First half term visit, and we were really impressed

We'd never generally consider camping during half terms or school holidays because, being retired, we can go whenever we want - so we usually leave it for those without a choice. We'd gone out of necessity, to attend an old friend's funeral at Cambridge and although Cherry Hinton is nice enough, there is little to do there apart from visit Cambridge and spend. At Ferry Meadows, we get a different vista every month, and autumn makes this a very pretty and photogenic area. It's also fun for the kids, that's why there were only 3 or 4 pitches left when we arrived around 12:30 on Saturday. The steam railway team were up to their halloween tricks, having decorated the station up with cauldron, ghosts and spiders - all in readiness for the Wizard Express late night train visit which we were invited back to see. A good time, lots to see and photograph, kids all seemed to enjoy themselves and they were quiet and in bed (or nearly in bed) by 9pm. Hard standings on all pitches would allow many more to visit - hint hint, unless they enjoy living like mudskippers.

23rd Oct to29th Oct halfterm joy

Normally avoid school holidays because of rush etc but wife changed jobs so had to go. Rapidly fully booked but so peacefull even though the young ones having fun . Steam train chorus took me back to childhood. Loads of lovely dog walks and love Nene park. Wardens couldnot have been more helpful and friendly. Yes it rained heavy on two occasions but on holiday so it didnt dampen spirits. Some unlucky campers were turned away due to waterlogging but The Club cant fight "act of God" our hardstanding was half submerged for a few hours with 2 inches. Been a number of times previously and will not hesitate to visit a few more !x

July in November

Fabulous week-end in which we were able to sit outside the van in shirt sleeves all afternoon. Yes this was November!! Site very good and accessibility to walking and cycling from here is brilliant!! The park is tremendous. Particularly enjoyed the sound of steam trains during the day. Will come again.

Half Term Halloween Madness

We travelled with friends aware it was a school holiday, arriving 2nd and 3rd in the queue for check in at 1145. With prior knowledge of the site we hoped to be near each other but were not holding our breath. At 1155 the warden suddenly asked all partners to go to the office, unprepared and our wives being slightly older than many, were not so nimble, so despite being 2 and 3 in the queue ended up 7 and 8 as there was a stampede. If I were faced with that rare situation as a warden I would pass down the vehicles giving out numbered tallies and booking in the arrivals in order. Members were desperate to get pitches near each other and also hard standing, to add to the situation 2 pitches had been marked with a cone, we were told by a member this was because they had water on them earlier, they turned out to be reserved for disabled members. I ended up moving the van 3 times, but we did get hard standing in the end. These events are rare only twice in 22 years has it happened, it could be prevented with a little pre-planning. Our stay was good and we enjoyed seeing the children on Halloween, we also visited a good museum dedicated to Romany Life, it is near Spalding and is run by a true Romany gentleman called Gordon Boswell he has a large collection of horse and motor drawn caravans and will give out much history regarding Romany life (google Gordon Boswell Romany Museum)Well worth a visit. The site and area has much to offer and despite the little hic up on arrival we will be back.

A five day break

The Site has so much to offer, close to Peterborough also some very good walks around the Nene Park. Station for the Nene valley steam railway close by. A place we would love to return too, but concerned on who quick the wardens cancel bookings, when we arrived they had already canceled some booking for that day, and we where told we where lucky as our surname began with W. Also then cancelling 40 bookings out of 60 for the Friday as the weather forecast was rain. But the site was in good condition except for a little mud, well it is Autumn. So many Holidays spoilt. How often does this happen on club sites?

Very good site!

Great location on Nene Country Park so lots to do which is great if you have dogs and kids as we do. Definitely bring your bikes, safe tracks all around the park that suits all as it is flat. Family orientated and very well maintained and organised with good security. Staff are very helpful and have loads of local knowledge. We'll definitely use this site again.

half term break

Visited the site for 4 days during October half term. This was our first outing with our new (to us) caravan and the site was recommended to us by my parents - we weren't disappointed. The site was great, the welcome friendly, showers plentiful & clean. We enjoyed hiring bikes, golf, walks, wildlife workshops, steam train and walked to 'The Windmill' pub which has a fab kids playground & good food. All in all a very positive experience - thank you

Lovely break

This was our first visit to ferry meadows after being recommended to it. We were not disappointed, after a warm welcome from the lady warden we set up.  We then explored the country park being half term it was lovely to see the children running, playing and laughing in the beautiful warm sunshine for October. The country park has everything wonderful walks, wildlife, play areas, dog walks, cycle routes, cafe, and gift shop.  The next day we cycled into Peterborough all safe traffic free and a beautiful city. The site was lovely, showers hot and spotless, the steam train running past.  Rutland cycle shop opened this weekend too,  we had a wonderful time and will definitely be back in the summer.  Only grumble was the large gold RV opposite insisted on slamming their car doors 6 times before 7am every morning  not the sites fault just inconsiderate people.

Two weekends here in September.

We visited on consecutive weekends in September as we needed to be in the area. The site is much bigger than we would normally use ,and was a bit of a novel experience.Everything about the site is well up to the usual C.C high standards. The warden team were very pleasant and helpful as we made some unusual demands on them! The site appears to be a dream for families on many levels and it was a bit gauling to see the steam trains going by so regularly and not having the time to ridee!!!!!!!! When we pulled on to the site we instantly got lost in trying to find our pitch due to the size of the site but after a quick lap soon found the pitch. The site is much too big for us but that is not the sites fault.A justly popular site and a jewel in the club crown.
