First Visit

This was our first visit to this site. It was only 90minutes from home, can't believe we had not been here before. The site was very well looked after and facilities very clean. One of the toilet blocks had a faulty boiler but there was no shortage of hot water. Could have done with a bit of heat in the block. The area around was easy accessible for walkers and cyclists. Overall a great weekend and will be going back.

Disappointing

We have been using Clumber for many years, both as a base to explore the area, and as a stopover due to its convenient location just a few miles off the A1. One of my personal gripes for many years, the site was always fully booked over protracted weekend periods due to members making block bookings at the start of the season and then cancelling at the last moment if the weather looked bad. It would appear the Club's more recent policy on late cancellations is working as we managed a weekend break on this visit. We had been away for almost a month and Clumber was a last stop of the six sites we've stayed on this trip. I'm not sure how to word this, but if I say we had five previous warm arrival welcomes with often a good degree of friendly banter, the sixth was somewhat mediocre! Is this as a result of the expected stress to staff on a Friday evening invasion of weekend arrivals? Clearly we had an unexpected choice of available pitches mid afternoon, with all nearly taken by late evening. Not for the first time I had a namesake also arriving on the day, and yes I had been tagged as the the wrong option on the site's arrival list. My wife went to the office to advise which pitch we had taken to be asked had she brought our card as they had to amend the mistake, to which she replied a rather obvious No! The response was oh we'll have to amend, the tone not exactly apologetic for a mistake not of our making. When I returned with the payment card, I was given a somewhat curt reply of we've got it sorted. Before, when such an incident has happened, I've had the wardens coming to my van offering an apology for the mistake and inviting me to call at the office when next passing, something of a different approach. I didn't find the toilet block a problem, other than the shower cubicles somewhat small by usual standards, but my wife felt the ladies block was looking decidedly tired. Communication with the outside world has always been a problem, but there is a spot on the dog walk where I've always been able to get a mobile signal. Unfortunately, the forestry commission were felling/maintaining trees and the walk closed. The alternative was to email, and as it states in the General Site Information -- Wifi internet access is available on site. Please ask Wardens for details, and the answer from them -- it hasn't been available for ? Having just invested in a year's subscription to have Internet access on club sites, I am somewhat disappointed is an understatement. If, as was suggested in conversation there are problems of getting cabling into the site, then the alternative of a satellite connection has to be considered. There are other providers than Sky! How long is it going to be before members understand what 5 MPH is? In recent years 5 mph in vehicles I've owned is first gear and no more than 1200rpm, in fact 1st gear and the engine on tickover without touching the gas pedal gives 4mph with the present set of wheels. When one observes people a

Another peaceful break

We visit Clumber at least once a year when there are special weekends in the walled kitchen garden where my wife is a volunteer gardener. We have always found the site to be well kept, generally peaceful and with good quality facilities which are kept really clean by the friendly team of wardens. There are lots of attractions in the area for visitors from further afield. My slight disappointment was that, on a cold autumnal day when TV viewing was the order of the evening, the signal from the site booster system was poor and we kept losing signal. This was particularly the case on Sunday evening. All in all though, Clumber is an excellent site on which to relax. Forget your wifi and your mobile and enjoy the peace.

Ticks The Boxes

We use Clumber Park as a base when in the area visiting relatives. During our last stay, the site was almost full and it felt incredibly busy and claustrophobic. However, on this visit, the site was pretty quiet and what a difference it makes. Plenty of walking straight out of the site. Good sized pitches and friendly wardens. However, if you want/need the WiFi - forget it!! As others have said, mobile phone signals can be picked up out and about in the vicinity.

Excellent break at Clumber Park

There have been a number of bad reviews in the past few months at Clumber and having just returned from a weekend away thought we would share our experience. We are regulars to this site as it is local to us. The site was clean and the flowers on the reception area for this time of year were amazing. The grass areas were tidy and recently cut. The welcome and the wardens have always been great. No complaints. The pitches are large and some or shady and quiet and some are sunny and in the middle of things. The site doesn't have wifi or even mobile phone signal but this is easy to resolve. Simply walk out of the entrance to the end of the drive and turn left. Walk up the road for about 100yards up a small hill and you will not only get full signal but 4G! You also get it turning right at the end of the drive and walking back to Lime Tree Avenue and heading left back up towards the main entrance. The toilet blocks are clean and we have never been short of hot water or had to queue, they are a little tired looking and perhaps could do with a refurb. The play area looks fabulous for the kids but we don't use it. The dog walking and cycling around Clumber Park is second to none. There have been thefts for a long time and some recent ones that we know about but the wardens always ask if you have bikes and offer the lock up service. It is a busy popular site and we can't wait for winter because people tend to stay at home and it is even more picturesque and relaxing when it is quiet. Hope this might help some people when thinking about visiting Clumber Park.

One Disable toilets unit for the whole site

Lovley site, there was no wifi at all. Only one disable toilet unit for the whole site, there are two toilet blocks with no indication or notices when you arrive as to which block it was in, We chose a pitch very close to the one that didn't have the disable toilet unit, after the trip to the other block it was mostly always engaged.

Last minute weekend away

We booked a space at Clumber last minute as we have not long owned our caravan, and its only 20 minutes drive from where we live. Whilst there we felt like we could have been anywhere. It was a nice and relaxing site with really helpful staff on the reception who will do all they can to help you. The pitch was large and the roads make it easy to get the caravan into position. Taking 2 dogs with us we chose a pitch near a gate so we had easy access to the woods and massive walks around Clumber. Very enjoyable weekend away ?? We will be staying here again thats for sure.
