Excellent

What a gem of a site. Been using as stop off on the way to Scotland. But the last two years have stopped there for a few days. So peaceful and tranquil. Well placed for site seeing. This year's Wardens have done a fantastic job. So we'll looked after and cared for Well done.

Lovely site but has its downsides.

Stayed here for four nights on the way up to Scotland and it really is a lovely site. Immaculately kept by the wardens. Probably wouldn’t stay there again as we prefer a facilities block but it would be ok for 1 night. No play area so kids do not have anywhere to play apart from the central grassy area. Lots of seasonal pitches, the area we pitched had 8 hardstandings and 4 of those were seasonal. For some unknown reason the reception had very limited opening hours which made it difficult if you needed anything from the shop.

A gem.

Stayed at Englethwaite Hall for the first in mid-May and I have to say it is a gem of a site. It’s like camping in a somewhat grand garden, which is exactly what the site was, and what a garden. The pitches are surrounded by mature trees and shrubs, the Rhododendrons just coming in to flower at the time of my visit. The site is so peaceful and quiet with only birdsong to listen to and the site is kept immaculate by the very friendly and helpful wardens. Hope to return soon.

Peaceful stay

A relaxing and peaceful stay at the well kept Englethwaite Hall site. The blossoming shrubs added to the attractiveness of this site, and even though fully booked it was still very restful well recommended

Absolutely perfect site

Our first stay at this perfect site was over the early May bank holiday weekend. The site is amazingly neat and well kept by the lovely wardens. It's peaceful with quite a large fenced off area for your dog to run off the lead and walks in the woods literally at the edge of the campsite. If you want a quiet, out of the way place to stay then this is the site for you, and the wardens even go to the chip shop for you on a Friday night. We didn't give 5 stars for facilities only because there isn't a toilet block but the site is really well kept, and we didn't give 5 stars for families because there isn't a playground and it is very quiet. All in all, perfect.

Wonderful site, proximate to M6 and hosted by lovely, helpful wardens.

We made our first visit to this beautiful site the week before Easter and received a wonderful and helpful welcome from Isobel. The site is quiet, but heartily recommended to those seeking peace. Children have plenty of grass to play on and the site roads are perfect for youngl people's bikes! The whole place is immaculate - I even caught Isobel wiping down the electricity supply boxes! The site is proximate to Hadrian's Wall and the Northern Lakes, latter via the M6 south to Penrith. It is also fairly convenient to those travelling to and from Scotland as a short stopover. We had a week there but could have happily stayed. Looking forward to returning.

Purple pegs and part time reception.

Yet another lovely visit to our favourite site, tinged this time with a little sadness at the increasing number of purple pegs (seasonal pitches) and also much reduced opening hours at the reception / shop. We don't have an issue with the club needing to offer seasonal pitches as a means of collecting revenue to maintain the site but not at the detriment of those of us who still like to tour. It seems at Englethwaite, the best pitches are now taken up by seasonals and to be pitched surrounded by empty units left us feeling that we had perhaps parked up in a caravan storage yard. We have always had the pick of pitches at this site, all large and well maintained but we fear if more purple pegs appear, this will no longer be the case and we would therefore knock it off our list. Whilst the reception doesn't always need to be open especially if the wardens are busy with other jobs, it now appears to only be open minimally especially Sunday to Thursday. Ordinarily though we would expect to see wardens out and about the site, chatting, gardening, tidying etc, but on our last visit, in some part, there was no wardens on site at all. They were having an afternoon off, much deserved you might say but it seems with the reception closed most of the time and no sight nor sound of them around the site, what were they having an afternoon off from??? Not having a dig, just making observations. The shop also lost revenue during the day as on more than one occasion, we wandered over to make a 'treat' purchase, only to find it was closed. We weren't the only ones either. We will visit again as we love it but if things continue the way they have changed over the last couple of years, we may not be visiting as regularly.

Came for two weeks, stayed for a year!

This is our fifth stay at Englethwaite Hall. We originally booked a serviced pitch for two weeks but ended up with a seasonal after asking the wardens if any were still available. This site is our favourite across the whole CMC system. Quiet, relaxing and handy for the northern lakes, Solway coast and, of course, Hadrians Wall. Easy access via the M6 from our home in Derbyshire was another reason for liking the site. We are still discovering local gems such as Lanercost Priory with its dog friendly tea room and Talkin Tarn with wonderful walks. Just down the road is the Oak Tree animal rescue with a nice cafe if you want a light meal but don’t want to travel far. Carlisle is one junction up the motorway but we prefer Penrith which is less busy. Come and experience Englethwaite, you won’t regret it!

A Quiet Retreat

A lovely little gem of a site, well maintained and with spacious pitches. There is fantastic views on one side of the site and the other part of the site is surrounded with trees which creates a lovely and peaceful setting. There is a public footpath from the site which takes you into High Stand woods which is fantastic for dogs and takes you to the local village. It is close to the M6 for convenience and easy to find.
