Great site for more than just a stop over, excellent staff

Stayed att Exeter Racecourse for 5 nights in June. The whole site is spotlessly clean and the grass is mowed and cared for more like a golf course than a caravan field. Fantastic site all round and the staff..you just can't fault them. So friendly and helpful, they really go the extra mile to make sure you enjoy your stay and make sure the site is pristine. Plenty of bins and waterpoints, numerous gand sanitiser stations always topped up. Will definitely be back soon

Excellent for stopover

First time on the site, we used it for a stop over on the way to Cornwall. It was easy to find and there is a Tesco about 6 miles away for any provisions and fuel. Some people have mentioned the showers were cold, the shower tap is a two way system, you need to turn on the water flow and turn the tap to get hot water. The wardens were very pleasant.

What a find

We booked two nights here on our way home from Cornwall. You have to be a bit on the ball as the turning is, as the book says, a very sharp turn near the top of a long hill. Then the site is close to the road and very accessible. The very helpful and pleasant wardens pointed us towards the 'Paddock' part of the site. What a little gem. Largely flat, quiet and very well maintained lawned pitches. The outlook is part of the racecourse with a forest beyond and we thought it was really attractive. You can walk the dogs around the race track and they can run off lead (providing they are well behaved and have a decent recall) as there is plenty of grass and trees. There is, of course, some road noise, but we didn't think it too obtrusive and we live in a very quiet rural area at home. The Paddock has two service points - a little rough round the edges but perfectly fine. So no long walks for water. There is a very long walk if you want to use the facilities - which we didn't, as they are at the far end of the main site. After the wet, muddy rigours of Cornwall, we had two hot days to rest and dry out. And thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Petrol expensive nearby - so we travelled a few miles to Tesco. Oh and the wardens sell very nice ice cream too!

Good stopover and hot showers!

We used to stay at Minnows as a one night stopover on the M5 but that is now adults only and no longer affiliated to the club as far as I can see, so we decided to try Exeter racecourse instead. Just what we needed. Friendly and helpful wardens. We just made it to the Haldon Forest Diner for food which you can walk to across the racecourse. It closes it’s door at 6 but as long as you get in before they will serve you. Good food, very friendly people. Just to clear up some issues from a previous review regarding cold showers, I think the tap is a bit confusing and maybe the club could just put some signs up to say how to use, the tap is a lever tap with hot and cold markings on, but in fact it appears to be a one temperature tap which needs to be turned fully on to get any hot water, that’s about 3/4 of a full circle. Initially I just turned it till the water came on and waited, but it remained cold until I turned fully on and waited some time! They could just do with updating the shower head. The shower block was heated (October).

An interesting site!

We only spent one night here but really enjoyed this site. Very spacious for both humans and dogs. The shower block is a bit eccentric - particularly the instruction to 'dress outside the cubicle if you don't want to get your clothes wet'. This may not appeal to some (particularly if the site is busy) as there are no privacy wash basin cubicles. It probably doesn't quite meet the usual Club standard but facilities were clean and water warm and lay-out certainly provided a traveller's tale.

Access and Facilities are Great

This is the fourth time I have been to this site and I have never been disappointed. Access is, as you would expect, straight off a main highway. All pitches are wide and roomy and I've always found the facilities to be warm and clean and the new power showers hot. By car you can get on the Devon Express way to Exeter and Plymouth. Getting around by bus is more challenging as there is only a stop on the racecourse side of the road and to get to Exeter you have to go to Chudleigh and change buses to get back to Exeter. But one might say that's all part of the fun. I have little doubt that I shall be back at this site next year. It's a great stopping off point into Devon and Cornwall or for Somerset and Dorset.

Cold Showers Again!!

This is our third visit this year to Exeter Racecourse this year and the third time the showers are only cold water. No heating appears to be on either and the shower blocks are freezing. It’s Septembernr now. I know this site is managed and the Jockey Club do maintenance, it’s time this issue was sorted out permanently

Basic site but does the job

it's not the prettiest of sites, there is one area that is wooded and looks lovely but we were put on the main bit as there are only two non-electric pitches. the site it literally in the middle of the race course, very interesting for the kids as we had to cross the track in order to go for a walk in the woods. The woods were lovely and lots to explore. Showers and toilets were clean and well kept (new power showers so very pleasant). would be good to have a little play area for the kids and the play field is heather based and not good for kids really. but overall friendly, clean and well kept, just lacks some character.

Not just a stop over site

There is plenty to do in the area that we had not realized. We have spent 20 + years driving past this site and until this June did not think to stop. We stayed 3 nights and realized there was so much to do in the area, that we booked another 2 nights on the way back from Cornwall 3 weeks later. The site is peaceful, spacious, and the wardens were so friendly and helpful. The facilities are older than some sites, but were kept spotless and we never queued for the showers. Plenty of water points on the site and there are both hard standings and grass pitches.

Racecourse surprise.

First time at this site and after reading some negative comments we did not know what to expect. We really enjoyed our stay here, big spacious pitch, with two mile dog walk around the course plus Haldon Forest. Facilities were of the older type but very clean thanks to the Wardens.. Handy for Exeter, countryside and coast of Devon and a bargain price. Will use this site again.
