Beautifully Maintained but Hectic and Overcrowded

I feel as though we must have been on a different site to most other reviewers! There is no doubt the site is well placed and beautifully maintained, but the pitches are meanly sized, there isn’t much privacy and it’s an overcrowded site with a somewhat challenging approach. Approaching from the A619 from Chesterfield takes you through a relatively built up area which creates its own challenges. Entry to the campsite is strictly and sensibly controlled as the access road is mainly single track with several pinch points. Once you get onto the site actually getting a large 8ft wide twin axel onto your pitch can also prove ‘interesting’. Our ‘super pitch’ hilariously located down the side of the toilet/shower block meant we were subjected to a never ending stream of people going back and forth and it was like being in a goldfish bowl. Having a chemical toilet emptying point actually on our pitch was a great feature though. There was a never ending cacophony of barking dogs on the site at all hours with owners seemingly oblivious to them. The site is well located and the surrounding area is lovely, but local amenities are few and far between and you have to go back into Chesterfield for supermarket shopping. WiFi is dreadful and we were unable to use it at all. TV reception is poor and aerial points would be a great addition. For us it simply didn’t provide the experience we wanted and have found elsewhere.

Chatsworth is one of our favourite sites and we're lucky as it's less than an hour from home.  There's a Co-op in Baslow and a larger one in Bakewell and also an Aldi in Bakewell and a Spar in Calver so you clearly didn't explore enough to find the local amenities. No need to go back to Chesterfield at all unless you prefer the mega stores like Tesco and Sainsbury, although there is a large Sainsbury in Matlock.  But why use a supermarket - the Farm Shop is expensive but you cannot beat the quality and yo get 10% off using the voucher given to you at check in and there are lots of small local food shops in Bakewell that need to be supported far more than the big supermarkets.  Living so close we go to the Farm Shop regularly anyway! That reminds me it's time for the Christmas order :-)

I do agree that some pitches lack space and I think the service pitches are the worst in that respect.  We will be very sad when it closes.
