a good old fashioned site - great

Like all the previous reviewers we found it very quiet and very well maintained by very friendly wardens. Good for walkers and there are some lovely drives if that floats your boat. Powis Castle is almost a must. The view over the reservoir quite spectacular, take a picnic !! The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways are an hours drive from the site but it's good roads, again quiet and beautiful. The bird life on site is varied and encouraged again by our wardens. A great deal on pricing too !!

Llanbrynmair

Once our favourite site - in the days of wardens Beryl and Dave. We used to spend countless hours in the hide at the back of the site, watching multiple woodpeckers, jays and pied flycatchers, fledgling nuthatches, etc. But alas no more, the bird watching facility has all but gone - why? Only a faded bird recognition chart survives - not even a seat in the dilapidated hide. The inevitable rain did nothing to lift our depression, we couldn't even shelter in the hide. Where are B + D now when you need them?! Could the club PLEASE resurrect this facility? Nothing against the current wardens though, very pleasant and friendly - as you would expect from Lancashire!

Walking holiday

We keep coming back, it is always peaceful! Walking is great, try up the hill from the site when you reach the entrance to the woods just over the top of the hill, it's a bit of a climb! Turn right through two gates into the Christmas trees, follow the track to the top. Then go out out of the woods onto the ridge walk through the sheep fields, follow this along until you come back down to the road and turn left keep on road back to the campsite. Also look up the source of the Severn it's always a good walk Pitches 7&8 are great! we'll be back

Great for peace and quiet!

This was our very first trip in our very first motorhome.  The site is tucked away in beautiful woods and countryside.  Very little light pollution meant the sky was magnificent at night, and bird feeders dotted about ensured plenty of winged activity. The facilities for fresh water, waste water, and general rubbish were excellent...several stations are placed around the site so you're never more than a couple of minutes away, which we found very convenient.  There are no toilets or showers on this site, but an on-board wet-room mean this wasn't really an issue. For us, the only down side to this beautiful place was that it nestles in a hilly valley, and there is no TV service (I think you may have received two channels if you were near the site office at the bottom of the hill) and no phone service.  We had gone equipped with various pieces of technology, which meant we could access our Amazon and Netflix account on our new Avtex telly...but only if we could get a decent phone coverage and convert to Wi-Fi.  So, sadly, we had no live entertainment here... but we'd taken a few DVDs along just in case, so we could at least watch something in the evenings. The wardens were super friendly and helpful, and offered lots of advice to us newbies...including how to park the van correctly, so it lined up with the marker.  Won't be making that mistake again! Overall, this is a little gem, if you want solitude and picturesque walks...couldn't fault it at all.  For us, though, I think we'll make sure we have a few more services at our next site...being cut off from the world of technology was just a little too scary!

Lovely Spot!

We stayed here for 10 days with our 2 children (aged 3 and 5). The site has lovely views as pitches are terraced. It's VERY quiet and peaceful here. There are LOADS of birds on site. We placed our portable feeders by the Caravan and were graced with numerous visitors! Nuthatches, coal tits, blue tits, chaffinches and even a woodpecker... I needed to stock up our seed supplies mid week as the feeders needed topping up twice a day! This is a lovely site and we loved our holiday here. Sadly the weather in this valley is very wet! But we just headed to the coast for the day and there was glorious sunshine there.... It didn't matter to us but we had NO TV all week as no digital here and we don't have SKY. But we just talked, read books, watched DVDs so wasn't an issue. The only thing we missed was being able to check forecast to make plans. A wifi or mobile phone reception would have been useful, but due to location it's understandable why it's not there. All in all we had a lovely holiday and would recommend to others if you want to be cut off from the world and have peace and quiet!

Lovely well kept site

As we arrived after office hours, the wardens had left information in the window to make it easy for us to find our pitch.  The wardens are very friendly & helpful, the site is terraced with water, chemical waste point etc on each level. We picked this site as there is very little light pollution which makes fantastic star gazing.

You need a car

I travelled here alone at the start of August, looking for peace and quiet and some good cycling and walking. When I arrived, the wardens were extremely helpful and had marked a pitch for my large motorhome. The site is very well kept and there is an excellent dog walk on site, running through woodland and by the side of a stream. There are some lovely, quiet grass pitches in the annex to the site across the lane, but these were unfortunately not in use during my stay due to the amount of rain.  You really do need a car if you stay here. I couldn't find most of the footpaths marked nearby on the OS map and cycling was physically tough around the many steep, single-track lanes near the site. Nonetheless, the scenery was beautiful and this was worth the effort. Other members were out and about every day. Apparently the red kite feeding is spectacular and you can park on the sandy beach at Borth. Would I visit again? Yes, but not without a car. My attempts to hire one in Newtown were unsuccessful.

Tranquil Site

Great little site and staff very friendly. Loads of birds and feeders and felt like you were in the woods. Our only real criticism is we were informed that although recycling bins provided they did not go to recycling which we found very strange and unacceptable given there are recycling facilities in nearby towns.

Gwern y bwlch

This was a nice quiet site in thd heart of Wales. If you dont mind a drive in this beautiful countryside then there are some lovely places to visit. Take a trip to Snowdonia and if you cant get up the mountain take the Lakeside train and pack a picnic as you get dropped off and then picked up later. Take the time to visit the Slate Museum, its free!! King Arthurs Labyrinth and The Bards Quest are good for both adults and children alike. The site is clean with stunning views all around and hard standing as well as grass. It is also on several different heights giving better views.

Rude reception

We had stayed at the site previously and fed ; admired and photographed the amazing birds. After a gruelling drive across Ireland and then through Wales up from Pembroke Ferry port, we looked forward to a comforting spot to rest up. All was shuttered up, reasonable at 18.15, but rather than rudely take a pitch, I first sought an "ok" from the warden. I was loudly reprimanded in public. "Have you not read the notice on the door" . I had not; the reception marked parking leaves only the shuttered front visible. Then " you were supposed to be here between 12.00 and 14.00 and we are not working at all tomorrow". I bit my tongue and thankfully saw no more of him before we left. Are these people unpaid volounteers or paid employees with no customer awareness?
