Stayed for 5 nights in July 22. excellent value ,shower block outdated but spotlessly clean, good size pitches. Dont bother with the fish and chip van that visits. It doesn't do fish, just burgers and frozen chips which weren't even properly cooked.Very close to main road but little noise. Was told to fully unwind mains lead by warden which was fair enough even though many others seem to have been overlooked at various times while we were there.
Two night stay in July
What a lovely site. Spacious, clean and welcoming. Excellent value for money.

Good location and nice site (can't understand all the fuss about it)
The site is very good and exceptionally well priced for somewhere with a toilet block, less than what most CLs are now going for these days. There are two areas, a huge gently sloping field area with the shower block and a second smaller area in a more secluded wooded setting. The former is in full sun all day and has a nice view across a valley to a huge woodland. There is no vegetation splitting the pitches but they are plenty big enough for privacy. It's on an exposed slope so it can get windy (but then again so can Old Hartley but that doesn't stop us staying there either).
The shower block is immaculately clean and the whole site is well kept with mostly grass pitches and some hard standing. The block might be a little dated but it is kept to the very best of standards.
There is a service station across the A380 accessible by a few minutes walk with a diner, McDonalds and a well stock Londis shop with a Greggs in the ESSO garage. Friday night saw a fish and chips/burger van on site. Traffic noise from the A38 is not intrusive (only the yapping dogs and thumping music were noise pollution).
There isn't anything within any sort of walking distance of the site but everything you could want from beaches to towns to countryside is within reasonable driving distances. We spent 7 nights in the middle of June and did Sidmouth, Dawlish Warren, Exmouth and the Dartmoor Steam railway and river excursion. Paignton and Torquay are also within easy reach. We avoided Budleigh Salterton because it's a pebble beach and Exeter city was disappointing overall.
My only complaint is about the behaviour of other Club members. There were a pair of dogs that regularly barked for long periods of time without any intervention from the owners. This included early morning and late in to the evening and for protracted periods of time. When I approached the wardens about them I was told to either find another pitch further away, not that that would have done any good, or to approach the owners myself if the dogs were causing a disturbance. I couldn't find anything on the Club website asking dog owners to be considerate and keep their dogs quiet and there was no mention of this on the information leaflet handed out on arrival. I am pretty sure if I was playing loud music in the same way I would be told to shut up or leave. Or perhaps not, as the same people got away with some thumping music until gone 1am. Perhaps it's the nature and lifestyle of some members that puts them beyond the ability to reproach them; or maybe just this particular group. I think it unacceptable that just one or two members can create so much disruption for everyone else.
Hidden gem
Booked to stay one night on the way down the Devon coastline, ended up booking for two nights and then another night on the way back up. Lovely part of the site in between trees, very quiet, compared to other racecourse sites, you wouldn't realise you were on one! Further from facilities but well worth it. Main part more busy, but seemed spacious. The showers were good, although the floor got really wet. Wardens really friendly and helpful. Fish and chips on a Friday night. Garage and food take out other side of A38, about 15 min walk under A38. Near to Haldon Forest Park for cycling and walking and National Trust properties. Definitely recommend.
Not up to Club Standards
Stayed here overnight as a stopover on the way to Cornwall. Site has easy access from M5 which is really the only good thing about it. It is on top of a hill and it was very windy when we were there. Would be horrible if wet. The site has an extreme lack of investment. The shower block whilst clean is very dated. The dish washing is open at the back. There is nothing nearby so you need a car to go anywhere. The Club can do better with our subscriptions!
Great site with many improvements with the new management
We only stay here for single nights when in transit as the location is perfect for us and we don't live far away..
We used to have some niggles and, in particular, the drive over facility for MH grey waste was a nightmare to get to when others were around as it was just in the wrong place.
The new managers are really lovely people and have made a number of improvements including a brand new, easily accessible, drive over facility.
We would recommend this site for longer stays as there is great access to many activities nearby as well.
We are aiming to attend during a race meeting because, by all accounts, it is a lot of fun.

Stopover only
We stopped over on route elsewhere and were glad we hadn’t booked longer.
The positives are access to the site is great, the wash block is warm and very clean, pitches level and there’s a shop on site.
The negatives are there’s not really anything to do nearby so you need to drive to get anywhere, there’s no views to speak of and the site seemed a bit soulless.
In summary and from a motorhome perspective, a good stopover but not really suitable for a longer stay if you like to just park up and walk/cycle to stuff nearby
Excellent Exeter
Just back from our first trip away this year, what bliss with unexpectedly good weather for March. The site is clean and tidy and extremely well managed. The facilities are all working and scrupulously clean. The new wardens for this year are warm and welcoming, friendly and very efficient, they are both delightful. An excellent site for those with dogs, you are allowed to walk the course and easy access into Harcombe Woods.
Not up to Caravan Club Standards
We stayed on this site in July for 3 weeks. When we arrived it had been raining and the campsite looked dishevelled. We managed to find a pitch which was close to Grundy bins and a service point. This was to be our downfall as the large bins were only emptied once a week and soon the rubbish was overflowing and the stench was disgusting. I couldn’t open the caravan windows as the temperatures soared. The service point was regularly used but other rude people walk close to your pitch to access it. The wardens were not bothered by my complaints and everything was the responsibility of the Race course. At the end of the day my contract is with the Caravan Club not the Race Course. The roads were full of potholes and badly lit in the evening. Very difficult to pitch an awning as there was rock just below the grass. A relief warden was breaking down cardboard in the recycling Grundy bin one day and he was such a scruffy man that another camper asked if he was looking for his bed for the night. The warden didn’t even smile.
One day the same warden was trying to put another pitch in between my unit and the service point. I wasn’t impressed. Glad that he changed his mind. The Caravan Club band arrived as did more rubbish and the relief wardens were not proactive but reactive and managed to find some small bins for the extra rubbish. Will never ever recommend this site and would not choose to use it ever again.
The Webb's On Tour
Excellent site. The wardens Avril and Mark keep an immaculate site, credit to them. Toilet and shower block including disabled are spotlessly clean, as is the pot washing area. The grass is very well maintained. Peaceful site to stay on. Central location for driving off for the day. Nice 2 mile walk around the racecourse, level underfoot, suitable for anyone not steady on their feet. We will return.
