Mid week break

Our first visit using our free night voucher. Super location with direct access to the Chatsworth estate. The dog area is great as they can safely be off lead, running around the trees and chasing the squirrels! Amazing food from pie truck on a Wednesday. Lots of lovely walks from site.

Times are changing

Chatsworth is a popular choice for weekenders and for special events held on the estate. Invariably you will have to book a pitch 12 months in advance for these popular events. The site is busy at weekends and school holidays but quiet in the week outside this period. Pitches can be under trees with acorns dropping in Autumn and added noise if raining. TV reception is poor. Facilities are of the usual high standard except the Elsan disposal was not available on our visit on the fully serviced pitches. You should not be tempted to arrive before 1300 as the road is closed for access at the far entrance near the main road and they do not open the road until 1300 precisely. This creates the usual 1300 hr scramble for the best pitches commonly known as "wacky races" by the wardens. If you have booked a fully serviced pitch then these are invariably pretty good. Rumours on site suggest that by Dec 2025 this will be the last year for the site. The rumour appears to be backed up by the CC&MH club purchasing the site at Lickpenny near Matlock which is not far away which has far better access, and perhaps the space for glamping pods. A move I can see campsites moving to, varying their offer to cater for changing demands and preferences.

Great location

Chatsworth site is very well situated for chatsworth Estate were their are some brilliant walks throughout the estate and beyond . The site itself is very clean and tidy and the staff are extremely friendly and helpfull. I personally find the cobbled yard on entry a bit annoying bouncing your caravan about but I'm sure their is a reason for it. A visit too the chatsworth farm shop is a must' but be prepared to spend as it isn't cheap. For dog owners the exercise area is brilliant were you can let your dog off the lead for a run about. Sunday nights their is a pizza van on site and the pizza's are very good. Although this isn't one of the cheapest club sites purely for its location its well worth a vist.

Our favourite site

Had our second stay at this lovely site in July. It is expensive but you know that when you book. The whole site is extremely well looked with the very helpful staff either cutting grass, clipping hedges or generally tidying. Although there is only one toilet block - which is spotlessly clean - it was never busy so one is probably enough. Noted the comments re rats. Yes we also observed a rat but we also saw a pest controller working on site so they are aware of the problem. Unfortunately the problem isn’t helped by people throwing out food for the ducks. We saw one lady emptying an entire packet of Weetabix to feed them - as well as feeding the ducks they are feeding the rats. Perhaps notices to discourage people from feeding the ducks could help the problem. Having key access to Chatsworth Park is great and a lovely walk up to the house. We didn’t go round the gardens as we thought £20 per person was a bit pricey. Such a lot to do in Derbyshire from this site. The brilliant Chatsworth farm shop and the garden centre not far away together with a large selection of beautiful country houses to visit. We will definitely be going back to this lovely site.

Fabulous!

We love this site. Peaceful, green, well spaced pitches. Friendly helpful staff and your own gate key to access Chatsworth Park and Baslow. No need to get your car out a wealth of walks on your door step. To improve... charge more deposit, to stop people booking and then not turning up as the site is frequently fully booked in peak months. Can the food vans and dates be advertised on web page so we can plan our takeaways?

Amazing staff

We recently stayed at this site having been there last year. It's clean, tidy and in a great location with short walk to village and Chatsworth House. The staff work tirelessly trimming hedges and grass. We were unfortunate to have a disaster with our wind out awning but Stuart, Kay and Andy were on hand immediately with step ladders and tools and soon had the wrecked parts removed with the rest wound in so we could return home. The staff could not have been more helpful. We will definitely be back.

Very lucky

Having read these reviews on our return home I’m really surprised. We enjoyed every moment at Chatsworth. Yes it is expensive especially when my daughter arrived and it was another 16 something pound per night. It was also more expensive than Poolsbrook BUT we saw that as our free entry in to the grounds of the Chatsworth estate for which you have your own key we spent a very hot evening up there taking pictures of the river and the house at sunset. It really is so close. The next day we went up again and all around the shop. If we had longer we may have gone in but you’d pay that annyway. The surrounding anrea in just beautiful. Our pitch was very roomy no 88. We moved as soon as a van departed as some parts are shady.. ..we saw one rat but that was after we fed the ducks on our pitch and the site seem to be trying to control them. The site staff couldn’t have been more helpful helping us move sites and helping a friend who had booked elsewhere. They were very friendly too. We are used to the rules and regs but that’s what keeps it safe and tidy. They were efficient not bossy. It was all very clean.

Felt Very Compact

Overpriced for such a small pitch, it's even worse if you pay for a super pitch like our friends did. They paid the extra for a "super" pitch only to find it very cramped where neighbouring units felt almost on top of you. The whole site felt very claustrophobic within a walled enclosure. Like previous reviews, I also witnessed rats running around (I know, I used to own a pest control business some years ago). Three of the four staff would do everything to avoid any form of contact with you and only the tall warden Andy (I think was his name) was very polite and helpful. Facilities were clean even though there is only one ablution block, and as with all these sites, an endless list of rules and regulations that quite frankly I've stopped reading. Nice walks into the Chatsworth estate, however Chatsworth charge £20.00 per person just to enter their gardens. Whilst this is not the clubs fault, it worth mentioning just to let others know. Overall I don't think we'll be returning at almost £160.00 for three nights, I feel there are much better sites to stay at with much nicer pitches and far more friendly staff. Overall we had a nice weekend, but that was more to do with the weather and the company we were with than the site itself. I'm sure this site will continue to be busy because of its location rather than the pitch sizes and unfriendly staff. One thing I have noticed at most CAMC sites is just how unfriendly some of the staff are compared to privately run sites. I'm sure it's because the CAMC staff still receive a wage even when the site is less busy, compared to private sites that survive on customers. Just my opinion.
