Always an enjoyable stay !

This is still one of our favourite and most visited site since we began caravanning in 2002! It is well positioned close to the Firth of Forth with an enjoyable walk along the promenade to Cramond (and Cramond Island when low tide) Always a warm welcome from the helpful and friendly wardens who have spent a lot of time and effort redressing the pitches .....the site is looking great! Facilities are good too.  Our only disappointment is that the public bus has stopped going round Marine Drive to the site entrance. To get into the city there is a mini bus from the site, or approx. 10 minute walk to the top road, but be aware there are no street lights on Marine Drive. . There are several supermarkets nearby. There is plenty to see and do in Edinburgh, but it is also a good location for day trips out of the city. We often visit The McArthur Glen designer outlet in Livingston and cross the Forth Road bridge to Fife (we especially enjoy the East Neuk fishing villages and St Andrews) We have just returned from another enjoyable visit and hope to be back again soon!

Very good site

We stayed for 5 nights and were worried by the reviews that complained about aircraft noise. Yes there was aircraft noise but as the planes were coming in the engine noise was far less than if they had been taking off in our direction so we hardly noticed it Our pitch was beside the road and we had a few noisy cars on occasions but that didn't worry us either. As elderly campers we found the site too far away from bus stops to use them and the mini bus that ran from camp stopped too late to use it for going to the theatre for instance. However, my wife has a blue badge so we found it fairly easy to park in the city centre. Overall we really liked the site and will have no qualms about using it again when visiting Edinburgh.

Nice site with Easy access to city

The site is very well maintained, with great facilities, we always found the staff were very friendly and helpful. It is on the flight path for Edinburgh airport but after a while you don't notice the planes going over, which at times are every few minutes.  It is easy to catch the 27 or 16 bus into town with the stop being about a 10 minute walk from the site, these run well into the night for those wishing to take advantage of Edinburghs theatres or nightlife. Although part of the walk back is unlit so a torch is essential. There is also good access to the shore with walks to Crammond recommend. In the other direction it is possible to walk to Leith if you have time (or catch the 16 bus if not) The 27 stops at the botanic gardens which is well worth a visit. We have visited on many occasions and have always found the site a good base for getting into the city.

Short Break

Our first time at this site and what a find it is. Excellent location and yes it is on a flight path but you soon get used to it and it did not trouble us during our stay. We used public transport (No 16 bus) to Ocean Terminal which was good for visiting the Royal Yacht Britannia but loved the onsite minibus service into the City Centre. What an excellent service, 2 minutes walk into the city and you choose your time to return. One day there was a notice on to ring if you wanted collecting and the bus was there in less than 5 minutes, cannot recommend it highly enough. Cannot wait to return next year.

Edinburgh Adventure

Upon arrival we were warmly and efficiently greeted. Provided with useful information and clear instructions on what to do and how. Site was immaculate and had a friendly atmosphere. Much entertainment watching the squirrel antics. The site is secure and tranquil considering the proximity to the city. My family and I used the bus information and bought a family ticket and used it on both the trams and the buses. Always a bit daunting navigating unfamiliar cities - useful tip on the info would be what stops are best for certain attractions. The shop appeared to be a little depleated in terms of fresh produce but given the time of year and the fact there are shops reasonably near by not a big worry. I think we will return at some point at Endinburgh has so much to offer and explore. Thank you to all the staff at the Silver Knowles site.

Great base for city break

Site itself is a well maintained club site and amenities are to a good standard. Main attraction for ourselves is the ease with which you can access the city centre and attractions by public transport (10 minute walk) and leave our motorhome parked up on site. Good for a city break.

Lovely site

Just had 3 day stay here on way to Highlands.  Yes there is plane noise but not excessive. We loved being able to access the promenade and beach with our 2 dogs.  Very helpful wardens and very tidy site.

An Excellent Site

Stayed for a couple of nights at the end of September mainly to see a show in Edinburgh on Saturday evening.Site is excellent.Pitches are big, toilet blocks clean and well maintained and the site itself is very well looked after. Lovely walk along the shore to Cramond and we would recommend a walk out to the island. Aircraft noise not a problem to us,you get used to it during your stay.Regular buses run into the city so really no need to move your car. We bought a £4 daily travel ticket which was really worth the money on Lothian buses. Would totally recommend this excellent club site.
