit to this site which is in an ideal location for either the Lakes or the Dales. Last time we explored the Lake District, but this time went into the Yorkshire Dales each day. We enjoyed the the woodland paths on our early morning dog walks, the wardens are extremely helpful and the whole site is kept spotless.
One negative point is the road humps (as mentioned in another review). One other downside was the lighting leading from the one loo block late at night. I was returning from the block at 10pm, and I had foolishly forgotten to take a torch. One of the lights on a junction of the paths was not working and I somehow managed to go down the wrong track. It took me about 10 minutes to get my bearings, but for a woman, in a dark wood, in total darkness, at 10pm it was quite scary! I reported the faulty light to a warden the following warden who promised it would be fixed.

Blasted road humps!
Kendal. Fantastic site, fantastic staff, fantastic facilities. Brilliant walks for the dog and wonderful photo opportunities. Just Fantastic apart from the road humps/sleeping policemen. They are the worst we have ever encountered on any site. I apologise to the queue that built up behind me when we left but there was no way other than to crawl over the blasted things. On the way in the van jumped over the first set which gave me a clue. I was doing no more than 5 to 7 mph. When we opened the van the fire alarm has fallen off the wall, three lockers were open (they had been firmly shut) and the cover over the sink was on the floor. They are too high and far too many of them. I appreciate that speeds need to be low but these things cause damage. Please review their siting.

Peace and quiet!
It was our first visit, and it was excellent! Staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. We chose a nice spot in a clearing. Excellent fish and chips on the Friday evening! We enjoyed our walks down by the riverside, watching the heron, dippers and a quick glimpse of a kingfisher! The only minor downside (nothing to do with the site), was that there was no pub in the local village! We will certainly be back next year!
