Great Weekend
We stayed as a couple over the last weekend in February. We were lucky with the weather, which certainly helped. Friendly reception, very helpful, immaculately kept...what more can you ask?
About a mile out of Coniston village, with plenty of pubs, cafes and so on. An easy walk by the lake but narrow lanes - it is the Lake District after all - make it a perilous walk if you follow the signs at the site entrance. It's fine in daylight but not a walk to be undertaken at night, which is a shame.
We would recommend The Black Bull...good beer, good food, good atmosphere.
Good Lake District base
Arrived out of season (late February) to find under 20 units and plenty of space and choice to pitch even though some of the site was not open. Well kept site throughout, all facilities up to excellent CC standard. Good walks from the site and also good base to visit local attractions. Will return.

This was my first visit to Coniston and it wont be my last. The site is situated within easy walking distance of Coniston Village and all it has to offer- great dog friendly pubs! Walking in the area has something for everyone, easy lakeside walks to the wonderful fells.
The site and facilities were clean and well kept and the approach to the site from the south was no problem.
Finally, there was a very good mobile "Chip Shop" on site in the evenings!!
Above & beyond the call of duty.
Recently had a 5 day stay the week in our motorhome before half term & had some great weather which enabled us to really enjoy the super location & the abundance of walks around the site. With a five minute walk thru the campsite your on the bank of coniston water with lovely walks each way along the lake too. Coniston village is only a 30 minute walk in wonderful peace & quiet.
The village covers pretty much everything you might need including several nice pubs serving good food & beer brewed on the premises (The black Bull).
We had to cut our trip short due to me having a fall & hurting my shoulder on the Saturday morning and after several attempts to get a taxi to take us to Barrow in Furness A&E ( Wife can't drive the motorhome) we called an ambulance which duly arrived to then refuse to take me as I could still walk & had money to make my own way to casualty. I went to speak to Harry & Mary the wardens to see if they could sort a taxi for us & Harry insisted he would take me & considering they had many arrivals due for the start of half term he did so in his own car staying with me for about 4 hours & bringing me back late evening.
I would like to thank both Harry & Mary for their great kindness and for going that extra mile on my behalf. A great place to visit we will be back.
Second year as its that good.
Stayed at Coniston again in the Feb school hols as its a fantastic site. Wardens extremely helpful and cheerful, which always makes a difference to the holiday. The site was clean as all CC sites are. As the site is only partially open during the winter, this proves to be a fantastic adventure play park for my two young ones. We go deer spotting but tend not to see many as my kids aren't the quietist of ones. The dog loves the walks through arms around the site. Coniston is a short and pleasant walk away with so much to do. We tried The Ship Inn this year and that has quality home cooked food too!
All in all, I intend to book again either later in the year or again next year. Roads are a bit narrow but just take your time in getting there and use the directions provided by CC as any other way in is a bit more tricky.
Great long weekend shame about the weather
First time we have stayed at this site and couldn't have been made more welcome by the wardens, the pitches were in pretty good nick considering the February weather and drained well in the heavy rain. Coped well with a large motorhome. The facilities as usual were spotless and warm. At the bottom of the site there are lake side walks to Coniston village about 1.5 miles and easy going with a good selection of pubs and eateries. We particularly liked the Black Bull which had good selection of beers wines and food. The only down side to us for this site is the approach to it on public roads which are inadequate for a vehicle 2.35mtrs wide not counting mirrors so please take care when using this road. Other than this niggle this site was good, lots to do within walking, running, cycling distance. Equally good for families, couples etc.
Lovely New Year break
A really enjoyable stay made better by some of the most pleasant CC wardens on the network. A genuine warm welcome and very helpful. Must visit again during the summer.
Great Place

Even the Sunday roast we had in the pub was excellent.
