Good for families

Lovely site however not the warmest of welcomes.

Having recently returned from a four day stay at the Hawes Club site we wanted to take the opportunity to share our review. The site is in an ideal location within walking distance of Hawes which has many interesting shops, plenty places to eat. The surrounding area has lots to offer walkers, cyclists and anyone just wanting to enjoy the beautiful scenery. The site is well presented and the facilities were very clean despite the inclement weather. The pitches are well spaced and again very tidy. You certainly need steel pegs if putting up an awning but that is highlighted on the site information on line and in the handbook. We arrived at the site 25 minutes before the official arrival time and parked in the long driveway to the site in front of a temporary sign advising new arrivals where to wait. The office was closed and had a sign advising that it was closed due to toilet cleaning and that it would reopen at 11:45. We took the opportunity to walk around the site to look at the available pitches. As we walked back to the office we were approached by one of the wardens who asked us in a very abrupt manner could he help us. We answered that we were new arrivals and were waiting for the office to open. He then went on to ask did we know the earliest arrival time ,somewhat stunned we replied yes we did but it was not always easy to time arrivals. We were then advised “that’s what sat navs are for” and “that if 68 caravaners all took it upon themselves to arrive half an early the whole of the town would congested and the police would be involved.” Whilst we did not argue at the time surely in the unlikely event that 68 units arrived at 12:00 the ensuing chaos would be the same! As our faces became somewhat set he did assure us that he told everyone who arrived early the same thing. We are fairly sure that we did not cause any inconvenience to anyone but if early arrival is such a problem then surely there needs to be a note in the site information to that effect. Certainly the way the information is delivered needs to be reviewed as it made for less than a warm welcome to Yorkshire. Later in our stay we had a minor medical emergency but did not feel comfortable seeking any help or advice from the wardens. We would not like to put off anyone off staying at this otherwise lovely site....just don’t arrive early.

I totally understand the comments people have made about arriving early and I'm sure that the members in question have taken onboard the reasons why it is important not to arrive early. But manners cost nothing and the wardens should be professional in their approach to customers and certainly not aggressive. If they cannot do so then they are in the wrong job!

I am there in a couple of weeks and while I will ensure that I do not arrive early if I am met with rude wardens they will certainly be told.

It is such a shame because the club have so many wardens who go the extra mile for members.

These people are obviously not the only ones to receive this treatment from this warden.
