Fabulous campsite

Had a lovely few days on this campsite. We found it spacious, very well looked after and peaceful. The wardens were lovely and friendly and helpful. Only the toilets were open, no showers but this didn’t cause a problem as we had our own facilities. A decent dog walking area too. We don’t use the motorhome for getting about so the bus stop at the entrance of the site was really handy. We used it to get to Scarborough and Filey (cost approximately £3.50 for a single ticket). A short walk to Cayton Bay beach and the coastal path (Cleveland Way). We walked one day to Scarborough there and back and it was a lovely walk. Then walked to Filey, about 5 miles but caught the bus back. We enjoyed the fish and chips from the chippy in Cayton village. Handy couple of small shops too. We will be using this site again.

Will be back

Stopped on-site from 5th till 12th Oct and on arrival, it is a bit of a shock which should have been rectified by now hopefully? This site could be one of the best it caters for every type of self-catering holiday! We had a service pitch booked and were advised by the warden to park at the bottom of the road and check the available pitches, well the first pitch was next to the CDP/Service area, so we drove past up to a pitch near the "new" road. Wi-Fi on site was better than some we have used but could still be better (ask the Spanish how they do it). The things that upset us was the state that some people leave the toilets (pan) in god knows what there home ones are like? Members shouldn't expect the wardens to clean up after them, there is a brush use it. Then what could be the bigger problem if you go to the facilities block and leave your rubber band on one of the numbered hooks, you expect it to still be on the same number when you come out but no it's jumped to another so you have to sanitise it before you can use it again. Rant over the Farrier pub in the village is good for Sunday lunch not cheap but good. Anyone travelling to Scarborough or Brid then the bus stop is just outside the site. Steve & Joyce

First visit

Arrived as requested after 12 and went to find our service pitch unfortunately there was a late leaver blocking the single track road and obviously had not read he had to be off for 11. Not a good start we had words and nearly damaged caravans. Why didn’t wardens ensure vans leave on time before sending up to find a pitch? Two way system didn’t work on service pitches several times road was difficult to negotiate and one late arrival 7.40pm drove to the top and had to reverse all the way back in the dark. Will be better when centre access road is opened up. Otherwise our stay was enjoyable new toilet block was spotless. Will return when fully open looks like this will be a popular site when finished.

We knew about the renovations and were not disappointed as the facilities are excellent.

We booked in the full knowledge that the site was being rebuilt and only opening mid-September (we had watched the video as recommended on the club website). Notwithstanding the building work continuing on the neighbouring field and the bare earth areas between the pitches where the grass has yet to grow, the new common facilities were immaculately clean and the Covid-19 arrangements well managed. The pitches are spaciously laid out and the services plentiful and functioning well. The management were responsive, hard working and helpful under what must be, for them, difficult circumstances. We wish them every success.

A Really nice surprise and super-pitches too

We booked this site last minute, when it suddenly showed up as available for our short stay in October. We were well aware that it is a work in progress, and were delighted to be able to book. We were on the section that is entirely fully serviced. This is something that we always look for, and can sometimes take some finding among Caravan and Motorhome Club sites. It was easy to find using the SatNav, but better signage would be appreciated. When we arrived, the wardens could not have been more friendly and helpful, and we soon chose our pitch and settled in. The pitch did slope a little from side to side, and I had forgotten the levelling blocks, but it wasn't too much of an issue for us. Some pitches did, we noticed, slope quite badly and will need attention. They were, however large enough for a big caravan, awning and car. The services were well-maintained, and in good working order, although some of the waste water drains were a little overgrown. I understand that this site is due for refurbishment this winter. We found the toilets very clean and warm, but we didn't use any of the other facilities. The only issue was the lack of privacy and openness of the site. We were quite disappointed to see that many of the existing trees and bushes were being cut down, and can only hope that a planting scheme will be embarked on to provide a little more shelter. Security is a big thing these days, and we were delighted that the barrier and entry cards worked so well. This site is very handy for Scarborough and Filey, and is in a good location for the moors and coast. As it hardly stopped raining, we did not explore the area on foot, but for all that, we very much enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning, hopefully in better weather.

Great site

Had. Weekend here in September. Great location with 3buses an hour into Scarborough. The other way buses to Bridlington. 20 mind walk to Dayton bay. Yes the facilities are dated , but they were spotlessly clean, credit to the wardens. We will definitely return again after the refurb think this will be a really popular site.

A great site

We arrived yesterday, there were only a small number of pitches available but the one we chose is good. I took our dog for a walk around both the dog walks which are excellent, I wish they had these on all of the sites. We got all set up with our awning on a grass pitch, no problems. It is very nice here and a good site. Today we had our showers, yes the water only lasts 5 seconds but I just leant my back on the water knob as I needed to wash my hair. No problem. I placed my toiletry bottles on the window ledge and also found the width of the seat suitable. I think some people moan unnecessarily, having read read the previous reviews. We had a walk to the village today and saw all the shops and the pubs. It’s very nice here and we will return in future, looking forwards to seeing the improvements to come.

Lovely site, Ideal location for visting East Yorkshire

Our recent visit to Cayton Village site was very pleasant, friendly, helpfull staff fully committed to the upkeep of the site even with the future refurbishment in the pipeline for next year, look forward to visting again next year and seeing all the proposed improvements. Ideal for getting about, bus stop outside the gate with regular buses up and down the coast, short walk to the beach and access to the " Cleveland Way "( path might be a bit steep for some people ) small village within walking distance with 2 different pubs, church, chipshop, local post office/shops and tea rooms. Enjoyed our stay there again.

Will be back when refurbished

We enjoyed the site it is in a fantastic position for visiting all the resorts of Filey , Scarbrough and Whitby . Cayton Bay is fantastic and only a few minutes drive in the car . The village is a few minutes walk away with a couple of shops a dog friendly pub and a fantastic fish shop . . The only bugbear were the actual pitches which are very small and close together , the pitch we were on could not accommodate our car at the side of the caravan , it had to be parked in front of the A frame , meaning neighbours were too close with no privacy . Yes the showers need a refurb and having to keep pressing for the water supply is not ideal but they were clean and the toilets were spotless. We will certainly go again once refurbed ,

Good Site

We were nearly put off going by the bad reviews. We found the site very good. Yes some hard standing pitches had some weeds but most were fine, high proportion of serviced pitches, , toilets/showers clean, grass cut, bins collected and staff helpful. Also well served by buses and easy walking distance to Cayton village with pub and shop. We will definately be returning,
