Long time visitor

We have used this site many times over the years. It was the Corporation site originally - just a grass field with a tap, quite boggy after rain. The improvements since the Club took it over are huge. The facilities can't really be faulted. However, with time some things have not improved - not the Club's fault. 1.The flight path to the airport is now extremely busy. Maybe you get used to the noise after a while? 2.The regular bus service that stopped at the gate has gone - we now drive to Craighall (generally plenty of space to park, it's safe and it's free) and get the #7 when we want to go into town.

Great site

Great site which is handy for Edinburgh bus routes etc and near the beautiful Cramond / beach with very friendly helpful staff. The biggest site I've been on even bigger than Crystal Palace in fact. Good facilities but would be helpful to have an extra couple of washing machines if possible. If there's a busy period for example eg one day there was a machine not working and only 1 machine for the whole site of over 100 pitches. Otherwise, overall a very good well kept site. The staff are really kind and even can take the odd bit of mail if you're here for a while for example. Cheaper rates as well during the week and if you get a seasonal pitch. My only question is why they do rounds on the tractor do they start earlier than other sites even on a Sunday eg 8am which tends to wake up the other campers and creates more noise. Otherwise great and thanks so much :)

Lovely City site but beside a beach!

First time we have been here and a lovely site. It is only a few minutes walk down to a lovely promenade where you can walk in either direction to Crammond (lovely tiny village) or Leith. Buses into Edinburgh are available, although as we have a dog with us we did not go into town. We did go for days out to Culross, where Outlander was filmed and Burntisland on the other side of the Firth of Forth crossing the new bridge. Showers were hot and powerful and the site, tidy and clean. Only problem for us was the dog walk was closed between 8.00 pm and 8.30am. We just walked our dog early on the promenade and last thing at night had to be round the site. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would only comment on the noise from the airplanes which didn’t bother us as we live in the flight path of an airport at home but as the site is so near the city airport it is to be expected. Would definitely visit this site again.

Wonderful Silverknowes.

Really wonderful site. Great walks along the prom., Easy bus access into town centre. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Toilet and shower blocks very clean, sweet smelling and warm. What else to say, it's a perfect site.

September 2017

Nice site well placed for easy access to Edinburgh. Minibus service pickup by the reception and drop off in the city centre and back in the late afternoon/early evening is excellent and good value for £6 return. The only real downside of the site is the air traffic coming into the nearby airport but I didn't see that as a major problem that would stop us returning. Site staff were welcoming and helpful as usual. The facilities are all up to the usual very good standard also. Take the minibus and spend the day up and down Princes Street and the Royal Mile or Edinburgh Castle.....Edinburgh Castle is a day's activity on it's own. We will be back as there's so much else we want to see and do in such a beautiful city.

Really helpful staff

This is a very well placed site for access to Edinburgh and we found the staff to be exceptionally warm and helpful. Explanations, for example, of using buses was very useful and we were offered change when we needed it as the right cash needs to be given when boarding buses. When we wanted to extend our stay, we the staff made efforts to ensure that we were able to stay on our pitch, despite it being obvious that the site was very busy. On other Caravan Club sites in the past we have often found staff to be officious and not overly helpful, but staying on this site was a real pleasure. We will return. Facilities for motorhomes are good, not being limited to just one motorhome service point and the facilities were excellent.

4 Night Break

Lovely site with easy access to the city and short walk to Crammond which was lovely. Wardens very friendly and helpful. Only criticism would be dog owners allowing their dogs to foul and not pick up after them - let the wardens down

Don't worry about the planes, beware of garden Machinery noise !!

Location good, access to Edinburgh via minibus very good value. Nicely positioned for some good bike rides. Our only complaint is the noise from the wardens with their Garden Machinery ! We have just returned from a bike ride to the Forth bridge hoping for a quiet afternoon outside our van, and all we can hear is one warden with a grass strummer and one with a leaf blower, we can't even hear the planes. We know these jobs need doing but really a leaf blower to blow back gravel onto the pitches - what's wrong with a broom ? and what's wrong with a pair of shears ? And why are the wardens issued with ear protection but not us campers ? As someone who works in an H&S environment I will be bringing a noise monitor on my next visit. And don't even get me started on the big John Deere Mowers that seem to have become the norm with the Caravan Club, mostly used to empty the bins each day.

Perfect city break site

We loved this site, its perfect for a city break. Not only are you only a bus ride from the centre of the city there is plenty to do in the immediate area. Go left on Marine Drive (walk or cycle) and you arrive at Crammond, a beautiful village with a causeway out to an island. Continue on Cycle 1 and in a couple of miles you arrive at the chocolate box conservation village of Dalmeny, from where its a short ride down to the Forth Road Bridge. Now closed to traffic you can still cycle over, or bring your car and park in the car park and walk over. In the opposite direction on Marine Drive you can cycle the 5 miles to Leith, see the Royal Yacht Britannia and sample the delights of Leith seafront. The site is immaculate, its a busy site, nearly impossible to get a weekend pitch we found, despite this the wardens keep the whole site bright as a button. Showers are perfect - we loved great showers and this site has some of the best. No dreaded push button, plenty of hot water and decent water pressure in a clean and heated block - fabulous. Yes you can hear aircraft, would not say the site is plagued though - we found after an hour we didn't notice them at all - but then everyone reacts differently. Its no worse than many sites with road noise etc - don't let it put you off this is a brilliant site to see everything the coast and the city has to offer.

Booked two nights stayed one

Unfortunately, as others have highlighted, the site is plagued by aircraft noise. Flights every few minutes, easing off a bit at night although there are only about 4 hours with nothing scheduled. If you are prepared to put up with the noise then the site is good and in a good location for Edinburgh and the local promenade.
