One of my favourite sites

A weekend visit on a pitch not under the trees was a success! Fantastic walks. Very friendly, helpful staff. Only downside is the dog shower. The hose just isn’t long enough and you struggle to wash your dog without wasting water and getting soaked yourself. Hopefully this will be sorted in the refurb.

Enjoyed our stay

We have been a few times to this site and always enjoy our stay. We love the walks in all directions, Baslow, Edensor, Stand Wood and along the river to Chatsworth. We got a close up of the deer when they visited the cricket pitch. We enjoyed being in the shade of the trees when it was so warm in the open. Our older dog appreciated the shade too and the walks. It is a friendly and clean site. Handy bus into Bakewell for a few hours retail therapy. We were able to extend our stay at Chatsworth which was great. It is so popular it can be hard to book the required number of nights in advance. There were ducklings and a friendly pheasant to visit the van every day. We think we heard a Little Owl at night but not sure. Would definitely visit again.

Just OK

Bought into all the hype for this site. Great if you want to visit Chatsworth. The secret door is lovely. BUT. Crammed onto a relatively small site. Serviced sites too close to the kids play area, Good for the house but wouldn’t rush back.

It's in the countryside!

One of my measures of the tranquility of a site is how much road noise can be heard at night. Chatsworth scored full marks. Even during the day, traffic noise was only discernible by the odd motor bike going past on the main road on the way in search of an accident. At night there was silence. Yes, there are trees AND birds too, it's in the countryside, and yes some pitches get only minimal sunshine during the day. But this last week, the shade during the day on pitch 116 suited me well, as did the shade onto pitches 115 and 114 according to the inhabitants there. Some trees are in need of surgery, but I am led to understand that there are a number which are protected by preservation orders; and I imagine too, that the " the Neighbours next door " may have some say over the amount of arboreal activity which is permitted? It is however testament to the overall care invested in the site that such restrictions are in place and observed. I commented on just how FEW dogs were there last week; compared to some other club sites, there was a significant diminution in numbers of dogs observed. I'm not a dog owner although I'm a dog lover, but I have been to sites where the pitches have been overrun by dogs. Still don't understand why CMC doesn't make a separate charge for them? There must be additional costs in maintaining dog walks? Only beef about this stunning CMC site is the single track approach road; at busy times it's a nightmare for all, and tolerance is the order of the day. I understand that widening may not be a viable option; is it beyond the wit of man to come up with a compromise? Staggered arrival times, say 1 pm for all members whose surname begins with A,C,E,G etc and say 2.30 for any member whose surname begins with B,D,F,H etc? Not ideal - but neither is a queue caused by the simultaneous arrival of more than 30 vans on a single track road. The wardens do their best, and do it with a smile which should always be reciprocated - but there MUST be a better way? Cracking site - and the fact that it's SO difficult to book a pitch says something doesn't it?

In the shade again

Just spent a weekend at this lovey Site. Can’t believe we got in as always booked up !! This is the 2 nd time we have arrived on a Thursday and ended up in the shade under the trees. Will not do this again ; best to go on a Friday. The trees really need cutting back, our Caravan and car were disgusting with dirt and sap off the trees. Not great for light sleepers as the crows and wood pigeons start squawking as soon as it’s light. The dog shower head is worn out. Water shoots out everywhere, I got drenched . Now for the positive: Very clean friendly Site, nice showers, Great Location in Chatsworth Park, lovely walk to Edensor where there is a lovely Tea room. Walked into Baslow, Devonshire Arms is a very dog friendly pub with great food and staff. The Wheatsheaf is not dog friendly but you can walk through the pub to the beer garden. Will definitely try to book again but will not stay if we end up under a tree .

Time to trim back

This is a fantastic site in a great location with excellent staff but please please please cut back some trees! The sap that lands on cars and units is ridiculous plus everyone does not want shade most of the day

Lovely stay,

This was our 3rd or 4th stay here and the first time we have managed to stay a full week due to booking early, a must if you want a weekend. As usual the site was spotless, wardens friendly, and general atmosphere lovely. We parked up initially in too much shade so asked the wardens if we could move pitch which we did, which gave us a bit more sun. The back of the site does get more shade due to the trees. There were lots of dogs on site, possibly due to the dog show in Bakewell. We travel with 2 cats and I must say the majority of the dog owners were very considerate (on this trip) when I was out walking my boy, he made lots of friends and admirers. However on a previous visit there were folks who obviously didn't understand the Dogs on leads rule, especially after office hours when the wardens are not around. There was lots of friendly chatter but nothing kept us awake at night. There are lovely walks and cycle rides in the area as well as the house and grounds to see. Facilities as usual were spotless. Pitches level. A bit difficult to get to the motorhome service area on leaving without driving round the whole site but not insurmountable. We will be back. Many thanks to the site staff, keep up the good work

Spoiled by dogs and loud voices

Beautiful site and location. Wonderful weather. Helpful, cheerful, wardens. Pity about the huge number of yappy dogs seemingly out of the control of their owners. There were also noisy radios such, that taken together with the yappy dogs, we had (for the first time ever in 30 years’ membership) to move to a different pitch midway through our stay. We then found ourselves at the mercy of even more intrusion by way of more noisy dogs and someone with a very loud voice obviously managing his business and taking and making calls every few minutes. This simply is not good enough and the club needs to be much more proactive in ensuring that those of us who want a peaceful and restful holiday get just that.

Dog wash :-)

We have stayed here on previous occasions and it is still beautiful. The wardens were polite, site and facilities spotless. Location ideal for Chatsworth house. It was very peaceful. But the best bit was the DOG WASH not having seen one on a site before, what a brilliant idea especially if like us you have a mud loving springer.

Lovely site but lots of shady pitches

A lovely site and perfect location for Chatsworth and beautiful surrounding area. The facilities are excellent as expected on a Caravan Club site. However the play area for children is poor and desperately needs upgrading. Many of the pitches are in the shade because of the trees and yes we had sap all over our van as someone has said previously. The Wi-Fi is also poor and I think the Caravan Club is the only organisation that I have had to pay for Wi-Fi in the last twelve months. You have to keep logging on every ten minutes as it logs you out and we were unable to both log on our phones at the same time. Poor if you have business to conduct whilst away and very frustrating.
