Peace and quiet

We booked into this site expecting the usual caravan club excellent facilities.  We were not disappointed. It was out of season therefore the site was quiet, on arrival the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and we appreciated the relaxed atmosphere.  A special delight was the variety of pitches, in a number of varied locations with very different aspects.  We chose a pitch that was sheltered and sunny with views into the trees.  It was a pleasure to sit by the van and listen to and watch the birds.  The only caveat I have is that the lake cycle path was not the gentle pedal we expected.  Some parts of the route were very demanding, not to say tyre shredding, though the views were always good. The local roads were not my idea of fun for cyclists, so the bus service from the village was most useful.  We'll be back!

A welcome in the hillside

This is a lovely site built on different levels which makes it interesting. The wardens were very helpful and friendly and we felt welcome there. it is well situated in a village and there are regular buses to Bangor or Aberystwyth and this route runs to Porthmadoc and Caernarfon. It was mid season so it was very quiet. There is an adventure playground for children and a dog walking area.

Perfect base to explore Snowdonia

A beautiful site in a perfect spot to explore Snowdonia. The site has a lovely lay out, with some large pitches, very friendly wardens and beautiful surrounding scenery. Ok, the village is small and quiet, but bring your own BBQ and beer/tea and sit under the stars. Lambs, buzzards, wildlife all around. So much to do in the area for outdoor lovers...... walked the circumference of Trawsfynedd reservoir, visited Portmeirion, explored the beaches of the Llyn Peninsular, climbed Cnicht 'the Snowdonia Matterhorn', walked from Beddgelert along the Glaslyn river, hunted for easter eggs around Penryn Castle (NT), picnic at Borth y Gest, and walked the sweeping beach to the lighthouses at Ynys Llanddwyn on Anglesey. Just not enough time to do everything...... so we will definitely be back. The play area for the children was great, and new friends were made. The showers were hot and spacious and the children loved doing the site treasure hunt. If you like a nice pub with wood fire and the dirty boots and chitter chatter of excited mountain walkers then eat at 'The Snowdon' at Rhyd Ddu. The highlight was packing up the awning in the snow (for the children anyway!!! :0)

Great Easter Stay

Stayed second week of our children's Easter Holidays and have to say what a fantastic site. Haven't been to Wales for a while but will be back and definitely to this site. Agree with previous reviews stating not much to do local walking distance but that didn't affect us too much as we get out and about in the car. Quite central to a lot of attractions mid-north Wales so great base to get around and about. Occasional early morning fast jets noise around as this is very close to the Mach Loop (RAF low level training area). It was one of our to do's to see some fast jets so no issues for us. The jets didn't interrupt the fantastic early morning bird song, what a gem of a site. Will hopefully be back very soon.

Not so good for motorhomes

The site is in a lovely setting, peaceful and quiet with views over the hills.  but quite a distance to local shops. Site is spotless and there is an annex toilet block clean but could do with more showers when site gets full. Satellite Tv reception is very good, the trees don't block the view as they do on many sites. Wifi just as slow as every other site. The downsides for motorhomes who don't want to travel are that there is nothing local. The pubs are shut and no restaurant unless walk 45-60 mins. There are no shops and Gellidyan like many welsh villages is suffering. There are a few walks directly from the site but many were very boggy and we couldn't get down to the lake. A new access road is being built to the disused power station for decommissioning I assume. Good for a couple of days but not enough to do locally.

Peace and Quiet

Just spent 4 nights at this site. The first time visiting and got a warm welcome from two of the wardens who had worked at Looe site previously. Never saw the other two wardens. Where told that the other wardens don't like dogs in reception office but no sign saying no dogs. !!!! The site is in a lovely setting but quite a distance to local shops. Site is spotless and toilet block clean but could do with more showers as only three in the men's is not enough when site gets full as it did at Easter. Dog walk only small but does allow dogs to be off the lead.  The site is open entrance with no barrier. Can never understand how the club doesn't have barriers on all sites. Tv reception is average there is no booster points only a site TV aerial upgrade which when sited near trees doesn't give much help. Wifi just as slow as every other site and in this modern age the club is still behind times.

Windy Easter

Access to this site is not difficult.  The site entrance being just 100m or so from the A487.  Nice friendly warden son site at the time of visit. This is quite a large site that is split into smaller pitching areas, each giving a different outlook.  The site is mostly hard standing so make sure that you have GOOD rock pegs with you as there is rock just below the gravel dressing. Reception sells a few essentials, which is good as the nearest shop is a few miles away.  For a bigger shop Porthmadog is home to a few larger supermarkets.  Porthmadog also has two caravan accessory shops as well as numerous outdoor shops, including the Gelert outdoor superstore. The site is well kept and the shower block was warm and spotlessly clean.  You can ignore previous comments about the toilet block being tired as some people need to readjust their expectations a little, you are paying to stay at a campsite not a 5* hotel. The site has a newly installed booster system, but ensure that your ariel in in direct line of sight to one of the transmitters and no trees block the signal.  Most pitches are spacious but be prepared for noise if choosing one adjacent to the lane, Lorries start using it at 7.30am and the farmer who owns the yard opposite is none too quiet when he goes about his business.

Great location and nice site

For our first visit to North Wales we found the location spot on. It is within easy reach of many local attractions, Snowdonia, mountain biking trails, walking and the coast. Regretfully for us the weather wasn't too kind but we managed avoid the hail and enjoy the countryside. The staff were friendly and helpful and the site was clean and well looked after. The blocks look old and tired but are absolutely fine and not over crowded given the site was full for Easter weekend. A definite return visit planned but hopefully in he summer when the views etc would be superb.

Lovely Site

Arrived on site to a lovely welcome by all members of staff. Facilities spotless no compliants. The wardens worked tirelessly  to ensure the site was perfect for Easter. No compliants until thoughtless campers continually used the grass pitches near the Reception area as a dog toilet. Morning, noon & night. People are eating please be considerate to your fellow campers also other members will be using it soon.  Maybe a few signs to say this is not a dog walk!!
