Fantastic site

Stayed at this site with my family although due to a very unfortunate incident I was hospitalised during our stay so didn't make full use if the facilities for the week. However my partner and baby stayed on for longer than we had booked and the site office were more than helpful in accommodating this for us. We are new to caravanning and the staff offered to help my partner with anything she needed it was a perfect service given the unfortunate circumstances. They were also very accommodating in letting us keep the van on site whilst I made arrangements to get it home. I would reccomend this site to anyone and am sure we will be back to enjoy a longer stay next time. I cant thank you enough for your support.

Good site marred by unreasonable warden and his deputy

We thought this was a great site. The toilets were clean and tidy and it is in a good location with Cayton village only a five minute walk away where you have two pubs, a shop, post office etc. Also there is a bus stop right outside the site entrance which takes you into Scarborough which is very useful. Unfortunately we had an unpleasant experience with the warden and his deputy. On arrival we chose a grass pitch because it was a large grassy area and we liked the location. I saw the marker and thought straight away that it looked too close to the nearest occupied pitch, so I took the decision to reverse beyond the marker leaving my front offside corner next to the marker rather than the our rear offside corner. This meant that we were further away from the nearest unit and therefore adhering to the 6m rule. There was still loads of room to the rear of our van. On our second morning the warden came over and said that we were not parked correctly because our rear offside corner was not next to the marker. Obviously I explained why I had done this and that if we moved the van (and large awning) forward we would in fact be closer to the next unit and would therefore be creating a safety issue. He was having none of it and insisted that we move the camper and the awning for by 5 meters. This was a massive inconvenience to us because we had the awning all set up correctly and fully loaded with all out things including an inner bedroom for our two girls. Despite it being blatantly obvious that if we did move forward that we would be closer to next door he was still adamant that we move and if we didn't then we would be asked to leave the site. So in the blistering heat we moved all our stuff taking 90 minutes in total. We were soaked with sweat as it was about 30+C degrees at the time. This was totally unnecessary and pointless and we both felt that they were just being extremely awkward and unreasonable. The grass area was enormous and he could have simply just moved the pitch marker to the rear of our van and that would of made us totally compliant with the rules. When we returned from our lovely day at the beach our neighbors had gone and I noticed that the warden had removed the pitch marker from the next door pitch which just went to prove that were correct because if someone had pitched there they would have been too close to us. I don't know why they had taken a dislike to us but we certainly felt that were had been victimized. A real shame because other than that we had a great time at this site.

Lovely welcome

As others have said the facilities are ready for upgrading, but the warmth and welcome more than made up for this. This is our second visit, we first visited just before it closed for winter last year. We found a lovely pitch where we knew our dogs would not bother people. We have a car as well as MH, mobility problems, and found this site great for getting to Scarborough, Filey, Bridlington etc. The only thing about this site that puts us off is the price. It is more expensive than others with comparable facilities. If it were cheaper we would visit more often. I hope the upgrades planned do not price it out of many people’s budget.

A pleasant surprise.

I recently stayed at the Cayton site for three nights during the half term break along with my 14 year old son. I was not sure what to expect after reading the mixed reviews. My feelings about the site are as follows and to be honest I was pleasantly surprised and I felt that I had a nicer experience than at other sites. Yes, the site facilities do need a degree of upgrading but in their present state they are still much better than a lot of other sites. The previous weekend I had stayed at a privately run touring caravan park in North Wales and it most certainly need an upgrade....it was grim. Maybe some members should have an occasional reality check to see what other facilities are like. As I have said, I really liked and enjoyed our stay. The pitch that we had was delightful. It was quiet, private and just generally a nice place to be. The trees and hedges around the site add to the pleasant feel. The showers etc are not as bad as some make out. Yes, they may have 1990’s tiles but they were spotless and worked efficiently. I seen nothing wrong with them personally and if a push button shower button upsets you, then maybe caravanning is not for you. The staff on the site were lovely. Possibly the friendliest that I have come across. I had a long conversation with one of the staff members and was told about the upcoming improvements. My big dread would be that the site is changed and ‘so called improved’ and end up like the Tewkesbury site which had been, in my opinion, absolutely ruined. Tewkesbury was once a nice site but now feels like a council run caravan storage facility. Hopefully this will not have to the Cayton site and the endearing characteristics of the site are allowed to maintain. Yes, improve the taps and toilets but please don’t overdo the decimation of the natural features of the site and have kerbs and tarmac everywhere. I hope to make many return visits if the site is not ruined by modernisation.

Bank holiday..May 2019

We initially booked in on "super pitch" for 3 nights and later booked an extra night. The site was very nice although the facilities were less than usual for a MCC site. We knew that as MCC website tells you so. Staff were friendly. One gripe is that toilets/shower closed for cleaning at 9.45 which is too early. One of the bad habits which must be in the MCC staff manual is that timings of closures, shop openings etc are are for benefit of staff NOT customers. Bonus of easy bus connections to Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington (bus stop at gate) Pitch prices were bit high but seemed fair for bank holiday weekend. It think after MCC upgrade it will be a star in their heavens !! As long as prices don't go astronomical too! Motorhomers from Cumbria

Great site and will be even better in 2020

This is a big site by Caravan Club standards. We stayed in the Laurels section and had a super pitch. A bit more expensive than average but a nice pitch with all facilities nearby so worth the extra for us. Wi-Fi included but fairly slow. Site upgrade planned for late 2019 so I'd expect it to be even better in 2020. We tried a few local pubs / restaurant while we were here. Star Inn is a fairly run of the mill pub. Didn't eat there and left after one drink. The Farrier is a class apart. Beautiful decor and furnishings with excellent food and good service. As they saying goes - you get what you pay for.

Another Gem of a site, so glad we live near.

We are currently on the newly acquired club site at Cayton Bay, on the East coast of Yorkshire. This will be a cracking site when they update and upgrade it. But it’s lovely as it is to be honest and wouldn’t hesitate in coming back even before the site is updated. The wardens are lovely helpful people, they operate a small shop for the odd items you may need, the site is literally about two hundred yards from the town where there are local dog friendly pubs chip shop and a few small general shops. A superstore outlet is about 2 miles away where there’s a Morrison’s and McDonald’s etc. There’s two secure dog walks around the site, the pitches are of various sizes and are mostly separated by small hedges and shrubs etc at the moment a lot have their own water outlet, ehh and drain, the beach is a 20/30 minute walk away and is dog friendly. There’s a bus stop outside the site with a service along the coastal area every thirty minutes. If everybody keeps their speed down to 5mph on the site the road dust is not a problem however the site will be having new tarmac roads when updated. The shower and toilet blocks which I think there are three are spotlessly clean and quite acceptable. Hope this is of use if your hesitant about this site, don’t be its lovely, as far as it being (evidently) over priced, with the club sites you know you are booking on a site that has to meet certain criteria etc although a little give and take should be applied until the refit, simples.😊

Enjoyed our stay.

Chose this site because it was on the route of the Tour de Yorkshire. We had read the reviews but still booked. We knew the toilet blocks needed a refit and we knew it was a bit expensive but we have no regrets. It's a nice area and we enjoyed our stay. Well done to the friendly wardens who do everything under their control to keep the site running smoothly. Now if only those using the site could understand that the speed limit is 5mph!

Ideal location

Great location and peaceful site, great pub the farrier short walk away. Downside is toilet blocks are not the best also road around site very dusty, hopefully something that will be changed in the redevelopment of the site. Wardens not as attentive as other sites with bins overflowing on more than one occasion.
