Visited this site many times over the years, it’s situation in the walked garden is wonderful a small door in he wall allows access to the Chatsworth estate. Τhere is a modern facilities block which has laundry, and dishwashing area. There is also a dog wash on site, which unfortunately had a massive leak in the hose which rather than spraying from the shower head actually resulted in soaking me
This pitches are in dire need of some attention, With the exception of the service pitches, the hardstsndings require some serious maintenance, the vast majority are so muddy, they need to be excaved and re gravelled.
For a flagship site charging flagship prices, this is not up to standard.
As usual this site never disappoints. On top of a fabulous location, beautiful countryside and not a bad pub a short walk away, the wardens are at the top of their game, the site is immaculate and the fellow caravannars present for Halloween were spooktacular!
We’ve just got back from another great stay, we love that you get your own key to the special gate to go into the grounds of Chatsworth, the only slight problem we had with the key (pitch 14), was that we had a problem unlocking the door from the the side of the estate grounds, we had no problem unlocking/locking from the site side of the gate or locking from the Estate ground side, hubby told one of the wardens about the problem with the key & was told you need to put the key in gentle & lift the key to which we did but still had a problem unlocking from the estate side of the gate, for the first few days we were with another couple who also stayed on site in their caravan even they had trouble opening the gate with our key, but when using their own key there was no problem unlocking, this is the first time we have had an issue with the key, all the other times we have stayed we have never had this problem, maybe it needs looking into, would be interesting to know whether anybody else has ever had the same issue with the key for pitch 14, other than the issue with the key a fantastic time was had.
We have just returned from a long weekend, the site management are very professional, the weather was terrible but we just got on with enjoying ourselves.just one thing to mention you cannot get a discount for being a Caravan Club member when buying tickets for Chatsworth House or Gardens. Hope to return soon. Motorhomer from Lincolnshire.
Had 2 nights at this site in October. We were anxious about the approach having read of the single track for over half a mile; however the 12pm depart and arrivals after 1pm works perfectly. The site is amongst glades / trees with few pitches in the open. This does make some areas very dark even at the height of the day. Pitches are tightly packed in.
Toilet facilities were very clean, although the shower water temperature in the ladies can be a bit hit and miss.
Motor home service point is awkwardly situated and takes a bit of manouvering depending on your outlets/inlets.
There is an adequate secure dog walk, but we were advised upon arrival that dogs are no longer allowed off lead in this area due to an incident the previous week - so there is nowhere to allow your pet any freedom.
The site is generally quiet but at night the rutting deer can be heard howling.
There is a direct pedestrian access into Chatsworth park through a keyed gate. The main house is approx half a mile. In opposite direction is Baslow village with 3 pubs, tea room and bus stops in each direction. Bakewell town is £4.25 return each and a lovely small town - well worth a visit.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Chatsworth site. Very busy but super pitches are great and the location near to the house and Bakewell is excellent. The facilities are very good and staff helpful. We would definitely return.
We have visited the Chatsworth site 3 times now and it never fails to impress. It is however quite a long walk from pubs, restaurants and shops in Baslow, along an unlit access road. Fine during the day but really a drive at night, not ideal if you are in a motorhome without a spare car.
The only negative I have is closing the mens shower block at 10am for cleaning. Its just too early, i went out for a morning run to find the place closed, most sites seem to start cleaning a little later, say 1030, particularly as members cannot arrive on site until 1pm due to access issues.
Waking up to such a loud dawn chorus is invigorating. Lovely to see the ducks and pheasants in abundance around the site. Well groomed site offering long walks on the Chatsworth estate. The toilet blocks are extremely clean with service facilities close to all pitches.
The Wardens have made us very welcome and share their knowledge of the area freely. Will be back for the Christmas fair, site availability pending.
Thanks to the Wardens for making our stay enjoyable.
Arrived late due to Storm Ali, Fantastic Greeting and superb advice and directions given, Once we were all hooked up, we walked around the site and the facilities where/are spotless a credit to all that work their.
The dogs enjoyed several walks, and the weather did not dampen our spirits, would recommend this site as 5 stars
Will be coming back to this site again for a longer stay next year
Many thanks to all the staff, and keep up the good work.
Alex,Irene and the two Westies
Lovely site beautiful surroundings always love coming here maybe a small complaint we thought the dog shower was a great idea but now we can’t use it somebody decided to screw the hose into the top wood with a clip so can’t move the hose down to wash our dog 🐕 is it a joke we just manage to spray ourselves so didn’t even try to use it again don’t you want us to use it? Lovely clean site with hard working wardens also a mention about the camper van driver who shouted as we were hitching the caravan to the car for leaving will you be long when he had just pulled up and we don’t mess about but also you don’t need some idiot putting pressure on you I was so angry with him rant over never happened before and I suppose you always get one.
