This is a beautiful site and we were made to feel so welcome, but this time we were camping and feel that the pitches for tents are not suitable, there are only 2 pitches for tents and are on the lowest part of the site where water seems to drain off to and they are the furthest from the facilities. The pub up the road is outstanding for meals.
We stayed here just 2 nights. We were warmly welcomed and wardens had no problem with us moving pitch the following day. Lovely site, beautiful beach, stunning location. We had a lovely meal at the nearby hotel which was about 10 minutes walk. Great cycle to Dunnet Head too.
This is a lovely site in a superb location, next to a wonderful bay. We enjoyed a relaxing and peaceful two-night stay, taking long walks on the beach and watching two great sunsets. Our dog, Geordie, really enjoyed his long walks on the sands. We took the Motorhome out on a short scenic drive to Dunnet Head, which is so much more impressive than John O’Groats! Dunnet Bay was one of the highlights of our tour of north east Scotland.
Never travelled up this far in Scotland and came across this campsite - what an absolute gem of a place. Had a wonderful pitch overlooking the sea with and gate leading directly from the site to steps straight onto the beach. Breathtaking views and sunsets make this a fabulous place to completely chill out.
The site has fantastic facilities, spotlessly clean with wonderful hot showers, washing machine, tumble dryer and washing up room as well as a great “library” room providing lots of local info and leaflets.
The icing on the cake is the people managing the site. Diane and Bernie were so welcoming and friendly, right from the start - even when we made a mistake with filling the water! They really helped to make our stay perfect. Even our dogs were made so very welcome and made friends with their two dogs, Willow and Woody!
You’ll be making a big mistake if you don’t stay at Dunnet Bay!
The site is exposed to the wind but it is in such a beautiful location it really does not matter. The facilities are excellent and the wardens were very friendly and went beyond what was required of them. My dog was made welcome by the wardens and their two dogs. Lots of waggy tails from all the dogs at this site.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and I was there for twelve nights. At first I wondered if we could fill the days with different things to do but we managed it and wanted to stagy longer really. Just being able to wander down on to the beach in the morning is wonderful. A great beach to surf at but too shallow probably for swimming unless it is high tide.
This site is well worth a stop over if your going to John O Groats. The site isn’t too big and very clean. The hosts were exceptionally helpful when they dried our washing due to broken tumble drier.
The beach is amazing and we saw a beautiful sunset from the beach.
Would definitely stop here again if we came up.
We were here just over a week ago doing the NC500 and wasn’t too busy. Might need to pre book in busy season.
Super site, straight onto beautiful beach, close to Thurso and John O'Groats.
Excellent facilities, clean and well maintained. Bookings and site well organised.
Only negative was they ran out of Ice-cream. Well it was the end of the season.
We were lucky enough to stay here for 3 nights on warm sunny days. On arrival the best seafront pitches were taken but still managed to get a good pitch, the best pitches became available the next day so asked to move and it was no problem at all. The site is perfect for access to the amazing beach, where you can walk for miles and a great location for visiting attractions. We really enjoyed our stay here. The only downside is the close proximity to the main road where road noise would be a nuisance for the pitches at the back of the site.
Great site right on the huge, sandy beach, with some rock pools when the tide was out. Clean, good facilities with a small shop. Some pitches are close to the road (these did not appear particularly flat), which can be noisy during the day but were quiet at night. Only a few pitches have sea views due to the high sand dunes. Within walking distance to the North Sands pub (fab food) and the Rock Rose Distillery. A road walk to Dunnet Head, which was particularly busy with cars and motorhomes passing by, who had chosen to drive and not walk (not our favourite walk as we had to keep getting off the road to let cars etc by), but amazing views once we got to the top. If we were in the area again, we would definitely return to this site.
We stayed here for 2 nights before going to Orkney on the ferry, then one night on our return before heading off home. The site is clean, tidy etc just like al club sites.. I agree that the pitches roadside can hear traffic but only up to about 9.00 pm when it quietens down. WE had 2 nights in middle of the site and one night roadside. We didn't really notice it at all with a a radio playing. We found it a great site to stop over, visit the Castle of Mey, Forsinard Flows (down a narrow road) and to Dunnet Head (another narrow road with passing places).
