Great Site - Shame About The Access Road

This is still a GREAT site but its a real shame that nothing has been done about the appalling access road that suddenly appeared over the last year. If I wasn't mistaken it has been deliberately designed to cause maximum stress to caravan and campervan owners when arriving after a long drive. The boulders have been placed to cause maximum damage to outfits if struck. Being covered by weeds and grass doesn't help either. Can anyone answer why they have been placed alongside the new narrow entrance road and what purpose do they actually serve? It must have cost a lot of money to put them there so someone is determined to make the access as difficult as possible. When you begin to enter or leave the site with your outfit you take a big gamble and just hope you don't meet another unit coming in the opposite direction. Also the inadequate passing laybys are just too small for even small caravans to get into. I cannot believe an organisation as large as the Caravan and Motorhome Club hasn't got the resource to persuade the local authorities to get this sorted (as a bare minimum get the boulders removed !) even if they are apparently tenants. It must put a lot of people off visiting the site which surely is not good for local commerce?

Lovely site.

Really nice site with good sized pitches although avoid the one with the falling damsons as would attract lots of wasps. Nice walk through the park and the town really pretty with lots of little nooks and crannies to explore. Friendly wardens and good facilities.

Excellent site within close proximity to beautiful Cirencester,

A superb site with all the amenities, a beautiful walk through Cirencester Park takes you to the gorgeous town of Cirencester with superb restaurants and coffee shops. Only one fault please get the hedge repaired between pitches 198, 199, this will prevent a short cut for those who can't be bothered to use the correct route.

Lovely stay , very impressed

No problem with access road in a campervan Lovely big spacious site with good choice of pitches Food vendors each night of our 3 night stay Thursday to Saturday . Pizza , Mac n cheese , burgers, fish and chips Beautiful walks in the Bathurst Estate , through to the town only 20 mins . Disappointed that we could not use our bikes though , it’s not allowed on the estate , it would be useful if this was pointed out in the site description Lots of pubs , cafes and shops in the town including Tesco and Waitrose . Also an outdoor swimming pool within walking distance Immaculate site with two toilet blocks, cleaned in the afternoon , which was much more convenient than the normal morning routine Stayed Aug 2021

Nice site, once you negotiate the access road

Let's get this out of the way first... the access road into the site (about 400-500m long) is tricky. Large boulders sited on either side of the road make you cautious but they don't really come into play as there is limited passing on the entrance lane. The passing places are too short for big rigs (ie double axles) and so if you meet something large coming the other way then there WILL BE an issue. Also on departure the exit is blind and so you can't even phase your exit with those coming in (applies on entry too, I suppose). Add to this the building work going on which partly uses the access lane and the Cricket & Tennis club traffic using the same lane, it all gets a bit messy. As others have said there is a new pay and display carpark being commissioned just at the start of the access road and as we arrived we had to drive around a digger and on exit it was left partly across the access road and cars could not see us coming. Caution is needed. I'm surprised that with the building of the car park the college hasn't extended the road (or built second one and introduced a one way loop). I have to say (as others have) the caravaners' needs have not been fully considered here. Once in, the site is big with choices of grass and hardstanding the facilities are new-ish though the top washroom had limited showers working due to a boiler problem. Everything you'd expect from a CAMH site.. but nothing much more. Location wise the site cannot be faulted as it is a short and easy walk into town (walk via the cricket club, hopefully the tennis mums won't mow you down in their haste to get to their match!). But until they sort the access road out, I'll only return as a last resort.

One of the best sites

We love this site and have just booked to go back for the 4th visit. Lovely pitches, friendly wardens and very clean. Great for dog walking and close to Cirencester, approx 20 min walk through the charming Bathurst estate. It’s great for dogs as there’s a large dog area, rather than a narrow strip. Aug 21

Lovely site

Usual high standard we get from C&MC sites. It was very busy but everything ran smoothly and we were in a quiet spot so it suited us. The visiting 'food' vans were very good and we tried something different, which was great. We have been before and this time were confronted by the large, jagged boulders placed along the approach road, which has turned it into a difficult approach. The road is used by the C&MC and by users of the nearby cricket and tennis club. When towing, we got in and out fine as we did not meet anyone. However, I reversed to allow a towing unit out at the top of the road and it was quite a difficult manoeuvre. I'm a confident and able 'reverser' but if I had to reverse the caravan at this point, it would have been difficult, if not, impossible without unhitching. I assume the college has implemented this to plant wildflowers and grass - maybe to offset the huge car park they have covered with tarmacadam! I'm hoping the C&MC pick up on these issues as I get a clear message that the needs of caravaners are not considered.

Lovely site in a beautiful location

Firstly and to agree with a few of the previous posters, the access isn't the best and could do with some amendments but it is OK if you take your time. A lovely site in a great location with superb access to a HUGE park and a nice walk into Cirencester town. For us the Park was absolutely wonderful (15,000 acres) and we even got to watch a high class Polo match on Saturday, a first time experience and very enjoyable. A little "confusing" trying to settle on a pitch but maybe it was because it was our first time there, we had a walk around and now know where we would prefer next time. Overall I would definitely recommend.

Last minute booking

We made a fairly last minute booking as the weather forecast was looking so good. I had seen a previous review about problems with the approach road and indeed it was a problem. Nothing to do with the club but there are large boulders placed on the verge. Not helped by a lot of members leaving the site at 1.15pm when they are expecting 100 arrivals. We were checked in in double quick time and were able to secure a lovely pitch. The 5 nights we stayed were baking hot but we had some nice tree shade. It was great to be able to have visitors on site again. Despite being very busy, the staff managed to maintain everything to the clubs normal high standard. The site is right next to Cirencester Park. It is a pleasant 15 to 20 minute walk through the park into the lovely town of Cirencester. Nice dog walk on site and plenty of places nearby where you can let your pooch run free. The other good thing is that there are different street food vans on site most evenings. We bbq’d most evenings but had the Sri Lankan food one night. There is some building noise during the day, didn’t bother us, but could be annoying on some pitches. All in all, we had a lovely stay and will be back.

Two Disappointing Visits

having visited this sites numerous times over the years, we thought it would be an ideal stop over on both legs of our holiday in North Devon. We stayed on the night of 18th July on the outward leg and the nights of 24th and 25th on the return leg. Our visits therefore "straddled" the Covid-19 rule changes. On both visits we were appalled at the state the Gents toilet facilities were left in. Site staff can only do so much and I hesitate to point the finger at club members, but several cubicles were left in a truly disgusting (and unusable) state. It was noticeable that for our second visit site staff had left toilet brushes in prominent positions in each cubicle. Not that this appears to have had the desired outcome. This is not something that we have encountered in all our visits to club sites. Otherwise other aspects of our visit, like the welcome and the helpfulness of site staff were well up to the standard that we have come to expect.
