Great place to Visit Durham

We wanted a visit to Durham, unfortunately we choose the "Freshers" weekend with the new students at the University so Durham was heaving with new students and their parents. This made our stay less enjoyable, however we hope to visit again at a quieter time, the site is perfectly placed for a stop when travelling up to Scotland. The park and ride is a 15-20 minute walk away, not the easiest for anyone who is not good on their feet as it is next to to very busy roads with no proper pavement,

Our local go to Site.

This site is not far from where we live and although it is very close to the A1m you can very rarely hear the road at all. It is beautifully kept and the facility’s are spotless. Staff very friendly and helpful. Been a few times now allways a great experience.. Book early as it gets full (a lot).

Durham zgrange

Stayed here first time for 3 nights. Lovely site, easy to find, warm welcome, good location, excellent facilities - easy to get to P&R to go into Durham. Just need to take care crossing the roads. Perhaps not really suitable for children but fine for us as two adults doing a bit of sightseeing. Road noise not a bother.

Excellent site and amazing wardens

We stay here every weekend and some weekdays when off work. The site is always beautifully maintained, the Wardens are all amazing, nothing is too much trouble. Even on our first visit and we were newbies to caravans, the wardens were patient and really helpful, this has continued thought out our stays. This is our go to site, we rarely go anywhere else, it’s just not the same. Thanks so much Team Karen, Kev, Nicky & Mick. We appreciate you hugely, for all of your hard work. Well done Guys!

OK as a stop over

I should start by saying that we have generally stopped using club sites as they have become far too expensive for the facilities on offer. In other words, I find they offer poor value for money. The only exception is where the site is perfectly placed for where we want to be. Such is this site as it is perfectly located to break a trip up the A1 heading from one end of the country to the other. We booked a serviced pitch with awning for 3 nights in early July 2024, outside of school holidays. When we arrived mid afternoon, there was only 1 pitch available, so that was where we went... The club knows how long our caravan is as it is in our profile. I was really surprised at how small the pitch was. Lengthways, our Coachman twin axle just fitted onto the pitch and with the car to one side, there was no room left to erect our awning or sun shade. We were only the width of the narrow track away from the unit opposite and in fear of our A frame being hit every time the neighbour reversed out. And as we were opposite the dog walk, we had people walking across our pitch to "walk" their mutts. The site is convenient for Durham and Beamish, the staff are poite and friendly, but the site overall is far too expensive and in urgent need of redevelopment with more space between pitches. Just about OK for a couple of nights, but I wish we'd taken the hit on a few more miles to travel and gone to the nearby commercial site across the river.

Durham Grange

Pleasant enough site with well-spaced pitches and clean facilities. Ideal for overnight when travelling further afield. Because the site is surrounded by two major roads, A1(M) and A690, it is not easy to walk or ride a cycle off site. This is the only thing that I would consider letting the site down. For getting into the city, the park and ride facility - just over the A1(M) roundabout - were superb. £2.20 for an all-day ticket or if you have a bus pass, these can be used. With the A1(M) and A690 being in such close proximity, you get traffic noise all day and night. However, your brain soon filters it out and it is not a huge distraction. Overall, I cannot give the site more than 3 stars because of the foregoing. But if you don't walk or cycle, its proximity to the city makes it worth the visit.

Great site near motorway

Stopped here as visiting family, very convenient just off motorway. A little road noise but didn’t bother us. Very clean facilities and very friendly helpful staff. Will definitely come again.

Delightful Durham Grange

This is our second visit to the site, our first being well over 10 years ago and it was great to see a new wash & facilities block! Still same traffic noise but to be expected. However could still hear the birds signing from the fields next to the site. Busy & well used site with lots of foreign tourers, but many staying like us for a week. We were visiting family but went to see Gibside, Beamish and Crook Hall Gardens ( if going to Crook by MH make sure you arrive early to park). Walked into Durham from the site as weather was lovely using the warden's map and it took us under an hour, a lovely stroll along by the river. We also walked the other way alongside the river (towards the site) but gave up as it was too muddy at that time. Also used the warden's local map to go to the Spar in Belmont which wasn't too far but obviously have to cross the A690 which was OK. Enjoyed walking the dog alongside the fields listening to the curlews.

Brilliant site

Our first visit to this site but definitely not our last. Good sized pitches, lovely site. Nice walk in the woods for the dogs, great play area for the kids. Very well maintained site, very friendly helpful staff, a pleasure to visit & we hope to return soon.

First Visit

This is our first visit to this site, lovely warm welcome. I would say one thing be careful if accessing it from the North bound A1 as you need to swap into the middle lane of the dual carriage way to access the site. Everything was good, but the toilet and shower facilities where covered in a white dust on various occasions, looked like they hadn't been completely cleaned down. Minor gripe was lack of foot paths around the site to access the facilities especially from the pitches to the right of the toilet block. Also no heating on and water pressure a tad lacking. MH Service point is pretty much the wrong side of all UK motorhomes. Requiring a long hose to be used. Great access to Park & Ride into Durham, but don't try to walk it, very dangerous roundabout to cross. There is dedicated MH parking but they where happy for us to use a car parking space in our 6m van conversion. Only 10 miles to Beamish also
