Better than Spainish beaches

I thought we had arrived on the Mediterranean. The beach in on the doorstep. Haven't seen a better beach anywhere yet. Clean, no litter or plastic washed up rubbish. On site very clean facilities. Nice info area. Pitches nicely spread out. Didn't venture to the woods as my dog only wanted to have a run on the beach or go for a paddle. Beach was very quiet. Highly recommended if you are doing the NC500.

Dunnet Bay - Again

Our favourite campsite in Scotland. Good facilities on-site with the beach just outside and the forest just over the road. You can walk into Dunnet for the hotel and/or the distillery or along the beach to Castletown for a fish supper. Thurso and Wick provide most other nessecities. The Castle of Mey worth visiting for a fabulous walled garden. Many other beaches to visit in Caithness and Sutherland or the RSPB at Forsinard. Some interesting clearance villages to visit too. We hope you enjoy your visit as much as we did.

Just amazing

Fabulous site, really helpful wardens, views to die for, excellent facilities. We were parked at the top of the site by the road - no issue with noise at all and had better views than those at the front. Dog walk straight onto an amazing beach. Highly recommended

Recommend Dunnet Bay site

There was a little road noise with NC500 traffic. Fortunately we pitched the other side of the side by the beach. Great access to beach . Hotel/pub in walking distance. Good clean shower block and facilities. Manager of site very welcoming Stayed here for 4 nights during May , saw some amazing sunsets from the beach. Very relaxed and chilled site .

One of only two sites on the NC500 where we had to move pitches

Interesting site. Well located and great facilities. Easy walk down to the beach and friendly couple running it. So, what is the problem? We ended up next to a young family causing havoc. Never seemed to have campervanned before, turned up on the fly, had to buy membership to get access and spent 2 hours in the evening screaming and yelling outside, playing between the vans and slamming their doors like they only ever lived in barns. Rather than the site manager coming over and asking them to be respectful of other campers, they seemed to have formed some sort of friendship because the behaviour was overlooked in order to help them out. We ended up moving well away, unfortunately nearer the road, in order to get some peace an quiet. Nice site - but chose your pitch well. Shame it did not have the usual level of rule enforcement and gentle words to keep noobz managed properly.

Location, location, location

Locations dont get much better than this! In the dunes right on the edge of a long sandy beach. This was a one night stopover for us on the way back from Orkney but certainly a location we'd return to in future. Friendly welcome with lots of pitches to choose from. Some of the pitches back directly on to the road but wasnt much in the way of road noise to disturb you. Lots to do in the area so great base. And as the beach faces pretty well due west the sunsets really are amazing. Reckon it must get pretty wndy though Pretty standard CAMC facilities - not many showers and some of the facilities looking a bit tired but that seems quite common with maintenance programs all still catching up post-Covid. Having said that, the wardens were visible and working hard to keep everything as clean and bright as possible (a never-ending task if the sand gets whipped up by the wind).

Lovely location

Lovely site with a brilliant location right next to the beach. Friendly and helpful wardens. Easy access to site and pitch. Well looked after facilities, not overly busy and plenty of hot water. Busy site with lots of turnover as on NC500 route but still extremely quiet and peaceful. Lovely walks along the beach and lots of sightseeing. Other beaches and harbours to discover if driving a little further afield...We visited Sandside Bay at Raey, there's a beach, small harbour, toilet facilities. Grandkids loved exploring the rock pools at Portskerra harbour at Melvich. Weather was certainly varied during our stay with each day different, changing between sunny, windy, drizzle to thunder storm but then it is the highlands after all :-) We stayed 8 nights and loved every minute of it.

Short stay during tour of Scotland

Great location, easy access to a fantastic long and sandy beach. Wardens were very helpful and worked hard to keep the facilities sand free which is no easy task when this close to the beach and high winds. There are only 3 showers which lead to queueing a couple of times. This site is on the NC500 and is busy in a morning with people getting off on the next leg of their exploring. If using an awning you will need storm straps due to the wind which is constant. Lots to explore in the area such as John O Groats, Dunnet Head and Thurso.

Nice peaceful relaxing site

Lovely little site, perfect for a night or 2 stop over when touring the NC500. Beautiful beach and woodland to explore nearby and all the facilities you need onsite. staff are friendly and very helpful, we were given a choice of pitches when we arrived. Would stay again if visiting the highlands.

A breezy but comfortable stay

Stayed here for one night as part of the NC500. Staff were lovely and checked in on us as we were later than we said we would be arriving. Very caring. The campsite is in a perfect location, right on the beach. It is very windy here which staff say is normal. We thought it would bother us, but as long as you pitch up facing away from the wind, there's plenty of shelter. Decent selection of pitches, all on grass I think. Facilities are nice and clean with good water pressure - something important when you have thick hair! Big fan of the private wash basin cubicles - something I've noticed at most club sites. Unfortunately we could not take our dogs on the beach off the lead due to high numbers of Avian flu and thus dead birds, however this could not be avoided and is not the sites fault.
