Good for a City break

Just spent three nights here, site is very well run and the facilities just what you expect from the Club although outside dishwashing areas seems a bit Spartan for a site open all year round. It is also close to a large rundown social housing estate. Do take your earplugs though as there is a lot of aircraft noise but it is a City location so you can't expect it to be quiet. The biggest drawback for us was the 15 minute walk to the nearest bus stop along an unlit road but the bus fares are cheap £4 for an off peak day ticket and the buses are frequent, recommend the no 27 as it passes through some "nice" areas, passes the entrance to the Botanic Gardens and conveniently goes down Hanover Street in the heart of the New Town.

Noise is an issue

I note comments made by others who have stayed at the Edinburgh site. No doubt the location is excellent together with the usual facilities that the CC offers but there is undoubtedly a noise issue from aircraft landing at the local airport. Of course we are all different and what amounts to excessive noise by some does not worry and annoy others. However the Club should at least draw attention to a potential annoyance and let people decide for themselves. We counted over ten aircraft landing after 11pm at night (one at 2.30am).

Top site well done warden and team

Just had another 8 night stay at what must be one of the best sites around. Everything about the site just shouts quality and professionalism, we've been using this site since the year after it opened it's fantastic watching planes from all around the world coming into Edinburgh, even an RAF C17 coming in low and slow, a fantastic site for an over aged child. The walk out to Crammond over the causeway at low tide is a must, the beach is great for our dogs, as is the whole walk to the wee pub at Crammond which is dog accommodating. The site staff really are top class, even when we accidentally overstayed our leaving date the extension was organised over the phone whilst we were in the city, can't praise the team high enough. Everything needed is around the site with easy access early morning bakers and 24 hr. supermarket. It's a shame Lothian transport never reinstated the bus service outside the gate. Don't be put off by spurious complaints of aircraft noise, the only time you'll notice is when there's nothing happening, get flight radar 24 on your phone or IPad and track what's in the sky. Great on site dog walk on site if it's needed and a good wee shop. Get it booked.

Great location, Pitch Carefully

Fantastic location for visiting Edinburgh, and would use again for a 'City Break', however as mentioned by others aircraft noise is constant throughout the day, and a little through the night. Also half of the fully serviced pitches are next to a road side, these were the only ones available for our stay and road noise is an issue albeit that it does die down late evening until early morning. My advice would be to pitch on the far side of the site, away from the road.

Shame about the aircraft noise day and night

We stayed at Edinburgh site from 3rd to 11th Sept 2017,and agree with other reviews that the site is excellently located for Firth of Forth for walking and off road cycling, and is only a short walk to the bus into Edinburgh which at £1:60 per journey beats taking and parking a car. The site and facilities are well cared for and the wardens are friendly and helpful. We must how ever point out the frequent and low aircraft approach to Edinburgh airport and unlike the other review which mentions only light air traffic and only in the day we must strongly disagree ,may be we were there at a different time of year but we had planes landing every 15 to 20 minutes during the day and the last one at night went in around 2:30 AM and they began again at 5:30 AM so only a 3 hour break during the night . We understand the club will not mention the aircraft traffic but we must make future visitors aware of the much disturbed nights we experienced. We will think twice before revisiting which is a shame .

Well done Edinburgh

We stayed on this site when it was run by Edinburgh Corporation and it was great then. After some years it did not disappoint then location was great and we left our Motorhome on site for the entire time that we were there and used the buses which were brilliant. Thank goodness as the traffic problem in Edinburgh are far worse than London! The site itself is very well kept and the wardens as usual are great, we will be back.

Well-kept site

A very well-kept and efficient site in a great location for Edinburgh. We attended the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and caught the bus into the city. The walk to the bus stop takes at least 15 minutes (not great in the rain!) and there are no street lights, so if coming back after dark, take a torch. The buses are frequent and you never have to wait too long. Much better than trying to park in the city! We also visited the Royal Yacht Britannia which was a very interesting and entertaining afternoon; it is docked at Leith, a few miles from the site. We used the laundry on the site and this worked well. One thing we had not been prepared for was that the site is directly under the descending flight path of Edinburgh Airport, and although it didn't bother us too much, if you are noise sensitive you might find this annoying. There are occasional flights during the night and constant flights during the day. We were lucky to get a pitch away from the road, which could also be noisy. If you are thinking of going to the Fringe/Tattoo in August and booking at this site, book up early - the site was full the whole time we were there and they were turning people away every day. A good base anytime of year though.

Excellent site and excellent wardens

We stayed here in August 2017 to visit the Fringe. Transport into town is good and convenient. The site itself is excellent, beautifully kept by the wardens. The team of wardens are amazing, helpful, informative and friendly. On this occasion they helped us to problem-solve an issue we had with our gas regulator and were able to recommend how we might get help. The problem was all sorted in a couple of hours, enabling us to get on and enjoy the rest of our holiday. We can't praise them highly enough. They are a 5 star top team!!! Brian & Jean

Great Location for Visiting the Festival

Great site in a great position for visiting both Edinburgh and the bridges at Queensferry. Try to avoid a pitch close to the road but the staff were excellent in finding us a much preferred pitch. Bit of a walk to the local bus service into Edinburgh but an excellent service accepting how busy Edinburgh was at the time of the Festival. Great cycle ride through the Dalmeny Estate to the bridges at Queensferry.
