Amended review as last one was meant for Aberbran

This was a return after many years but the site was still the bird haven I remembered. The wardens were extremely helpful especially with sorting local walks with the dogs when the footpaths on the map were non existent. I wish the bird feeders were still infront of the hide but they were dotted all over the site ensuring everyone got to see them. Loved the site and the area and will be back.

Lost points for no recycling and noise

Lovely location surrounded by birdsong. Says tv good but still on analogue!!!! So most people had none! Newcomers asked each time. No recycling which is a great shame. Second morning was a rude start with noise from someone shifting vehicles at the wardens area. Needs a firm hand to stop arrogant members letting their dogs off lead.

Second Visit

We returned to this site for the second time, the first one being over 10 yrs ago, so it did appear a bit different from then with the addition of more hardstanding pitches, on the level terraces. The dog walk is across the road that divides the main part of the site from a pitching secondary area. Any walking from the site is uphill so requires a reasonable level of fitness. Although the site is just off the A470 it is very quiet and peaceful, and a haven for birdlife. The only TV reception, at the moment, was BBC1 and ITV1, by analogue relayed from a satellite system. We managed to get wifi by tethering to our 3 phone. We found that we had to travel a fair distance to places of interest, with the nearest shops being at Machynlleth, 10 mls or so away.  Great site if you want to be away from the hustle & bustle of everyday life.

May visit

Just returned from this lovely site. It is very relaxing and beautifully maintained. The dog walk is lovely and at the moment there is a lovely show of bluebells and other wild flowers. We enjoyed looking around the shops in Machynlleth and had no problem parking even on market day on Wednesday. Only one gripe , the motorhome waste disposal point is VERY near a concrete step and impossible to position our van without having half the tyre over the open area.

Bird heaven

If you are looking for a site where you can while away the time watching and listening to a Smorgasbord of bird life when Spring is in full flow then this is the place for you. It's a small terraced no toilet block site set in a valley about 10 miles east of Machynlleth. There are some seasonal pitches, a few grass pitches and the rest are hard standing pitches mostly flat. The site faces out to the opposite side of the valley and the views are gratifyingly peaceful. As usual the wardens do a grand job but beware there are times when the office is shut as they need some time off.  The main road running past the site is quiet at night and the lanes leading up above the site are steep but safe. There is a small stream that runs down one side of the site. This side only has 6 pitches on, being separated by the road going up onto the hills. It's not a site for families or those who may have difficulty with inclines as the water and waste units are not always accessible from your terrace but either up or down. TV and WiFi coverage is poor to non existent. Shopping is at least 10 miles away apart from a very small shop in Llanbrynmair, 1 mile away. This is a place to come to for relaxation and those seeking a helter skelter, all singing all dancing site must look elsewhere. Come here when you need some down time, although if you look for it energetic opportunities are to be found in the hills or the seaside a few miles away.

We will return

We stayed at this site over the last weekend, and we will definitely be going back. The wardens were friendly and helpful. The site is basically a CL but with the club corporate identity. No toilet block but who needs them with a modern caravan/motorhome. The site is terraced with good views across the valley. To describe this site as a little gem does not do it justice. We do not have young children so I have marked the families review as average. We would both like to see more of this type of site made available.

Returning again and again

I forget how many times we have visited this site but it is a lot.  All the wardens we have met have been pleasant and helpful.  Certainly we will be visiting again.  However, I do have one small complaint. Radio/tv reception has never been good and we understand the difficulties in rural areas. This visit reception was nil for radio and I understand from others that tv reception is down to 2 channels - this doesn't bother us as we travel without tv but we do like to listen to the radio! The club needs to do something about this as soon as.

Another site to return to

We spent 5 nights here over Easter and were delighted with the site and the welcome we received. The site is especially beautiful with a fine view across the valley to the hills beyond and the variety of birds on the site (some aided by the feeders provided by the wardens) was very welcome. There are not many sites where you can sit in bed of a morning and watch treecreepers not more than 10' away, glance up to see a red kite soaring overhead and listen to the "cronking" sounds from a family of ravens! The location is excellent for touring not just to the many “attractions” of Mid-Wales but also the innumerable and stunningly beautiful small roads that wind their way all over the area with such variety of scenery, flora and fauna. It’s a magical and peaceful area and there is no need to drive far. The village shop in Llanbrynmair is useful for the basics and there is an excellent Co-Op in Machynlleth (about 10 miles away). The terracing of the site adds character and, personally, we didn’t find privacy an issue but we did feel that a more visible warning in the Handbook and web page about the potential difficulty for those who are less able to manage slopes (especially when using the service points) may be appropriate. Overall an excellent site and we will certainly return.

Lovely site.

We returned home on the 14/04/15 from a 5 night stay at Gwern-y-Bwlch site. what a lovely quiet place. The wardens were very friendly and helpful. We arrived on the 9th which was their day off. Clear instructions were left on the door of the office, with the numbers of vacant pitches, and the information on how to pitch. We have been very surprised to read the previous review. It clearly states in the site book that the pitches are terraces, and also on the website. As I have previously said, the notice on how to pitch is very clear on the office door. Yes, the paths are steep, but it is a hilly area. This is a site, we look forward to returning to with our motorhome. Irene & john Nixon.

UPSET AT TREATMENT FOR OUR FIRST OUTING (BUSHTUCKER TRIAL)

let me start by saying that being yorkshire people we never complain unnecessaraly,we have just returned from our 1st trip out to wales (gwern-y-bwlch) with the caravan club.upon arrival we were not instructed how to park up our motor home,l parked as i thought fit bearing in mind it is a motorhome and small awning, the warden was emptying the bins and saw how we were parking,we set up our awning etc and were happy, next day we were told we had parked wrongly and would have to move the unit over,we did this ,we spent the 1 st day setting up the second day moving everything over,i have rheumatoid arthritis and this was not at all easy for us(we are 70)the sight was not advertised as tiered witch is not at all easy for disabled people with a dog,,we had to shorten our stay by 2 days because of the trauma of it all.if l new then what l know now l would not have joined the club traveled a 500 mile round trip to be treat worse than we would have been on any old farm,,if it had made any difference at all moving the unit it would not bother me at all but with only having a camper parked in on the pitch edge and awning the complete exercise was petty,we have wasted our fuel and sight fees on a bad experience….john surtees OH THE WARDEN SAID THAT WE COULD NOW HAVE A MEAL OUT WITH OUR 2 DAY REFUND SMART BUGGER
