Great site

Just back from a 4 night stay at this lovely site. We found the site clean and tidy, the pitches spacious and the grass well cut. The toilet facilities were also very clean and the shower cubicles had plenty of space and loads of hot water. The site is efficiently run by the hard-working team of wardens who were in evidence around the site most of the day. A special shout out for warden Billy who came to our rescue when he realised that our taxi had failed to show up to take us to a black-tie event 5 miles away. Thanks Billy!

A nice break

Having always gone west, we thought we would go east this year to see what Kent had to offer. The site is well kept, grass cut (unlike other reviews that said it isn't) and toilet block clean (apart from what other people leave behind-would they leave their one at home like that?!). The wardens keep themselves to themselves, but are friendly. Lovely large dog area, which was important to us. Kids play park is not how the picture shows, it has been updated and I would say is now significantly smaller, however, there is a play area, which is a large field for ball games etc. We found that the layout of the site, meant people cut through other peoples pitches, so little privacy and had kids cycling between our car and caravan as a short cut, luckily we escaped any scratches! Also, rules are not followed and dogs were in play park and play area - both clearly marked "No dogs allowed" - having kids and a dog, we understand why this is, and don't get why others feel they shouldn't follow the "rules"! Lovely walk along the Royal Military Canal and Brockhill Country Park is also a pleasant walk. Kids loved the local zoo too. All in all, a nice break, but site is let down by users and not the wardens!

Stop Grizzling!

We were due to go to Yorkshire in July but the weather didn't look too good so opted for Daleacres in Kent. Reading a few 'reviews' I thought "crikey, what are we letting ourselves in for, grumpy wardens, long grass, toilet block closed nearly all day". Arrived at reception & was met by a charming lady, booked in, found a lovely grass corner pitch & visited the shower block, all fine so far! Sat looking for the 'jungle style' six inch high grass, sorry but couldn't find it anywhere save a few 'seasonal' pitches with caravans on, yes they had grass growing underneath & possibly seasonal pitches shouldn't be on grass, but that's another matter. OK, lets start with the wardens: pleasant, hard working, not in your face kind of people so top marks from me! Shower block: Read a few reviews that people grizzled about the shower block being closed for 2 hours & "why does it take 2 hours to clean one shower block, disgraceful!" yes, the shower block closed at 10.30 but in most cases reopened around 12.00 making that 1.5 hours......so what? If you're desperate there are 2 loos opposite reception, use them! Grass: I saw the warden[s] out most days cutting the grass, cleaning the site, emptying bins. Apart from the odd seasonal, the grass was cut perfectly so why people were gripping over long grass, I really cannot fathom. 2 pubs nearby if you fancy a good pub meal, Shepherd & Crook [Burmarsh] 2 miles behind the site, Wednesday is BOGOF [buy one get one free] night, good food & good ales, well worth a visit. Botolph's Bridge Inn [300 yards from site] is busy & again has good food & service. If you fancy 'afternoon tea' try "Mary's Tea Room" in St Mary's Bay a couple of miles from Hythe, great tearoom with matching food, cream tea to die for! I would leave Lathe Barn for food if I were you, bad service, lousy cream tea & 'packet' latte! Walk or cycle into Hythe using the Military Canal then use the sea wall/front to walk miles & miles to Dungeness if you're brave! Have a go on the HR&D railway, nostalgia at it's best! Daleacres is not a 'flagship' site to be fair, perhaps the caravan storage area lets the look of the place down slightly, but it's a nice quiet site, 2 miles from Hythe & the sea [caravan club map has the sea much closer, trust me it isn't!] away from the main roads & has everything you need, simple as that. Reading some of the negative reviews did concern me, but on our visit we found the site ideal. Would I go back, yes I would!

More than just a stopover.

Our perfect site, peaceful and guiet. Dust off your bikes as there are miles of flat cycle routes and some great walking to be done. A two mile jaunt to the sandy beachfront of Dymchurch or an four mile scenic journey through the woods, down the military canal to a picturesque town of Hythe (where a must visit to the crypt of St Leonard's church to mingle with ancestors of years gone by) where a promenade takes you all the way to Folkstone. Walk up the hill and mingle with the safari animals before dropping down to "Warehouse one " with its own micro brewery. There is so much to see and do in the driest part of the country, so make it a destination instead of a stopover!

lopcation instructions are bad

Do not use your GPS to get there. Read the instructions in the Club book but important to note the error on the last line of the instructions "Site is on the left in 0.75 meters" this should read "Site is on the left in 0.75 Kilometers

1st visit but not our last.

Had 5 gloriously sunny days at Daleacres. The site was up to the usual standard. Toilet blocked closed from 10:30 for cleaning which proved a bit to early for our teenagers. The water supply was a considerable distance from our pitch, the shop did not sell pipe extentions, luckily we were able to borrow one. Lots of people riding bikes around the site, which is fine but not all observing the one way system and very few wearing head protection. Our car was nearly hit by one child who was cycling along looking over his shoulder and had not seen us stop to reverse onto our pitch. It was only a neighbour shouting at him that prevented him hitting us, and for the parents of the child riding around the site with a "motorbike sound sumulator" attached to his bike - WHY did you think that was a good idea ? Plenty to do in the surrounding area and we will visit again soon.

Where are the wardens?

We've been coming here for 25 years but haven't been for 2 years. The wardens were polite and friendly but otherwise anonymous. Don't get me wrong, no one likes a warden that is in your face, treats the site like it is his or her own property and attends the grass like it's a bowling green or cricket square and woe betide anyone who dares to walk on it, but the length of the grass here is rediculous. The bins need cleaning more frequently and I've been on a great many sites where the toilets are cleaned equally as meticulously as they are at Hythe without having to close them for a) 2 hours and b) necessitate closing the office for the same period of time plus another half an hour. We're gong to several other sites this year so presumably the grass length, closures etc will be similar for similar sized sites, with the same amount of wardens, we will see. The site itself was as peaceful and quiet as always, lovely walks from it and nearby as well as plenty of other attractions for all age ranges. We will come back as it is still one of our favourite sites within an hour of home and we love the area but will be looking at alternatives in the area both within and outside of the club.

Our thanks to the Wardens

I would like to say how wonderfully helpful The Site Wardens, Billy and Terri Hughes were when I had a vehicle problem during our stay at Daleacres, Hythe. Kent. It was Billy’s calming, polite and very helpful manner in assisting us that made our remaining stay so much more enjoyable. He and his wife Terri are a credit to the organisation and one to whom all Site Wardens should aspire to. Apart from that, the site was maintained in an immaculate condition. Grass mowed, toilets clean, rubbish areas clean and if ever there is a problem with cleanliness it's down to the users and not the staff who were on the go all the time. Thank you Billy and Terri once again.

Lovely site

We have been coming to this site for a number of years now. We love it. The dog walk on site is a good size for the early morning and evening walkies, and great walks along the canal to stretch ones legs. Downside for some dogs, is the noise from the nearby firing range, and if wind is in wrong direction can upset them, talking from experience. Facilities are fine, plenty of showers, toilets and wash cubicles. They are looking a bit dated though, and round the WHB area is full of limescale and doesn't look very nice, even though it is clean. Some money could be spent here. Nice selection of pitches, grass and hard-standing. We visited in April, where we hadn't had much rain for a while and the hard-standing lived up to its name for pegging out the awning - it was hard work putting pegs in and pulling out. We will go for a grass pitch next time! Come Friday night, a number of families arrived for the weekend. There are a lot of children cycling round and round on the main campsite road, not one had a cycling helmet on, some were even cycling when it was getting dark with no lights on, some cycling in the wrong direction and we witnessed a near accident where a young lad on was cycling in the wrong direction and a car was pulling away from it's pitch with caravan on back. A dog walker must have told the child to wait. Our hearts were in our mouths. Nobody wants a child to get injured, but campsites are not the place to cycle - there is too much movement, from all angles. Cycling should be banned. There's a playing field on this site, so that is where the children should be, safe. Great area, Hythe is lovely, you have the sea, and the canal.
