Location v. Noise

This is a great site, within 200 yards of the A1. It is clean, tidy and well laid out. Durham city centre is 3 miles away, with its cathedral, castle and riverside. We enjoyed a visit to a show at the Assembly Rooms - the student theatre for just £7 each. We also went to Sunderland to see a show at the Empire Theatre (park at Bridges multi-story for a 2 minute walk to the theatre) and on another trip to the National Glass Centre, which was excellent and free of charge! Beamish open air museum is about 25 mins drive from the site - 25% discount on presentation of your Caravan Club membership card! The location of the site is brilliant for these trips out. On a practical note head towards Durham on the A690, take the first exit (Dragonville/Belmont) and turn right when you get to the roundabout where you'll find a retail park with Pizza Hut and KFC, as well as a B&Q! A little further beyond this turn left at the lights and follow the road until you find a Tesco extra with an Aldi next to it. The down side of this CC site is undoubtedly the noise - the constant drone of traffic on the A1 was joined on icy nights by the noise of the council gritter depot which is next to the site. However, we did get used to the noise and think the advantages of the site do out way this.
