Caravan site perfection

I decided to head out on the Friday in our motorhome without my husband, knowing that I would be greeted with a warm welcome and feel safe and secure.  It's like The Secret Garden opening the door in the wall to walk out to Chatsworth House.   My husband joined me on Saturday and we again enjoyed walking, taking photographs and being able to cycling up to the Farmshop.  Absolutely lovely and a perfectly cared for site

Another great stay

We arrived last Sunday for a last minute three night stay thought we would be the only ones brave enough or daft enough to go in the sleet and freezing weather but there were a few of us waiting but the wardens were still making sure we all got in ok even though they were getting soaking wet and they were still cheerful and had a chat the site was a bit muddy but couldn't be helped it was every were . The wardens kept the showers and toilets warm and clean can't have been easy in the weather we had and the two lots of wardens were friendly and stoped for a chat lovely stay once again.

fantastic site

We have just back from a delightful couple of days at Chatsworth. The site was quite full for mid February. The access gate to grounds is super although very muddy under foot. Facilities great as usual.

Half term busy

Difficult to book this site as so popular so when we got a night available we took it up. Site was busy and felt a bit crowded but the location and your own personal key to the chatsworth parkland is great. Devonshire Arms pub is dog friendly and the service is very good as is the beer!

Gorgeous

This is a lovely site, open in the winter which is great if you can get in! Unfortunately Chatsworth House was not open when we visited the site during the February half term which was a shame. There is still plenty to do in the area and walks are still possible around Chatsworth even though the house and gardens were not open.  The site is well laid out, toilet blocks kept very clean and nice and warm.  There were ducks and pheasants around the site which were only too happy to be fed!  We will definitely return to this site.

Another great stay at a great site

We have had another great stay at Chatsworth. The wardens this year have been very friendly and welcoming. Our Grand-Kids love their sunday visits to us when we stay here, just a pity we never seem to be able to get many weekends (if any)as they are all booked. One of the better kept sites we have visited and look forward to our next visit in September

A special place

We've been here before and it's always lovey to go back. It's always SO hard to book for any w/e so I was delighted to find a 3 night stay suddenly come free last weekend. I booked it immediately (despite it being Friday 13th!) 3 nights was all that was available on the web site but when we checked in we were delighted that we could stay 4 nights - so that was a lovely surprise. The site is all you'd expect from a CC site - immaculately clean, well maintained and well managed. Some friends stayed at Chatsworth last year and enjoyed the location but said the wardens were surly and had spoiled their stay. I was prepared for a gruff check in, but it couldn't have been further from the truth; quite the opposite in fact! I must say that the wardens were the epitome of a warm welcome. They clearly work really well as a team on this site, and every time we saw both male wardens they had a cheery grin and a wave for us. Traffic can be quite a challenge because access to the site is through a single track lane. The depart before 12:00 and arrive after 1:00 rule is in place for good reason at this site! It was tipping it down when we arrived around 1:30 and there was a small queue to check in (3 caravans). The warden was there just at the entrance to the site, standing in the rain but speaking cheerily to each driver with tips about crossing the small bridge onto the site, checking in quickly and choosing a pitch etc. The ladies in the office knew who we were when we walked in because the male warden had checked us in from his queue - it all worked very smoothly and with plenty of friendly banter. The site itself is well laid out, with hard standing level pitches which are pretty spacious, though when the site is full it can feel busy. It was still dead quiet after about 10pm so you could hear the pheasants and owls. Finally, we enjoyed a lovely dinner on Friday 13th at "Charlie's" in Baslow, which is 5 minutes drive or 15 minutes walk from the site. We also visited Buxton on Saturday and enjoyed lunch at a café/bistro called 53 "Degrees North" This place has only opened in April last year and it's well worth a visit. Hope you find all this useful!

Great site next door to Chatsworth

This a really busy but well run site. Struggled to find a pitch in the dark but got settled in soon after. As usual the toilet block is pristine, modern and facilities are always available, despite the site being full. Literally next door to the Chatsworth estate, perfect for walking and visiting the house and gardens - but only the grounds and shops are open January to March. The pitches tend to overlook each other being positioned around the meandering road, and there isn't much grass around them. The track to the site is unlit and half a mile to Baslow, but we managed to get to a super pub for dinner - the Devonshire arms, which is 10 mins walk after turning right out of the site entrance. I booked a table online before arriving. Apart from Chatsworth, there are a couple of villages worth visiting, Pilsley has a nice pub ( another Devonshire Arms!!) and the Chatsworth farm shop and restaurant can be found here too. A great weekend, great site, but so popular you have to book well in advance for a weekend away here
