One of the best kept sites in Britain

Stayed here with our three boys (7, 5 and 1) and they loved the site.  Lots to see and explore, being built around the ruins of a pre WW2 gunpowder factory - I found the history pamphlet which you could borrow from the site office particularly interesting.  Well stocked information room and very friendly and helpful site staff.  Washrooms immaculate - good powerful hot showers.  Basic site shop with essentials to hand and range of sweet treats for the children.  Lots of easy walks from the site - Sizergh Castle being highly recommended.  Wardens did a great job of keeping the leaves off the roads and were regularly seen with their blowers.  Site is heavily wooded which does restrict sunlight somewhat to some pitches.  However, setting is beautiful and we will definitely be coming back.

Top marks to warden team.

I have stayed on this site quite a few times and I really like it. Great location, good walks, interesting history and good pub nearby.  I felt the urge to write a review to complement the team of wardens who on their last weekend of the year pulled out all the stops to make Halloween such a successful family event. They also allowed a late departure on the following day which was well appreciated by many. (I know this cannot be the norm due to access difficulties). Well done to all.

First time away, new to caravanning!

We chose this site on recommendation from a friend as a good place to go on a first trip. Only 1 hour from home, motorway most of the way and easy access it was a good choice to try things out and get used to our van. We enjoyed being there at Halloween and found everyone friendly and helpful. We have a couple of walks still to do from the site so will be back.

New caravan on trial

We picked half term by accident but despite the site being busy we were directed to a pitch where it was quiet and away from the play areas. We have a large old Newfoundland and a young active Retriever. This site offered great and easy walking catering for both dogs including woodland drives and river walks....the latter leading to two very wet dogs. All the Wardens were extremely friendly and helpful despite being very busy. This being a wooded site meant a lot of work for them clearing leaves. The facilities were clean and well looked after and the drying room extremely useful for wet walking clothes and dog beds! A site worth visiting if you love wooded sites or have dogs.

A half term break at Kendal caravan park

What a brilliant site. A lovely wooded area with casual and unobtrusive pitches dotted throughout the site. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The loo's, showers and washrooms are spotless and plentiful. Good pot wash/laundry facilities too.   The information room is a treasure trove. Lots of hard work has gone into providing loads of info....local attractions, eateries, transport links etc. Bags of leaflets to browse thru. Good play area for kids.  Yes, it's on the river Kent- which is beautiful but there is no coarse fishing and as far as I know none locally either. Okay if you're into fly fishing though (During season of course). The sites a bit hilly which makes it picturesque but a challenge if you're not too good on your pins. We loved it and that despite the persistent rain. Can highly recommend.

Absolutely love this site

Just returned from a five night stay during October half term. The staff are really friendly and helpful and can't do enough for you. There were plenty of activities for Halloween with the majority of visitors taking part which was great for our daughter. The nearby Strickland Arms was recommended by the site staff and was fantastic. We visit this site every year as the setting and location at this time of the year is just brilliant. We really do love this site and a big thank you to the owners and staff for a great holiday.

Quiet Site

A beautiful, quiet site except for the falling twigs and acorns onto the roof! I imagine this to be a fantastic site in spring and summer but take care where you park your caravan if visiting in autumn. Facilities clean. Fantastic walks from the site through the woods or along the river.

Beautiful Site

We've just returned from a week at this site with our kids for half term and our dog. We absolutely loved the site and at this time of the year the different colours of the leaves were beautiful. The wardens as always were very friendly and helpful and maintained the site extremely well (always out clearing the roads of the leaves). The kids had a fantastic time playing on the park and exploring in the woods and making dens, it was great going down to the river. Very easy access and near to the rest of the sights of the lakes. The fish and chips from the van on Friday night were yummy. I would def advise to pack some levellers as i would imagine a few of the pitches will need them... we was glad we had ours. Lovely site, enjoyed every minute of our holiday and defiantly on the list for one to come back to again.
