Nice site with a picturesque location

Chatsworth site was the last site we visited on a two week tour of Wales and Somerset and we used the two nights we stayed here to break up our drive back to Northumberland. The site is accessed by a single track road and is strictly not accessible prior to 1pm due to the fact that although there are passing points, having Caravan's or Motorhomes passing on this road would be very challenging. We were greeted by a member of staff who showed us the site map and also advised on the pitches that were still available (this is a busy site). The site itself is quite tight and some of the pitches are a little awkward to access, however we had no issue with the hard standing pitch that we had booked which had plenty of space for Caravan, Awning and Car. We have two dogs and were asked to keep these on short leads and to ensure if they were tethered that they also remained on short leads due to the fact there were ducklings on site. The site has a sizeable duck population. This never bothered us, it was nice to see them waddling around the site (we did not feed them as not to encourage them to come begging). The toilet and shower facilities are situated in one block and I had no issues with them, as I expect from a club site they were clean and tidy (and it was a relief to use the showers after spending 4 days on a none CAMC site with awful facilities). There is a secure dog walk on site which is handy for your 4 legged friends and access through a locked gate (you get a key on arrival) to the Chatsworth Estate. If you like walking there is a great walk from the site, through Chatsworth, Edensor village and into Bakewell, although it will take approx 4 hours to complete and the circular route is up hill for most of the way there and back. Nearby the site (towards the main access road), you will find a few pubs and restaurants (Devonshire arms, The Wheatsheaf, The Cavendish Hotel & II Lupo Italian Restaurant). We had an evening meal at II Lupo, food was great so definitely worth a visit. The only complaint I did have was that on our last evening there were young children racing around the site on electric scooters at 11pm, I'm no killjoy but there is a time and place. This was also the time we drove back on site from the restaurant, it was dark, the site has tight roads and blind bends, coupled with the scooters having no lights and being driven very quickly, had I not been extremely careful and vigilant on navigating the site, there could have been an accident. Perhaps this is the parents responsibility to monitor, and the staff to ensure parents are made aware of this. Overall we enjoyed our stay here and will be returning again in the future.

Overpriced and Underwhelming

A couple of member friends said go to Chatsworth Park, you'll love it. Well at the second attempt to book here on preferred dates, we booked a service pitch in early July 24 at an exorbitant £50 plus per night. It ain't worth it. It's a claustrophobic site with too many pitches crammed in, the service pitches are poor, children were speeding around on e scooters at over 15 mph and the off lead dog walk is adequate but could be massively improved with imaginative landscaping. The only block is in need of a refurb too. The biggest negative was the sight of a couple of rats tracking off to an evening BBQ and having our outside bin attacked by crows in the middle of the night. All in all particularly undedifying. From a positive perspective, the staff were lovely, they try hard to keep it clean, the check in was fast and seamless and the mobile catering options are good. We tried the pizza on the Sunday. The gate in the wall to the grounds of Chatsworth itself was beneficial, but the need to keep our energetic fur baby on a lead throughout the Estate was not. The location of the site within the Peak District is second to none due to its proximity to Bakewell. The week before we stayed here at Chatsworth, we stayed at CAMC Clumber Park. It was a superior site in EVERY aspect compared to Chatsworth Park (apart from the WiFi). Perhaps that's why Chatsworth failed to deliver for us.

Week at Chatsworth

Came back for a second visit in 2 years. Saw 2 members of staff on check in who were very pleasant, didn't see staff during our stay. Didn't use shower/toilet block so can't comment. We booked a serviced pitch, the chemical waste is no longer working, drains have collapsed apparently, if you need this facility then I would talk to the site, before arrival. We got £7 knocked from our balance because of this issue. Our biggest problem was the rat infestation. 5.30 6 o'clock every evening the rats would start running around. As soon as people started cooking on barbecues etc, out came the rats, it was disgusting. A couple on an opposite pitch to us fed the ducks constantly thus incouraging the rats. The pitch next to us had their bins raided one night and they also made a nest in the engine of their car. Staff need to put signs up asking campers NOT to feed the ducks, and/or tell people on check-in not to feed the ducks. We were told that staff are not allowed to put humane traps around, just put traps to get rid of the disgusting things!

Premium site

This was our first stop on our week away, the site was lovely although access can be challenging as it's down a narrow lane and you can meet other traffic entering or leaving the site. All the facilities on site are great, the staff are lovely and the location is good offering direct access in to the Chatsworth estate which was lovely. We travelled with 2 dogs and were grateful for the dog exercise area. Access to the local village is via a short and very pleasant walk through the estate grounds, the local village has a Coop, pubs and eateries. Our only disappointment was that despite picking a Super Pitch, it had all the facilities but you end up shading yourself from the sun due to the location of your outfit, so our advice would be to look at the site map and talk to the staff if you want a sunny pitch.

Fab weekend

We booked this for the Chatsworth Horse Trials but sadly cancelled due to the weather, We decided to continue with the booking and so glad we did, the weather ended up being superb and had a great 4 days. Chatsworth grounds are great for walking with some wooded trails and a little farm ( dogs not allowed ) Chatsworth House speaks for itself The site is quite dated and could do with general make over (over £50 a night) however the location is great for Chatsworth House, Baslow, Bakewell. We walked to Bakewell a good 4 miles away and there's regular buses back to either Chatsworth bus stop or Baslow (both appox 10 - 15 mins walk to the site ) the Farm Shop is within walking distance but you do need to walk on the main road into Chatsworth ( approx 5-10 mins on the busy road with a small footpath) Baslow itself is quite small but worth a visit and 3 pubs all very friendly. The main bonus for this site are the wonderful team running it, we have never come across such a fabulous bunch, literally went out of their way to help and so accommodating , they always had a smile and a wave and even when they were off duty they were so helpful, you generally always have one grumpy one but not here, they are an absolute credit to CAMC,,, take note CAMC Thank you to the great team for a wonderful weekend :-)

STOP arriving early, its not a race

Always stay at Chatsworth at the beginning of the year. Couple of things I would like to point out.. NO ARRIVALS BEFORE 1PM - This means DONT arrive before 1pm and not turn up when you feel like it and block the entrance road. On our recent visit we worked out that we would arrive too early so we found a lay-by and parked up for 20 mins. As we sat admiring the view and letting the dog water the grass I watched as motorhome after motorhome, then caravan after caravan thundered past us and I just knew that wacky races had started. We finished our choccy and off we went, drove along the access road at 1.15pm and was 15th, yes 15th in the queue. I feel really sorry for the wardens with the 'I want to be first there first' crowd. I don't want to be the first there by any means but I think that it would be a good idea that if you select your arrival time as 1 - 2pm, once a certain number have selected this option it is then no longer available so that the grid locking of the entrance does not happen. Secondly I think that the CAMC have got a little greedy with the costs to stay at this site, although its in a lovely location it does not warrant the amounts charged in peak season, as the site is now getting rather worn and tired - the toilet block needs a refurb, the trees need cutting back and the entrance road needs repairing due to pot holes and standing water. We really do love this site but might try somewhere else as our starting point to the season.

Superb Site

The Chatsworth Club Site is excellent in every respect. Anyone who has not used this site should not be discouraged by some of the comments in the Reviews. We did have one problem- we chose a site with a grass area to one side, so that we only had another unit to one side of us. We did not expect that this grass area would be used as a dog toilet by dog owners standing looking into our motorhome whilst their dogs "performed"! We also notice that in the recent Reviews the negative comments are about the dirty and selfish habits of some site users; our sympathies are with the Staff in trying to deal with such people.

Overnight Stay

This could be a great site with access to the BIG house. A good walk with the dog. The pizza van was good and the local bakes in the shop were a pleasant suprise. However, this is a medium size park with one toilet block in the centre with no cut throughs. We were in a campervan and the walk to the toilet was a long one. ( useful to know for the obligatory middle of the rainy night walk). The biggest disappointment was that the toilet facilities were grim. There was not enough ventilation for a large toilet- shower block so it was smelly and humid. The sanitary box in the toilet was overflowing. In the morning, someone had had an issue leaving toilet mess across the floor. Fair enough this was probably an accident - but see ventilation comment above I didn't bother with the shower at this site as least time spent in the block the better. I noted a lot of reviews on access to the site and there are notices encouraging people to time their arrivals and departures carefully ( A narrow access road).
