Best of Both Worlds

Just had a great break here. Its not just an overnight stop of the M6. We love it for the walks in the woods. Surrounding area has lots to offer Hadrians Wall attractions and the East Lake Distinct World Heritage sites not far away. Carlisle is a city with all that they offer only 10mins drive away. There's a pub (the Greyhound) within walking distance at Cotehill. Compact and level but with terracing to allow everyone a view. Its a real little gem. don't be put off by the access, take it steady and you'll be fine.

Seasonal Pitch

We have just returned home after our 2017 seasonal pitch at Englethwaite Hall. Apart from the weather we have enjoyed our stays. The wardens are so friendly and helpful, especially with keeping us updated with the current upheaval with the approach roads. The grounds are kept immaculately..........great changes since we were there around 2009- so much hard work has been applied. The wardens never stop working and maintaining this lovely site.........a lot of unseen work being done. The chance of fish and chips on a friday.........fabulous......order before 5pm and the warden goes to the local hotel to pick them up. Mainly very peaceful.......lovely walks and lots of nature at its best. Thank you again Fiona and Lewis.......the grounds are a credit to you. Sandy and Linda White

Beautiful Site

This site must be one of the most picturesque in the Caravan and Motorhome Club. Autumn at the site is wonderful as it is similar to a forest site only more open and well kept. This is down to the wardens who keep the site in tip top shape. This big plus with this site is there are several fully serviced pitches, so no dragging around water and waste barrels. There are also three service points on the site, so it's not too far to walk from your pitch. There are beautiful walks around the site and there is also a woodland walk. The dog walk is fantastic, fully enclosed, so your dogs can run off lead. The site is a few miles from the motorway, some of the roads are a little narrow but they aren't busy and we have never had a problem when visiting the site. There are supermarkets just off the M6, junction 42 (Aldi and Asda) 43 (Tesco) and 44 (Morrisons and Aldi). There is Wifi but only on certain pitches and when we visited the site the TV reception was fine from our pitch. No facilities as such but you are made aware of this when booking. What more can I say, this is a lovely site if you like peace and quiet. I would not recommend this site for families as there is nothing for the children to do apart from exploring the woodland.

Great place

Chose this site for its proximity to an event we were attending. I understood that there was no toilet/ shower block and as we have a large rig when nearing the site I was a little cautious of the distance from the A road along narrow lanes. However once on the site I was very impressed with the tranquil beauty, neatness and overall attractiveness of the location and site. The staff were only available for limited times, but appeared outside of their allotted work times when they note your arrival(thanks). Nice people! There was no wi-fi, however we had our own, reception was good. Satellite TV reception was a no go!!! It was a pleasure to visit and we would use again!!

Lovely site

Lovely site with probably the best secure dog walk we have encountered on the club site network. The diversion due to electrical works was interesting on arrival but had finished when we left. Thanks to helpful wardens

Nice site, but quite a jaunt from the motorway

We stayed at the beginning and end of a trip to the Hebrides. The site is well kept, and the wardens are helpful and friendly. However, if you are expecting it to be an easy overnight stop a short distance from the main roads, think again. There are road works on the access road, which will last 10 weeks if I recall correctly. It takes a minimum of 27 minutes (I timed it) to reach the site from the M6 junction. The roads to the site are narrow and poorly kept, with deep soft verges. Your van will get a good shaking! I'm a boisterous motorcaravaner, and happy to tackle such things - but many on site with caravans were complaining at how difficult the access is.

Fabulous site

We only stayed here for two nights on our way back home after a three week tour of the north. What a fabulous site, so clean and immaculately kept. Easy to get to from junc 40 of the M6 although the road is quite bumpy from the Cumwhitton turn off. Super dog walks and a forest next door. Settle to Carlisle railway line runs near to the site and occasional steam speacials can be seen on the embankment at the site entrance. This is how I like club sites, at £14 a night who needs a fancy toilet block. We'll be back I'm sure.

Just a stop off for us.

We used this site for one night only on our tour of Scotland. It was lovely, very quiet and the warden was very helpful as we hired a motor home (being caravan owners) everything was slightly different and she explained how things operated. The warden also helped when my cycle required the handlebars tightening providing tools needed. We would go back again especially if there were a toilet block.

A gem of a site

We loved this site. Although it was full and many people were coming just overnight it was so quiet and peaceful. The grounds were beautifully kept and yet we did not feel regimented in any way. We have two energetic dogs so were very impressed by the very large area fenced off for dogs to run in, very useful for first thing in the morning. The site is adjacent to Forestry Commission so there were plenty of longs walks as well. There are no onsite facilities so perhaps not the best site for families to stay for a holiday but it is quite close to Carlisle, Hadrian's Wall and the Solway Coast. The only problem, not the sites fault, were the roadworks that necessitated a detour to find the site. Please don't ignore the info on the website about the best route to take as the diversion signs sent us up a closed road and it was very hard work to turn around!
