Hidden Gem, fantastic wardens.

We have always wondered what the site at Forfar would be like. We were not disappointed. From the moment we arrived the new wardens Jackie and Phil made us feel extremely welcome. Nothing was too much for this lovely couple. They really want you to enjoy your stay. As it was March the site was quite quiet and there were plenty of pitches to choose from. It really is a breath of fresh air being allowed to choose a vacant pitch of your choice. The site itself is immaculate. Toilets and showers are spotless and best we have seen. Pitches were well kept. I can see why people revisit. A wonderful dog walk is situated around the loch which is just outside the campsite. A secure fence is placed around which has a keypad for entry for campsite guests. The site is in the centre of Forfar. An Aldi, Lidle and Home Bargains are very close by. Not far from the site are a few dog friendly bars/restaurants. We thoroughly enjoyed are stay and can’t wait to return.

Above and beyond!

First time out in our Motorhome this year and disaster strikes! Our heating system failed and despite numerous suggestions as to how to remedy the system it remained dead! Given the time of year and the grim weather forecasts we thought the only thing for it was to pack up and head home. We approached the wardens, Phil and Jackie and explained our situation. Right away Phil volunteered to come and have a look to see if he could help resolve the heating issue whilst Jackie was having none of us going home and provided us with an electric heater which was adequate for our needs. As a result we enjoyed our weekend in Forfar. The heating isn’t fixed but that does not detract from the efforts of these kind and caring people. As for the site itself, no complaints whatsoever

Not our best choice

We were shocked by the entrance, right in the middle of the village. Our pitch was spacious, but we had to move the caravan a bit forward. It was black with mosquitoes. Horrible. And the stench from the loch was bad too. Because of the walking path behind the campsite, it was not quiet either. The campsite was run by one couple. The warden didn't tell us anything about the area when I asked. He clearly didn't feel like it anymore, found the work too hard and was happy that next year he will get work at a campsite without sanitary facilities.

Very well kept site, location not great.

We have just stayed here for a week. The site is very well kept & the wardens work hard to maintain this. Toilets are very clean. The site is enclosed with a security fence, with a gate & keypad through to the loch. There is a kids playpark through this gate which can be noisy. However it seemed to attract teenagers on an evening. One evening there was a police car with a search light. The site itself is surrounded by rugby & football pitches. We arrived on a Saturday & the shouting could be heard from a match, there was also loud music. There was also shouting from a match on two evenings. Just outside the main entrance to the site is a foodbank & other buildings with high fences. Aldi, Lidl & Home Bargains are only a short walk from the site. We didnt find much to do in Forfar itself. Arbroath, Montrose & St Andrews are not far to visit. We also visited Braemar & Balmoral which are a day trip. There is a gin distillery not far away. The lochside walk was a little disappointing, the sides of the loch are covered in trees which makes the walk more like a woodland walk. All in all we enjoyed our week but we have been to many other sites in much nicer settings.

Great location

This site is within walking distance of the town of Forfar with shops, pubs etc. lovely walk round the loch takes about an hour. Can be a bit noisy with traffic and birds from the loch. Did find the pitch we were on we had people walking across our pitch to the toilet block actually between our car and caravan! Very well kept site by the wardens.

Other reviewers obviously stayed at a different Forfar site than we did!

From unruly children, to disinterested and uncontactable management, to people walking across our pitch, to site staff spraying weedkiller on pitches and we were not able to confirm whether it was pet safe, to the high wire fence and heavy metal gate on the loch side of the site that a fellow camper told me was necessary to keep out the local yobbos and gave the impression I was staying in a prison. We booked for three nights and left after one. Other than this go and enjoy!

Best club site

This is undoubtedly the best club site we have ever visited. It is in immaculate condition grass beautifully cut hard standing clean and level and facilities clean and well maintained. Add this to a very friendly welcome and helpful and accommodating wardens, what more could you want. Excellent for dogs and visiting the town with lots of attractions like Glamis Castle nearby.

Lovely site spoiled by a staff member

A very well maintained site in a great location in Forfar town adjacent to the country park. The facilities are excellent and very clean but this should be a given on s club site where the cost of the stay is do much higher than on a certified location. Our stay was spoiled because, after having had to queue at reception which didn’t open until 1 pm on the dot despite the long queue of members waiting to book in we chose our pitch, set up and we’re preparing lunch when a warden arrived and told us we “had won the prize for pitch up of the day”. Rather taken aback we realised we were not “on the marker” but his sarcasm really annoyed us. We assumed he had come to register our pitch number so we didn’t return to reception to give it in. The following morning at 7.30am I went to take a shower to find everywhere locked up and reception closed. Another visitor told me that we would have been given a key when we notified our pitch number to reception. No one mentioned this when we booked in. Our experience has reinforced our previous opinion that we find club sites far too officious and we much prefer the friendlier CLs.

Very clean

Visited Forfar Lochside whilst touring Scotland in May, arrived about 10 minutes before 1, missed entrance and had to turn round. Already queue as site wouldn’t allow access until 1. Had grass pitch as all we could book. Not able to change but pitch dry and no issues. Facilities spotless, access by key due to location near town. Staff very friendly, shops within walking distance. 2.5 mile walk around loch from site. Noise from fair was a bit intrusive. Would visit again in preference to some other sites.
