Nice site - and more inclusive for all

I spent a couple of nights at this site as I was traveling around Kent with my German Sheppard. The roads leading to this site were narrow( not the site's fault - but worth highlighting) however worth it . Not very busy when I got there so had a great choice of pitches- chose a ice grassy pitch away from everyone ( not everyone are keen on big dogs) Loved the dog walking field which I used daily. Also like the idea that there were pods and allowed tents. This encourages friends to get together even if they don't own Motorhomes or caravans- Tenting was how my family and friends were introduced to camping over 20 year ago and fell in love with it! Found the staff here to be friendly and helpful, grounds well kept and faculties very clean. You do need a car or bike to go anywhere as it is in the middle of the countryside . I enjoyed my time here.

POOR STANDARDS AND POOR FACILITIES

First the good point is that this site is in a fantastic location surrounded by beautiful countryside. Now the bad points are the washing machines are both out of use and have been for a long time, the games room is now closed and shows no sign of ever reopening, the childrens playground now has the main piece of equipment boarded off and out of use and the ground has a covering of pigeon poo, the grass is left very long and is not pleasant when on a grass pitch on wet mornings, what was once lovely planters are falling apart and empty, weeds are taking over the hardstanding pitches, this seems to be a meeting point for noisy mass gatherings and the Yurts generate a lot of noise ,it seems to be if you want to stay here you have to be accompanied by several barking dogs at all hours of the day and night.

Decline in standards

Having visited this site many times over our years of caravanning I can only say I feel it has declined in its standards. I feel this is partly due to the club and its maintenance programme as well as the move to more environmental compliances. The new system of a centralised waste point is OK but while there these large wheelie bins were smelling and I would suggest not very hygienic. During our recent stay we wanted to use the washing machines but found they were out of order something we only noted on our arrival despite these being shown as available on the site facilities page, also reading a previous review while onsite it appears these machines have been out of service for sometime. Shower head in the mobility facility was broken which we reported. I would have thought this would be picked up during cleaning. The footpath leading into the facilities block is still very uneven with 2 manhole covers protruding, something we mentioned the year before last year but still no action taken. Potholes are significant at the entrance as you are on site. Overall I feel this site needs an update particularly when you see the money club that being is investing in other sites.

Too many dogs, and what about the laundry?

On way home from Dover ferry, stayed a couple of nights to visit friends in Hythe. Yes, you can cycle or walk into Hythe along the Royal Military Canal (about 4 miles), though you need instructions on finding the canal path from the campsite - a ride of a mile along narrow lanes. No free info or maps of Hythe or the locality were available at camp reception, just booklets to buy. Not even a map on the info room wall. Games Room closed, so more children cycling and running round the site. And is it compulsory to have at least two dogs to guard your caravan and bark loudly at passers-by? Like others, I was told that both washing machines were Out of Order, that there was nowhere to hang hand-washing, and even that I should go to the launderette in Hythe! BUT when I complained to a different warden, she actually showed me how to use one of the washing machines, which just had a faulty switch, and it worked perfectly. The drier also works. She said the staff 'got fed up' of people coming to the office about the switch, so they turned it off. Previous reviews show this has been a long-standing problem. Not good enough - and I don't like being lied to.

Disappointed

Disappointed that standards are not as good as they used to be! The two washing machines haven't been working since the site opened, the games room has been closed for a long time but is still listed under site facilities. Vegetation etc is over grown, the bins have been removed apart from some large wheelie bins near the office. It appears that current management are only interested in profits and not members. In addition on sites people are leaving later than mid day causing issues on narrow entrance roads, many dogs on long leads or not tied up at all, and people not obeying the speed limit. Over recent years things have certainly gone downhill, when I first started with caravan club almost 30 years ago people obeyed the rules the sites were pristine and facilities were kept to a good standard, how times change, very sad. I am in no way criticising the wardens, they are just doing what they are told and are very helpful. I haven't found the live chat helpful it is obviously AI and doesn't understand!!

Lovely for us new to caravanning

Easy to find and good location for us oaps exploring in the car. we had motorhomes for years but sold up when so many sites were unnavailable during lockdown, then we “inherited” our precious young dog so we need an easy way to take him exploring with us & decided to try a touring caravan & Daleacres was recommended by friends for our first go at it. Lovely staff & friendly campers, the site was spacious and clean with a safe field for dogs to run & play. Luckily We only stayed one night (a few things to sort on our unit) as the the washing machines are out of order & I tried many times but could not get wi-fi. It was lovely to hear the train whistles and we found a great Thai takeaway at The Hope Inn, Hythe plus theres an Aldis, caravan & motorhome repairs and sales not far away on the main road . We will be back for longer but will check the site wifi & washing machines work befor booking for more than 3-4 nights.

Lovely Site —- BUT!

We are here at present and staying for just short of 4 weeks. We have stayed here for the past few years. As usual before we set out I checked the “before you travel” information, all good so on our way. On arrival one of the first things we noticed was the sign saying that BOTH washing machines were out of order, on discussion with the warden it seems these machines are becoming obsolete (they take coins not tokens) so are not financially viable for repair. Why was that info not flagged up on the site page? When you stay for more than a week these things are important. Secondly where are all the pretty flower raised beds gone? It seems that the wardens are doing a great job but are unsupported by the club.

Weekend with friends

We were booked for the weekend and cancelled just 24 hours before because the grass was wet and no hard standing available, so 2 nights only. I feel that this was poor because the state of the ground can be assessed before hand. Ruined the weekend. Note bins are no longer around the site.

Too many dogs

We live close to this site so it's easy for us to come for an early season visit. The new wardens seem to be coping well but I did not feel that on signing in campers were informed about the 5 mph speed limit as we witnessed vehicles far exceeding the limit Each time we visit there seems to be more and more members with dogs. This time we saw some couples with two and three dogs. On a daily basis some of these members stopped on the road in front of our pitch to allow their dogs to defecate. Yes the mess was picked up but it's not what I want to see as I'm eating my breakfast thank you. Members children are being charged for on all sites and to date I have not seen any kids going to the toilet on the pitch. Dogs however are allowed on site free of charge and can make as much mess as they like and yap and bark at every person or car that passes. It's time that the club woke up to the fact that not everybody likes dogs. In general Daleacres has a lot too offer visitors but beware its too dog friendly in our opinion.

Found a nice little site by accident!

We stayed for two nights midweek just before Easter. We shouldn't have been staying at this site, l thought l had booked for the Blackhorse site in Densole, (senior and blonde moment!!), as were wanted to see family in the area. And l am so glad we did, its a lovely little site, quite rural and unlike the Densole site no buses nearby, which as we have a motorhome is a consideration. Having said that only being about a hour from home we will take our car as well next time as we plan to take the grandchildren. Lovely and clean and the pitch, hardstanding due to the time of year was massive. The toilets were clean and as a previous reviewer said very dark at night because its so rural, added to the fact as you come out of the toilets there is quite pronounced raised manhole which to my mind is a trip hazard. The warden when we checked in did say people had said it was dark at night by the toilets, not sure if it was a light out or just bad lightening. Lovely washing up area. Nice little playground area for children which is good because there is a lot to do for children in the surrounding area. There was an information room with lots of leaflets, taxi firms etc and hopefully something you wouldn't need but it had a defibrillator in there. The warden checking us in was very pleasant and helpful. My main gripe is there was no WiFi, and while l note that sites are being upgraded it is something many people even us oldies want and need now, but if taking children unless very young tots its an issue in today's world. The Wifi had stopped working the previous week and hadn't been repaired apparently. But previous comments from last year l think its a bit of an issue. The only other possible issue is there is only one shower block and they were shut from 10.30-12 which while l appreciate they have to be cleaned l thought was quite early in the morning. The site wasn't very busy but not sure if that would be a bit of an issue in the busier season. All in all a nice site, and reasonable.
